INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO HANNAH MORTON

HANNAH MORTON INTERIOR DESIGN

PROFILE I am currently a level 6 student at The University of Salford in my third year of studying Interior Design. This has always been something I have wanted to do from watching programs such as Grand Design and George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. Other inspirations stem from Frank Gehry’s and his passion for giving building life through the theme of movement. Through recent projects, I have realised I am passionate about creating designs which can improve health and well-being and the importance of sustainable design.

Urban Nu My most recent experience in the interior design industry was at Urban Nu. Here I worked on designs from the initial concept development to the creation of visuals for design in the hospitality sector, these were mainly cafés. Furthermore, during my time here I also had the experience of presenting a design to the clients and working in a team for the design development. To develop these designs we used software such as AutoCAD, Sketchup and InDesign.

Den Living During my experience at Den Living, I worked alongside designers from Brierly and Bennet Interiors. The main sector of work was residential. We worked closely with different fabrics and textures to create a layered design. In addition to this, I also took part In the site survey’s and attended client meetings.

Axonometric Section

Multi-faceted feature wall and gallery display.

This design modifies the downstairs space even further, with the intention to create a new destination to attract a younger target audience. The design also aims to show a clear flow throughout the space, with a clear definition as to the uses of each space.

Axonometric Section Cafe servery

The concept of biomimicry has been used to create a free-flowing form acting as a feature wall. This shape was created with multiples of the same diamond-like shape. The concept of biomimicry is applied throughout the whole design as the form represents growth and mimics the division of cells, this process is called mitosis. The use of natural forms and symmetry is aesthetically pleasing to the brain and allows the users to take in the space with ease. Using nature as the inspiration also links to the surrounding Peel Park as a take on bringing nature into the building.

Specialist Studies A Co-working Space

Visual 1

Variety of seating for hot-desking

This project was to design a co-working space based in the Mark Addy building in Manchester. The building was built in the 80s, I used this to my advantage and collected some research and imagery of what Manchester was like in the 80s. This is where my main design inspiration came from as is what is at the core of my design. This design is a quirky space, designed around the easy of use for workers. There are different areas in this workspace from a break and relax zones, to meeting rooms and work areas. All aspects of the design allow workers to interact with each other, however still provides privacy when needed.

Box Office Competition

New Adelphi Buidling, Salford University

The design brief was to create a moveable box office for the theatre in the New Adelphi building at Salford University. For this, I began by basing my design on the playfulness of the theatre. These are shown in my design by the movable angled desk which can be placed in many different positions. Furthermore, my design features blackboard on each side of the blackboard where students can add to the aesthetics as this is an Art’s and Media-based building. This project was run as a live brief and competition, judges included, architect’s, the users or the box office and managers of the upkeep of the building. My design was selected as one of the final designs for the Box Office.

John Lewis Installation

This was a Hypothetical brief to create an installation for John Lewis which could also be used to display products. For my design, I focused on the lighting section, therefore, my design represents an enlarged light shade. Inside this structure, there can be lighting displayed that customers can walk through. In addition to this, there are perforated plywood panels which light can shine through. This is also a flexible design which can be moved into many different positions as shown on the left.

Generation Z Hotel Suite This brief was focused around user centred design, particularly for generation Z. This means we had to consider ease of use and what the user would need. For my design, the theme was home comforts and more. This included; bedroom space, effective storage, a “den under the sleeping area to add an aspect of fun to the room. In addition to this, there were multiple access sources for technology such as wireless charging points and resources for vloggers and bloggers to view their vlogs on the Tv and office section.
