Developed models and presentation drawings for various projects including the Swissness Applied exhibition now on international tour.

Created models, drawings, and design iterations for winning competition entries. Prepared and uninstalled an installation for the Arch League Beaux Arts Ball 2019.

Partnered with founders on projects including: the design of an office interior, a large model for a neighborhood meeting, client relations, translating project text, photographing finished projects, and testing ideas through models and drawing.

Produced models and diagrams and translated poetic project text from Spanish to English.

Led, taught, and critiqued a section of twenty first-year students together with a graduate teaching assistant in manual drawing skills (Fall) and digital drawing skills (Spring) in a studio setting and in the field.

Truth Games: Naturalizing the Neoliberal Subject

Truth Games Naturalizing the Neoliberal Subject 1 This thesis analyzes Neoliberalism, and architecture as its active agent, not only in constructing space, but constructing subjectivity within that space. If Neoliberalism exists in two forms, policy and ideology, I contend that architecture serves as a mediator between these forms: shaped by policy and naturalizing ideology. Truth Games – constructed “truths” which embed themselves in common knowledge and practice – allow the city to appear as banal and incidental, maybe even nice. However, the urban environment is a powerful weapon. The Truth Games embedded in architecture legitimate forms of power that operate on and through the constitution of the self (as per Foucault). This thesis operates upon the hypothesis that the city can be read, delaminated, unmasked, in order to script its Truth Games and therein begin to subvert them. 2 The array of Neoliberal policies manifest particular environments which aggressively naturalize Neoliberal subjectivity. I collect these spaces under the term, Capital Imaginaries, as they take on a utopian image of the city according to the market. It is within these islands of raw and exaggerated capital that Truth Games, typically obscured, sit in the foreground and begin to expose themselves. 7

3 The Capital Imaginaries of Kop van Zuid (Rotterdam), Canary Wharf (London), and Hudson Yards (New York) become the subjects of this examination, each revealing one aspect of the market’s ideal subject. The thesis works to uncover their truths hidden in plain sight, through the mechanisms of timelines, voyeuristic films, financial diagramming, and mappings of subjectivity. This unmasking of the city led me back to the 1970s ideas of radical architecture: Superstudio, Archizoom, and OMA. I took ‘the manifesto’ as an operation, and revised Archizoom’s – by extension revising the images they use to explore their ideas and reediting them in relation to my three subjects. These ideas are collected in a digital exhibition, providing multiple paths that take one through layers of information on the same issue. This website architecture is akin to the layering and unmasking that the project aims to do, and constructs a truth within itself. 4 The exhibition is a call to see. To criticize. To reexamine the banal. The city is not incidental. It is deliberately constructed.

Precarious Equilibrium

Precarious Equilibrium Learning from the (In)stability of the Gymnast 1 This project looks to the physics and values of gymnastics to pursue a low-resolution/high-performance project. The spectacle of gymnastics is predicated on the seeming impossibility of its feats. The massing pursues the question: how can a composition be created which is structurally sound, but looks in danger of tipping over? 2 In the development of this project, there was serious rigor required to preserve the legibility of the simple volumes. Through the detailing process, the ‘dumb’ diagram begins to resolve as a highly complex architecture. 3 King + King Prize winning Comprehensive Design Studio project. 4 Project in collaboration with Tanvi Marina Rao, all work collaborative unless otherwise noted.

Other Landscapes

Other Landscapes Meticulous Mapping in Pursuit of the Other 1 Exploiting traditional cartographic language and technique, each of the 2 x 2 m drawing’s layers explores the potentials of a particular mapmaking strategy. Using an aerial photograph by Alex MacLean for initial reference, the drawing was built up in layers and slowly departs from the reality of the initial photograph. The resultant landscape is not a reproduction nor representation of the MacLean photograph, but rather a new landscape in and of itself. The six layers accumulate to create a 1:1 representation of an “other” landscape. 2 After the drawing was complete, it was reimagined as a three-dimensional space. This space became the mold for vacuum forming techniques. The experimental models continue to push the potential “otherness” of the represented landscape.

Lloyd’s

Lloyd’s Questioning Definitions of Ruin and Craft 1 During the international studio in London, our semester revolved around ‘ruin’ and ‘craft’. The definitions of these themes were pushed and pulled as the iconic Lloyd’s of London was taken through the construction of a 1:50 hand-cut model, an interpretation of that model as ruin, a design intervention within that ruin, and a final remodeling of that intervention. 2 The work of the studio was finally collected and organized by the students in an exhibition. 3 As most of the projects were done in large groups, this body of work is the result of learning to work together, time management, and leadership, bringing the team towards a single design goal.
