continued from front page Their small but mighty staff of 18 serves nearly 200,000 visitors a year, hosts meetings and programs for more than 50,000 attendees, manages the accounts of 36,000 registered borrowers, oversees a collection of 101,000 items, and answers nearly 10,000 questions a year. Guthrie Memorial Library is a safe and welcome learning and gathering space for all citizens of Hanover and its environs, regardless of socioeconomic background, race, ethnicity or creed. The library is committed to creating ongoing programming and services that are accessible to patrons in every circumstance and meet the needs of our children and students of every age. Award sponsor Fred Artman, Vice President of Northwest Bank, presented the Entrepreneur of the Year award to Rich Moorhead, owner of Art of Board The Entrepreneur of the Year is awarded to a member of the Hanover Chamber whose business has been locally established for at least two years. The nominee’s business must be reputable, visible and show the effects of entrepreneurial skill in exemplary management and growth, and the nominee must be the individual responsible for the reputation that distinguishes the business among its competitors. Rich Moorhead originally planned to open a skateboard shop in Hanover, but had difficulty finding a commercial space that would accept his business. After finding inspiration from a pile of broken skateboard decks in his garage, Rich used his background in carpentry to piece together tile-like segments of the boards to create a mosaic. While still working his day job in commercial sales, Rich continued operations and slowly built Art of Board from the ground up. His work is now featured at a variety of businesses nationwide including California Pizza Kitchen, Monster Energy, Red Bull, Google, Los Angeles International Airport, and more. Locally, his work can be found at Hanover High School and Miscreation Brewing Company.

Small Business of the Year, Hanover Land Services

Through his work, Rich has saved more than 50,000 skateboard decks from landfills. He turns trash into treasure, while supporting the dreams of younger generations. His entrepreneurial spirit is one that we are proud to have in Hanover. Finally, Kevin Gulden, Plant Manager of Utz Quality Foods, presented the Small Business of the Year award to Hanover Land Services on behalf of Penn National Insurance. Small businesses, classified as those with no more than 40 fulltime employees, play a crucial part in the economy and welfare of the Hanover community. The Small Business of the Year is awarded to the business that best exemplifies sound principles of business success, personnel management, and community leadership and service. Hanover Land Services (HLS) is a Civil Engineering, Land Planning, and Surveying Consulting firm owned and operated by Kristin and Doug Barmoy. HLS is a Pennsylvania and Maryland Department of Transportation certified, woman-owned and disadvantaged business, and their staff includes licensed engineers and surveyors. HLS prides themselves in helping both private and government clients increase the value of their property. Some notable local projects include the survey and engineering design for Sheetz in South Hanover, Gold’s Gym, the Cherry Tree subdivision, and the Hanover library sites. HLS has many repeat and long-term clients, which is a testament to their reliability and quality of service. Their staff is always willing to rearrange their schedules to meet the needs of clients whenever possible. The Hanover Chamber would like to thank event sponsors, APPI Energy and Doceo, and award sponsors: Penn National Insurance, WellSpan Health, Northwest Bank, and KLK School of Welding and Theory. We would also like to thank Remembrances by Kevin Photography for taking photos for us during this event. We sincerely appreciate your time and effort.

Entreprenuer of the Year, Rich Moorhead of Art of Board

Workforce Spotlight Grace Dickmyer is a senior at South Western High School. She is currently enrolled in our group apprenticeship program and is the youngest female from South Western to get a D.1.1. Welding Certification. “I’ve worked with my hands and in mechanics all my life, but I never thought it would allow me to find a career I love," says Grace. "This program has given me more opportunities than a college would have and has rounded me as an individual, making me a more outgoing and confident person.” Ken Kirkpatrick of KLK School of Welding continues to be impressed by Grace and her passion for her studies, "Grace is a phenomenal individual with a lot of talent." Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC Announces Rebrand to SEK SEK has launched a new logo as a part of their brand identity. This logo is born out of the need to better communicate what the firm stands for. The compass represents directional values; the firm remains committed to guiding their clients to make wise and wellinformed financial decisions. Through the compass, SEK’s pledge to provide clarity and peace of mind is clearly demonstrated. The guidance offered will continue to be precise, just like its sharp points.

Regional CPA firm Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC is refreshing its branding. Over the years, the firm’s clients and communities have come to refer to them as the acronym “SEK,” and the firm is proud to incorporate that title into a sleek, new brand redesign. SEK remains the same company and team with a new, bolder presence.

The company’s rebrand will also include new signage, stationery, and a website upgrade over the next few months. With SEK’s rebranding efforts, the firm will continue to offer exceptional service, strong client relationships, and a commitment to clients’ success. “We are very excited to execute our rebrand in conjunction with our Hagerstown, Maryland office move,” states Managing Member John R. Schnitzer, CPA. “This rebrand represents a huge step in SEK’s evolution and is not something that we take lightly. We are still the same company with the same team, but with a fresh look.”
