And while we are known for all of those qualities, there is still so much that people don’t know about Hanover—hidden gems, if you will. Did you know that you can ask for your beer "to-go" at any brewery in the Hanover Borough? Or how about the fact that Hanover houses Pennsylvania’s largest arcade? Or that we have spots to ice skate in the winter and mountain bike in the summer? Yep, we're all that and a bag of chips—or pretzels! Stop by the chamber today to pick up your copy of the 2019 issue of Discover Hanover® Magazine today!

VNA Awards Scholarships The VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove recently awarded their annual Florence deHaven Stick Memorial Scholarships. The scholarship honors Florence de Haven Stick, Hanover’s first visiting nurse. The scholarship fund was established by the VNA in 1982 and funded by a bequest from Dr. Edward W. Stick as a memorial to his wife. The scholarship is awarded to high school students entering an accredited nursing program as well as to students already enrolled in a nursing program. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Stick and his family as well as faithful donors, each student received $4,000 to help with the financial costs of their nursing education. This year’s graduating high school students recipients were: Sarah Wise, New Oxford High School; Kierdyn Ott and Catherine Jensen, Fairfield High School. Post-high school winners were Lori Garman, Millersville University and Tarah-Lynn Smith, HACC Gettysburg.

Main Street Hanover
Bank Lane Transformation
Last month, Main Street Hanover transformed Bank Lane for Sip & Stroll! In continuing to seek ways to implement the Downtown Hanover Streetscape Design and Beautification Plan, Main Street Hanover had the opportunity to team up with consulting firm Team Better Block and project underwriter AARP of Pennsylvania to present a pop-up project to transform Bank Lane into an art-filled pedestrian space. Based on the feedback the public gave during the streetscape plan, Team Better Block generated a number of recommendations for installation in the alley that would further the goals of the community. Those recommendations include crosswalks, parklets, stencil art, seating, wayfinding, and games. On June 6 and 7, over 20 volunteers helped paint, build, and design each element of the project. This alley activation was an opportunity to demonstrate during a one day event changes that could be implemented long-term.
Sip & Stroll Recap
On Saturday, June 8, Main Street Hanover held their Sip & Stroll event in downtown Hanover. 450 ticket holders strolled around downtown, visiting the participating small businesses to enjoy samples of beer, wine, cider, and food. Businesses welcomed strollers with promotions, special events, and special discounts specific for the event. New activities were also set up in Bank Lane; Utz had a booth with fun lawn games, two vendors for the Sip & Stroll set up in the alley, seating was available, event sponsor HD Entertainment’s DJ provided music, and food trucks were enjoyed. Sip & Stroll is Main Street Hanover’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds from the event fund the program’s initiatives and general operations. Main Street Hanover, Inc. is a non-profit and collaborative effort supported by our partners, the Borough of Hanover and the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce. We are dedicated to expanding the economic capacity of downtown Hanover, thus improving the business environment, enhancing the quality of place, and increasing community synergy. The project would not be possible with the following sponsors; we thank them for being a part of transforming downtown Hanover!
