Congressional Visits in Hanover

Recently, several businesses in the Hanover area received visits from elected officials, Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) and Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-14).

First, Congressman Joyce toured several local businesses while in Hanover: Emeco, Britton Coffee Co, and Crownstone Equipment (Bobcat of Adams County). We are grateful to the Congressman for inviting members of the Hanover Chamber team to join him and for his unwavering support of our business community.

Additionally, Congressman Lloyd Smucker visited and completed a tour of Hanover Auto Team. During his visit, he connected with staff, explored the facility, and learned about their newly approved Automotive Technician Specialist Apprenticeship Program.

The Hanover Chamber is proud to have collaborated with Hanover Auto Team to help secure approval for this program, which is already opening up new opportunities for our community. We extend our thanks to Congressman Smucker for his continued efforts in Washington, D.C. to support and expand apprenticeship programs in the Commonwealth.

The Chamber is thrilled to witness meaningful engagement from our local legislators with the Hanover community and small businesses in Pennsylvania. Thank you to our Congressmen for their continued advocacy and dedication to championing local businesses.

HANOVER BOROUGH TO RECEIVE GRANT FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPGRADES

Hanover, York County, Pa. – Funding for traffic signal upgrades in Hanover Borough was recently approved under PennDOT’s “Green Light-Go” program.

Under the state grant program, Hanover Borough will receive $328,120 for comprehensive upgrades to signal equipment at the intersection of Eisenhower Drive and two heavily used shopping centers. State Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Hanover Borough officials believe this will facilitate traffic improvements and enhance safety in Hanover’s north end.

“The funding awarded from Green Light-Go will relieve congestion and

improve traffic flow by upgrading to newer technologies in detection, which in turn allows traffic signals to respond to real-time traffic demand,” said Klunk. “This is just one piece of the puzzle for instituting longterm safety improvements to the Eisenhower Drive intersection. I am looking forward to seeing all the pieces come together.”

“The borough has been wanting to update this intersection for years, but the cost has been prohibitive,” said Margie Lewis, Hanover Borough manager. “Receiving the grant will allow us to finally implement a modern traffic signal on Eisenhower Drive, providing safer travel for motorists.”

The grant will also allow Hanover Borough to add LED luminaries to this poorly lit section of roadway

and add a built-in battery back-up system that will allow the signal to function during power outages. The borough intends to use this design as a template for future traffic signal upgrades to improve safety in the municipality.

Green Light-Go grants are provided as reimbursements to municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals. Grant funding may be used for a range of operational improvements including, but not limited to, light-emitting diode (LED) technology installation, traffic signal retiming, developing special event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies.

These projects are funded through the appropriation for fiscal year 2024-25.

HARRISBURG, PA. (August 12, 2024) – The UPMC Heart & Vascular Institute in Central Pa. earned top recognition by Money magazine as one of the Best U.S. Hospitals for Cardiac Care. UPMC landed 20th out of 75 and is the only ranked hospital located in central Pennsylvania.

This list recognizes the best hospitals for cardiac care focusing on a hospitals' track record for delivering high-quality care and being staffed by the best cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and other heart specialists. Money analyzed 125,000 data points to build their list of exceptional cardiology programs.

"This is a validation of all the hard work the team puts into individualized care for our heart patients," said Michael Bosak M.D., chair, Cardiovascular Services, UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute in Central Pa.
