Shweta Tripathi is an Indian actress, assistant director, model and a true youth inspirer.She is the young face of Indian cinema who made waves in 2015 with her debut performance in Masaan, an Indo-French co- production that opened to a standing ovation at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. The 30-year-old actress began her career on Disney Channel with the teen hit series Kya Mast Hai Life, and then went on to do a lot more roles and faces before getting her big hit in bollywood with Masaan. She is an exceptional actress with her hands full with her own production house and a lot of travelling. She aims to inspire the youth to think differently and live a simple life.

Shweta, born in Delhi, lived all her life in the capital city, except for the three years she spent living in the gorgeous Andaman and Nicobar Islands. She did her primary schooling at DPS Rk Puram, New Delhi and graduated from NIFT, Delhi doing Fashion Communication and then went on to relocate to Mumbai.
“ My father is an IAS officer and my mother is a teacher. There is nobody in my family that is even remotely close to the industry. Even though my parents were culturally inclined and I’ve been acting on stage since I was a child, I never thought of acting as a profession I would consider. ”
“It was during my third year at nift that I told my dad that I wanted to act. I was apprehensive of his reaction but he surprised me by telling me to go ahead. He also told me
‘Don’t just say it, do something about it’.
“ I did a six-month workshop with the then Director of NSD. I then shifted to Mumbai as I was interning at Femina and became part of a theatre group here. It was during one of those days that I was sitting at Prithvi when I was offered a show for Disney. When I told my parents that I will be on TV, it was a different switch even for them. None of us were sure about this (acting) move but they never held me back. Once that happened there was no looking back. ”
professional career Shweta is mostly known for her role as the tomboyish Zenia Khan in the show Kya Mast Hai Life. She also acted in an ad of Tata Sky download, and mcdonalds and most recently Vodafone. She was once a photo editor for the women’s magazine, Femina. Before acting in the Disney show she was also cutting trailers at Pixion trailer house which is a post-production house in Mumbai and also running her theater company ‘ All my tea ‘ productions. She has also been a part of plays like cat in the house and blur. “I was assisting casting director Mukesh Chhabra when I was cast for a 30-second role in Michael Winterbottom’s Trishna (2011). It just happened that Winterbottom asked me to play Freida Pinto’s roommate and I could not say no to him.” “During the making of Trishna, I met a lot of people, including director Anurag Kashyap, producer Guneet Monga, Shlok, Vasan Bala, and eventually Neeraj Ghaywan as well. That’s how Neeraj cast me in Masaan and Shlok cast me in Haraamkhor. I shot for Masaan after Haraamkhor.”
“I had done a short film called Sujata, with director shlok. It was part of an anthology feature called Shorts [2013]. I played the younger version of Huma Qureshi’s character.” In Shlok Sharma’s debut feature Haraamkhor, 30-year-old Shweta Tripathi plays 14-year-old Sandhya, who has an affair with her school teacher Shyam (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The actress, will also make her mark internationally with her next film Zoo -- India’s first feature to be shot on an iPhone Alongside films, she acted in Bindass series The trip. “Shooting for ‘The Trip’ was a party. The girls got along amazingly well helping each other with everything from dialogues to clothes. I can’t wait to get on screen with them again.” The actress is gearing up to once again collaborate with ace director-producer Anurag Kashyap for the new science fiction film ‘Cargo’. The story of the film revolves around a spaceship and it’s crew orbiting in space. Shweta is also stepping into film production with Allmytea productions. “It’s never too early to start doing something that excites you. I feel now is a great time to explore, expand and grow.”

In fact, on a recent family vacation she developed a new passion for scuba diving and now she plans to further explore the mysteries of the sea by diving as often as she can. Shweta is a big foodie and nothing impresses her more than a lovely meal.

“I was born in 1985 and I don’t want to lie about my age because I think that if you start lying about such basic things then… I mean where do you stop? Where do you draw the line? But you have to pay a price for being honest. I’ve lost out a few projects.”

they hear that I played a 14-year-old. I am okay with that reaction as long as they feel I have done justice to the character. And I have not come across a single person who has watched the movie and feels otherwise.”

into place. If you are good then I would like to believe that you should be choosy and make sure there’s a certain kind of quality that is attached to your work and people will come to you. Even if you are doing an advertisement, it should create a desire amongst the viewers to buy the product.”
