Final Project- Weaving Canopy This project is a architectural folly which taken Serra verb list and the movement of dance in space as inspiration. The roof of this folly, which comprise triangular pieces, expresses designer’s perception of dancing movement and its relationship to the space. This “Weaving Cannopy”, stands on two polygonal bases, symbolizes the intricate love relationship between the main charactor and her lovers.

This motion is an activity of boxing in a empty room. The movement from left to right shows the time sequence. The distance between each frame shows the speed between each action. The analysis drawing mark out the movement of arms and legs in each moment, by linking each related joint, it shows the occupancy of two parts of body in space.

This analysis shows the simultaneous relation between different parts of the body. The change in position between each frame forms two separate fluctuations which are homogeneous in the space. It also shows that this activity requires a space which can be occupied for multiple functions easily.

This activities is a simply sitting down motion with the involvement of a chair.The sequence of the motion is showed as the orientation of the body changes. The analysis drawing shows the circulation of the body in the space and the rotation that happened in the space.

The spatial requirement of this activities has a strong relationship with the center of the space, which is the threshold. All the activies rotates and happens around this central boundary. In this circumstance, the occupancy of the body becomes the expansion of the central boundary. This in a way requires a space which has a central focus point or threshold that has the ability to attract people’s attention.

This activitiy is a direct motion from standing up to laying down. This motion doesn’t involve any displacement of the whole body.

The analysis itself shows the contraction both in human body and the space. The L shape in the drawing shows the how the human body contracts in the sequence. And the main trajectory of the drawing also shows a space which first expand then being compressed into the lower stage. This implys a space which has huge contraction of variation of heights or spaces that creates a special experience for inhabiting.

The analysis drawing is mainly focused on the movement of arms in this activities. The lightest lines marks out the arm at each moment, then same joints at different were connected to show the displacement in the time sequence. Then the rotation of forarm is observed by extending lines to the edge of paper, which shows the trajectory of the movement.

From the analysis it is easy to find out that there are lots of resistence in this activity. Arms are used intensively to counteract the force that was exerted on the body. The intensity of the resistence are interpretated as layered walls and spaces, and this eventually leads to a modification to the space where few walls are added to divide the space into few subdivisions.

This activities involves a chair in the space as a spatial threshold. As people moving through the space the chair acted as a boundry which affects the direaction of the circulation. The analysis drawing shows the rotation as well as direction in the movement by the extension and intersection of those lines which represents sholders. At the same time the relationship between body and threshold in space is represented by connecting shoulder to the center of the chair.

The analysis shows the shoulder at each moment as a transitional tunnel formed by stacking modular components. The juxtaposition of components forms a layered topography which can be regarded as the osciliation of structural element in a space.

This activities contains two different stage of motions. the first stage is standing up and step forward. Then, fall on the ground afterwards.

The analysis shows that difference in each moment can be related to other elements, which in a way could be the widness of the pathway or door way. For example when the speed of a persion increase at a certain moment, those walls on both sides could also expends or contrasts as the acceleration was fluctuating.

The analysis drawing shows the rotation of body by the connecting the head with the center of chair. Those lines which link each moment shows the sequence of each movement. The horizontal lines shows the change in height between each moment.

Site Analysis Organizational system/ Clumped Community This projected was originated base on the interest of the organizational strategy. The first discovery was found first in a piece of description of Chinatown:

From the start, Chinese immigrants tended to clump together as a result of both racial discrimination, which dictated safety in numbers, and self-segregation. Unlike many ethnic ghettos of immigrants, Chinatown was largely self-supporting, with an internal structure of governing associations and businesses which supplied jobs, economic aid, social service, and protection‌

This description implies the social characteristic of Chinatown, a large internally tangled society with self-supporting structures. This analytical process focuses on different topics of this “clumped community� such as: does this clumped community have a clear boundary with its surroundings; how is this kind of highly combined society formed; why lower east Manhattan is a perfect area for this distinctive community; and how does the arrangement within the neighbor affect the experience of its inhabitants? These topics were analyzed based on existing data and presented through line weight and color on the analytical drawings.

Final Project - Archive This Project are mainly driven by the concept of friction, which derives from earlier site and seed analysis. Fricition is interpretated as means to promote the interaction between different users and the assigned programs of different space. Since this project comprises two distinct programs: library and seed bank, it has an innate difference within it self. Therefore programmatically this project is designed as two parts: the inner corner as institutional(seed bank), and the outer corner as public(library). By transforming the ground floor into a landscape(by ramps), this project creates a short-cut for pedestrians to the nearby subway station. As ramps extend, some of them went under the ground level, eventually connects the auditorium in the basement with pedestrians on the ground level.In terms of human scale, reading space and book archives on the top two floors are combined together by alternation and repetition.
