GRADUATE OF ARCHITECTURE

PERSONAL Mobile: 0411632016 Email: zhyhelen0312@gmail.com Address: Level 2, 66 Gawler pl

I am a Gradudate of Architecte based in Adelaide, originally from Guangzhou, China. I graduated from The University of Adelaide, where I received my B.Arch and M.Arch, culminating in my final thesis: “Samsara” - A reiteration of a contemporary cemetery in the wale of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, I am an Architectural Intern at Nic Design Studio, an architectural design studio based in Adelaide, with well-designed architecture projects at a variety of scales and typologies. My focus lies at spatializing narrative, where a configuration of spatial spaces is utilized as a narrative medium to convey the design intent to the occupants within the medium.

Cemetery: The Cycle of Death and Rebirth Content: Thesis research, Parametric modelling Architectural documentation,Renders

DESIGN APPROACH ‘Samsara’ in a Buddhist expression for the cycle of death and rebirth. It gives name to a contemporary cemetery that aims to strengthen the connection between the living, the dead and nature. The idea of Samsara is to bring the past to the present by flipping traditional codes of commemoration upside down. Instead of people bringing flowers to a tombstone, it is the cemetery that provides flowers which the visitors can take home to remember their loved ones. Flowers replace the traditional tombstone and become a present from the dead to the living. The often barren fields of tombstones are replaced by an urban park, a field of flowers where people can relax and enjoy visiting their loved ones.

Concept-Life Cycle A sectional model of what happens when human beings are dead and buried underground? Bodies are recomposed by microorganisms and nourish the greens above.

Mixed use of Office and Hotel Development Content: Historical and site conditional research Construction documentation Renders

DESIGN APPROACH Epiphany is a mixed-use office and hotel on 57 Wyatt Street, Adelaide. Wyatt Street has a strong office culture and is located within Adelaide City Council’s Central Business Policy Area, which boasts a serious potential for developing the proposed program.

00. Maximun Block

01. Substraction: Set Back

02. Substraction: View

03. Substraction: Sunlight

Adapting outside and inside as the design theme, vegetation is planned to be extended from outdoor to indoor. The perforated brick facade of the cafe acts as a soft boundary, and the large balcony area of the hotel at the upper level also created a transition zone of outside and inside space. The proposed louvered facade of office levels and triangular enveloped facade with the integration of mesh to aluminum panels of hotel levels provide intimated sunlight control with the east-facing site.

UNDAYAK 03 Studio Culture(M) 2019 Year 4

REDEVELOPMENT OF SHED 26: A MULTI DISPLINARY TRAINING CENTRE Content: Historical building redevelopment Historical and site conditional research Architectural documentation Renders

DESIGN APPROACH “Undayak” is the combination with “undulate” and “kayak.” The program is an undulated training centre with two kayak slalom courses. Inspired by the site wind mapping in terms of contour, the program itself creates a topography in and around Shed 26 that allows people to get in and go around. As a multidisciplinary training centre, Undayak consists of kayak channels for public and professional training, storage/reception, kayak gym, club room, skate bowl, and running track. 0 3 - U N D AYA K - 2 0 1 9

The shed will be taken out of the roof panels, removed central crane supporting system, and added new openings for public entrances. The new combination allows Shed 26 to act as a mysterious ‘factory’ that attracts pass-by to take a detour instead of an abandoned structure.

N Site Plan 0

20

40m

1:2000

The idea behind is based on the multiple activities around Shed 26, such as bicycling, running, and boat picnic. Cedar Woods also make the harbor activities as a selling point. However, there is a little recreational area around the inner harbor.Undayak will surely meet the new residence’ demand.

Park 25

Opulence is a proposed luxury car vending machine located at the intersection of West Terrace and Hindley Street. The superior location ensured a certain amount of visitors around the day. Neighbouring the Ferrari Adelaide and Adelaide BMW allowed Opulence to have the potential of connecting the existing car retail business district and develop the area to be Adelaide’s new Luxury car retail centre. Opulence aims to create a new city landmark. The innovative retail idea can attract more visitors than the conventional one. Opulence is also aimed to create a new retail experience for customers: Everyone can admire the cars outside; however, you are the only person that can touch and feel it closely.

SITE ANALYSIS

1:2000

Opulence created a few detours for a pedestrian on the ground floor, attracting them to come inside the building. Costumers are preferred to book their visits, and they will go through the introduction, consultation, and configuration area, which location on the ground floor. There is also a cafe (first floor) and a sightseeing lift open to the public, which attracts more potential visitors and makes full use of the cars locates at the top.
