Rhythm of Trees Reconstruction of the Community Centre

Tunghai university provides on-campus housing apartments for faculty members and their families. A community centre which is no longer used is located within the faculty residential block. The criteria states that in order to reconstruct the community centre, we have to consider the relationship between the community centre and the neighbourhood and introduce both outdoor and indoor activities to the site.

Tunghai University - Department Buildings & Circulation

Taichung

Taichung City

Situn District

Department buildings in Tunghai university were influenced by traditional Chinese architectural style and modernism style. The campus had been planned at a very early stage, therefore it is very important for us to still maintain the consistency while designing the expansion spaces.

A two story design studio has been located at the back of the department, with a modern exterior and a plant field on the roof top. We also create a under tree space to link the old and new buildings. The court yard has been designed to become a slope. This is to allow the access to the underground hall.

The slope of the court yard can catch the rain water from the roof and allow it to flow down to the same direction. The rain water then be collected and reuse.

Mixed Residential Commercial District Night markets in Taiwan are the essential culture life that’s grown up in the neighbourhood. This culture phenomenon turns the districts of Taiwan into a mixture of residential and commercial uses. However, when it comes to the urban regeneration, traditional night markets have become one of the siqnificant problems of the society against the zoning restriction.

Alley Culture in Taipei

4-storey apartments are commonly seen in Taipei city, and they usually line up to form an alley. Those narrow alleys link up every resident in the district, and create a strong connection to the community. People walk by would feel welcoming and friendly.

Time Recycling

The Uses of Vertical Louvers Instead of Walls and Doors

The vertical louvers make the space to allow multiple uses and activities. In the morning, students could use the first storey of the buildings as an exhibition hall. At night, vertical louvers can be turned into foldable tables and chairs for night market. After the night market closes down, the space can be a parking space for the residents.
