The print version of the magazine is a full-color, high-gloss publication that artfully combines creative, well-written, succinct articles with dynamic and engaging photography. The digital version is a fully-interactive online publication, which delivers the same sparkling content to readers anywhere, any time. Live links allow readers to flip through the publication and access additional information with one simple click. The website is packed with additional features, guest blogger posts and an expanded events calendar. Recent digital issues were read by more than 47,000 people in one month. Readers can also access back issues online, so advertising reach continues long after the shelf-life of the print copy has passed.

Our Team Paula Rochon Mackarey, Publisher Publisher since 1994, Paula has grown Happenings from a black-and-white, 32-page publication to the full-color, glossy 100+ page magazine it is today. Under her leadership, circulation has tripled, and an extremely popular digital version was launched. Recently, Paula earned the position of Board Chairman of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce– the second female to attain this role. An Athena Award recipient and Marywood graduate, she was named one of PA’s Top 50 Women in Business in 2006.

Barbara Toolan, Managing Editor Over 200 issues of Happenings have been published under Barbara’s lead since she became managing editor in 1995. She was named one of Northeast PA’s Top 25 Women in Business in 2008 and is active in many community organizations. She is a graduate of Marywood University’s School of Communication, where she continues her graduate studies. Prior to Happenings, she worked in television sales.

Erika Bruckner, Associate Editor With Happenings since 2003, Erika manages projects on both print and digital levels. She oversees the brand’s new media components, including the digital publication, social media and website. She was named one of Northeast PA’s Top 20 Under 40 in 2010 and served on the Board of Directors for Leadership Lackawanna, among other associations. She is a graduate of Baptist Bible College.

Katherine Kempa, Administrative Assistant Katherine has been with Happenings since 1999. Prior to coming to Happenings, she worked in education and finance and taught business classes. Katherine has been active in business and professional women’s groups. The Susquehanna County resident is a graduate of Marywood University with a BS in business.

Lisa M. Ragnacci, Art Director Art director since 1999, Lisa previously held positions in top regional advertising agencies. She was named one of Northeast PA’s Top 25 Women in Business in 2010. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Advertising Federation, where she also served as chairman of the chapter’s annual ADDY® Awards. She is a graduate of Marywood University with a degree in Advertising Art.

Peter Salerno, Associate Art Director With Happenings since 2007, Peter previously spent many years in the art and design industry. He has experience working with advertising agencies, a design/advertising partnership and independent design work. A graduate of the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School, he is a lifelong resident of Scranton.

Ken Chergosky, Sales Consultant With Happenings since 2008, Ken has over 30 years experience in the media industry. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies as well as small businesses to help them achieve their marketing goals. The Pike County resident holds a BA in communications from William Paterson College and keeps his marketing and advertising knowledge fresh through continuing education.

Rosemary Nye, Sales Consultant Rosemary has been with Happenings since 2002. She is active in associations including the Abington Business and Professional Association, for whom she previously served as president, the Voluntary Action Center and Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was named one of Northeast PA’s Top 25 Women in Business in 2009 and is a graduate of Leadership Wilkes-Barre.

Jane Preate, Sales Consultant Jane has been a sales consultant with Happenings since 2008. Through the years, she has helped clients reach top-of-the-mind awareness and marketing goals in their respective industries. Preate is also experienced in medical and educational sales. The Lackawanna County resident holds a BS in Business from Marywood University.

Annette Profera, Sales Consultant Annette has been working with Happenings since 2002. She and her late husband, Joe, operated Profera’s Pizza Bakery for many decades. Prior to her career at Happenings, Profera was an educator in primary and secondary schools as well as on the college level. She has been active in numerous organizations including UNICO and the ARC (Area for Retarded Citizens), which her father co-founded.

Russ Mack, Communications Counsel A native of Northeast PA, Russ has global experience. He holds his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University and has worked as an executive for several global corporations. He has also worked in the public sector with United States Senators and Presidents.
