IN ITS SEVENTIETH YEAR, BRITISH CRAFTSMEN IN PAINT AND PAPER, FARROW & BALL HAS L AUNCHED NINE ENTICING NEW PAINT COLOURS FOR 2016.

From soft neutrals and muted pastels, to strong brights and rich dark tones, the new additions enhance existing colour families and add new accents to the iconic colour palette. Every hue has been skilfully crafted by a small team of Farrow & Ball experts over the past three years. Carefully chosen to refresh the Farrow & Ball colour card while retaining a timeless feel, the new colours replace nine existing shades to retain an edited palette of 132 paint colours. Rooted in the archives, the new colours celebrate the classic Farrow & Ball look; particularly the new coloured whites and muted drabs. From ethereal Peignoir, to

Founded by two British brothers, Nick and Giles English, Bremont originated from the brothers’ joint lifetime love and passion for engineering and aviation.

together with numerous engine parts. The farmer still even wore his own father’s wristwatch. The brothers promised that his warm hospitality would never be forgotten. His name? Antoine Bremont. Determined to make a watch that would last more than a lifetime, all Bremont timepieces would be tested above and beyond the demands placed upon conventional wristwatches, leading to the company’s maxim “Tested Beyond Endurance”. The high standard of finish and attention to detail seen in everything from the hand-cut and engraved winding rotor in the sapphire crystal case back to the meticulous machining of the three-part Trip-Tick® cases take considerable time and skill to apply. As a result, no more than 1,000 examples of each model are produced annually. Historically, Britain has had a considerable impact on watchmaking and was the pioneer of technical development throughout the last century. Bremont is proud to be at the forefront of the revival of British watchmaking. The appeal for the brand’s high quality

and limited production timepieces is making Bremont a real force in the high-end luxury watch market. Bremont has formed a number of premium partnerships, to include Jaguar, the America’s Cup and Boeing. Each exclusive collaboration has resulted in a range of watches that push the boundaries in both style and substance. This year, Bremont will release a limited edition chronograph to celebrate Boeing’s 100th anniversary. The Boeing 100 mechanical watch, limited to only 300 units, harks back to the early days of aviation with the beloved Boeing ‘Totem’ logo proudly present on its dark vintage brown dial. In recognition of Boeing’s leading position as a commercial aircraft manufacturer, carbon fibre composite from the historically significant and technologically advanced Boeing Dreamliner flying testbed aircraft, ZA004, can be found integrated into the crown of each timepiece.

MAKING A RETURN AFTER SIX YEARS, TO RELEASE HER THIRD STUDIO ALBUM, WE SPOKE WITH DOUBLE GRAMMY AWARDWINNER CORINNE BAILEY RAE, TO FIND OUT WHAT SHE IS UP TO AND THE INSPIRATION BEHIND HER L ATEST LYRICS.

The Mercury-nominated, five-million album selling artist is set to release ‘The Heart Speaks In Whispers’ on May 13th and we can’t wait.

HELLO CORINNE! WHAT ARE YOU UP TO AT THE MOMENT? I’m racing around promoting my new record! It’s very exciting to give life to the songs we’ve recorded and let them out of the box. The rehearsals have gone really well and now we’re looking forward to getting on the road and playing the songs live.

PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM ‘THE HEART SPEAKS IN WHISPERS’? It’s a joyous and experimental record about transformation and nature and following your instincts. There is a strong theme about moving from dark to light, bitterness to sweet.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE NEW MUSIC, AND WHERE DO YOU GO TO WRITE? I hear music in my head all the time, especially when I’m travelling or daydreaming. I think my brain makes up music to entertain me, that’s why I think boredom is important. I love to have no distractions. A day with nothing I have to do it so rare and precious! I’m inspired by nature and poetry, by seeing people interact, by my memories, my dreams. I like to attempt to capture a feeling.

G I V E P R I O R I T Y TO Q UA L I T Y, STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE

HISTORY OF THE CHAMPAGNE HOUSE In 1818, Nicolas François Billecart and his spouse Elisabeth Salmon founded their Champagne House in Mareuil-Sur-Aӱ where the Billecart family has been established since the 17th Century. Since the early 19th Century six generations have succeeded each other at the family home in the heart of the Champagne Region each living by the same motto: ‘Give priority to quality, strive for excellence’.

BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY The House of BILLECART-SALMON has preserved ancestral vinification methods handed down from generation to generation which are constantly being perfected. As part of the ever present quest to maintain the quality of their champagnes, in the fifties the House established the technique of chilling the must combined with the use of stainless steel tanks for a longer fermentation at a lower temperature. As a result, the wines conserve their freshness over time and the aromas intensify, allowing the BILLECART-SALMON champagnes to deliver the same quality and excellence that has come to be expected. The bottles themselves are then laid to rest in the original chalk cellars dating back from the 17th and 19th centuries. PAGE 62

Continuing this perpetual quest for excellence, a new chai was built in 2010 to hold more than 450 oak barrels to skilfully enhance the vinification of the vintage wines.

A PASSIONATE FOUNDER From a wine-grower family, Nicolas François Billecart was born in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ on 22nd December 1794. His ancestor Pierre Billecart was a counsellor at King Louis XIII’s parliament in 1615 in Chalons en Champagne. The coat of arms of the family was assigned by the King thanks

in conjunction with their father, Jean Roland-Billecart. All of them continue to write the fine pages of the House and to pass down their love for champagne for future generations. The flagship cuvee of the House is the Brut Rosé nonvintage which has been receiving high praise and accolades since the 1830’s. The production secrets and the vinification method of this cuvée go back to the origins of the House of BILLECART-SALMON and have been handed down for six generations. The Brut Rosé is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Furthermore the Blanc de Blancs non-vintage, aged in cellars for five years and elaborated only from grand cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, is similarly starting to receive recognition for its high quality. Two of the House’s vintage cuvées have been named in honour of the two founders. The Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart was created in 1964, with the Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon Rosé following in 1988. Current vintages include the Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart 2002 which is joined by the Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon Rosé 2006, released at the end of 2015. The House’s most exclusive cuvée is cultivated in the Clos Saint-Hilaire, with Pinot Noir grown from half a century of careful cultivation. This one hectare of precious land is sheltered by a stone wall and produces an exceptional champagne of rare complexity and stunning freshness harvest after harvest. After several years of painstakingly tending the vines the first limited release of this unique cuvée was the 1995 vintage.

‘CHAMPAGNE OF THE MILLENNIUM’ In June 1999, the 1959 Vintage was chosen “Champagne of the Millennium” by a committee of experts at a blind tasting involving 150 vintages from the most illustrious champagne producers, organized in Stockholm by Richard to his role: three bunches of grapes attesting to the long history of the family in the cultivation of the vine. Upon completing his studies, Nicolas François Billecart took over the operation of the family vineyard situated in Mareuilsur-Aÿ where he was also village mayor from 1848 to 1858.

Juhlin, a great champagne specialist. The 1961 vintage, for its part, came second. Overall, BILLECART-SALMON incarnates a style of champagne spirit. If described in three words they would be finesse, balance and elegance.

A FA M I LY H E R I TA G E Today, the family perpetuates its legend thanks to François and Antoine Roland-Billecart, representing the sixth generation of the family, who lead this independent House

Bringing to life his awardwinning philosophy of sustainably sourced seafood, Alex Aitken introduced the unique concept of ‘Catch it, cook it, eat it’ trips to the group; heading off for a fishing trip with local fishermen, then returning to the restaurant to prepare, cook and dress your catch. Setting sail from Whitestrand Pontoon, with local skipper Chris Puncher and Chef Patron Alex Aitken, we motor up the estuary, past

With Alex on hand to further guide us, we drop our weighted lines and begin gently flicking the rod up and down to attract the fish. Soon, to much excitement, we had caught our first catch! Soon we were reeling in catch after catch, motoring around the picturesque shoreline as we followed
