Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa and The Kings also offer delicious dining for guests who stay a little longer. The Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa, guided by Alex, has recently opened its new Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant. Contemporary and chic with a warm atmosphere, this venue on the water’s edge is the perfect setting for dining in style. The menu invites you to indulge in fresh seafood, from Poole Bay rock oysters, cracked crab claws and lobster, to local fishing boats’ catch of the day, all

whilst drinking in beautiful harbour views. Extending this fresh thinking, the mouth-watering choice of dishes includes home-reared lamb, pork and beef, as well as light bites and a range of carefully selected wines to tempt your taste buds. For wedding guests staying a little longer, sampling what Alex and the team have to offer is an irresistible treat. At The Kings, Alex has designed the menus around the concept of ‘fun dining.’ Challenging the convention that fine dining means starched white tablecloths and pretentious jus, Alex and the Kings’ team deliver worldclass flavour in a relaxed environment. With the best local ingredients, and serving generous portions, your

meal at The Kings will be unforgettable. With all this experience in such eclectic menus, Alex recommends that ‘your wedding breakfast should be a reflection of you as a couple, from ‘fun dining’ to traditional three-course breakfasts, the food should mirror your style and the tone of the day.’ At the Christchurch Harbour and The Kings hotels, you can be certain that your wedding breakfast will be delectably tailored to you and your day.

BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS

Beautiful

BLOOMS

FRESH AND FRAGRANT, SYMBOLIC OF YOUTH, BEAUTY AND HAPPINESS, DRESS YOUR DAY BEAUTIFULLY WITH FANTASTIC FLOWERS THAT ACCENTUATE YOUR THEME AND COLOURS.

W

hen it comes to wedding flowers, brides are baffled by the variety of beautiful blooms. But with a little help from a friendly florist, you are ensured breath-taking décor and fantastic photos. With such a wide variety available, we take a look at some options when considering the flowers for your big day… Match your flowers to your theme for perfectly pretty décor. Vintage is particularly popular at the moment, with dresses finished with lace, pastel colour palettes and hand finished decorations. Choose subtle ivories, soft textures and muted tones, accentuated by deep greens for eye-catching contrast. Coral roses and freesias are perfect for the bride’s bouquet, or lavender for something more unusual with a delicate colour and scent. Why not accessorise with leftover lace from your dress fitting, or soft white feathers that will catch in the breeze? For your coastal wedding with a seaside theme, blue flowers will instantly convey tranquil waters. Soft blue hydrangeas, nigella and cornflowers are all stunning for your arrangements. A striking alternative is to choose pretty white petals and arrange your flowers with blue ribbon around the stems or vase, reminiscent of pure white foam atop crashing waves. Accessories such as shells and ropes are also fun and effective to incorporate into your coastal decor.

If your idea of wedding day bliss is one surrounded by the simple beauty of a country garden, choose a selection of soft pinks, greens and creams. Great flowers for this theme are lilies, ammi majus, gerbera, alstroemeria and fragrant narcissi. Or if you dream in bold, bright colours, tulips are widely available, versatile and eye-catching. But why not make use of the exotic colours in statement stems such as bird of paradise flowers or orange anthurium? They are also perfect for a tropical theme. Remember, although brides are lucky that many flowers are now grown in greenhouses and available all year round, it is wise to consider the seasons when choosing your flowers. Seasonal blooms will often look best and complement the time of year that you wed. Out of season stocks, although available, may be more expensive than their in-season counterparts. In spring, peonies, sweet peas, daffodils and freesias are in season and perfectly pretty. And, for a summer wedding, there is plenty of choice; from romantic roses in shades of white, pink and red, to blousy peonies and joyful yellow sunflowers – design your day bursting with colour. Autumn offers warm shades of dahlia and aramanthus, which look fantastic against dark, forest greens. Then winter with its red amaryllis and berried ivy can offer some very striking displays. With such variety throughout the year, take inspiration from nature

and consider seasonal blooms for your wedding day. Once you have chosen your colour palette of petals, don’t forget all the opportunities you have to show off your beautiful flowers. Of course you will carry a bouquet down the aisle, but will you choose a simple hand-tied bunch of your favourites, or a cascading bouquet with flowing flowers? Other options include teardrop designs, a basket of freshly cut stems, an arm bouquet or a simple, single stem accentuated by beads, diamantes or ribbon. As you choose, consider your theme, the overall ‘look’ you wish to achieve and, perhaps most importantly, what will make you feel the most special as you walk to meet your soon-to-be husband. Match your own bouquet to those of your bridesmaids and the bridal party, not forgetting the buttonholes. And then think about the flowers you would like at your wedding venue. A dramatic arch of flowers around the door through which you enter through gives a stunning first impression for your friends and family (and your future husband if

he turns around to look!). Many brides also choose big vases full of flowers, and smaller displays for the ends of pews or rows of chairs, which dresses the room beautifully. Remember that your flowers can always be moved to the reception venue, so that you can make the very most of your perfectly designed displays. Table centres can be tailored to your exact wishes from elegant and tall vases to fish bowls with floating petals. Big displays make a grand statement, but remember that it will be difficult for your guests to talk through them. And make sure you don’t block out the view of the top table, as all eyes will be on the blissful newlyweds! Flowers can be incorporated into every aspect of your day; with your hairstyle, wedding car, thank you bouquets and even adorning your cake. So make the most of your beautiful blooms for a fantastically floral celebration.

DREAMS LEAVE IT TO THE

our wedding will be the most important day of your lives: a hazy blur of vows, smiles, laughter and love, and the services of a professional Toastmaster or Master of Ceremonies will ensure you are stress-free to savour every precious second. His role on the day is to always be on hand, keeping an eye on the important little details so you don’t have to, explains Michael Judd; the preferred Toastmaster of both the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa and The Kings. You will usually meet your Toastmaster, a professional at keeping things running smoothly, six weeks before the big day. This is an opportunity to get to know one another and discuss your plans. Michael takes us through the role of the Toastmaster from this point forward… With all your arrangements confirmed, I coordinate your special day. While the bridal party are excitedly getting ready, my responsibilities as Toastmaster have already begun. At the venue, I liaise with the Hotel team, ensuring all your meticulous planning has come together. I talk to the florists and confirm the decorations are in place, before confirming that the ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast music is ready to play. If you are having a live band, I help the musicians to prepare and set up so that everything is ready for your arrival. Then I turn my attention to the little, but equally important, details: the gifts are ready for the

bridegroom’s speech; the microphone is connected and tested; the guestbook is in place and a knife is by the cake. There is nothing to distract you from enjoying your day, as everything is carefully prepared. As the ‘I do’ moment draws near, I help the ushers with the seating plan and welcome your guests. Being relaxed but never casual, my presence creates a real sense of occasion as everyone arrives to join your celebration. I check with the registrar that the readers are ready; the relevant interviews have taken place, and then help to arrange the bridal processional party for their head-turning entrance. After the ceremony, it’s time for the bubbles! I greet you as blissful newlyweds with a glass of Champagne to enjoy your drinks reception. The gifts and cards from guests are collected on your behalf, I help to circulate the guest book and canapés are served with Champagne, so that you and your guests are completely free to share this magical moment together. To make sure that you have a wedding album bursting with beautiful photos, I then assist the photographer to coordinate all of the photographs you have requested. I announce the family and friends required for each shot, and make sure everyone is present, so you will be stress-free and beaming in every picture. team that all is prepared, I take you, the bride and bridegroom, to see your wedding breakfast room for the first time. It is a moment to pause together during your whirlwind day, and if any changes need to be made, I make sure they happen before your guests are welcomed to the receiving line. Once they are seated, I announce you as a married couple to a rapturous standing ovation of your friends and family. During the wedding breakfast, I announce the iconic cutting of the cake, and when it’s time for the speeches, I introduce each speaker individually. To ensure this fun and often emotional part of your celebration is seamless, I am on hand throughout and assist the bridegroom when presenting flowers and gifts. After the best man’s finale speech, drawing proceedings to an official close, my role as Toastmaster is about to finish as I gather your guests and welcome you both for the first dance of the evening. I then leave you on the dance floor, celebrating with your friends and family as newlyweds at the end of your perfect wedding day. FUN & GAMES

FUN GAMES MAKE SURE YOUR WEDDING IS THE EVENT OF THE YEAR BY KEEPING YOUR GUESTS ENTERTAINED FROM THE ‘I DOS,’ UNTIL THE LAST DANCER RETREATS FROM THE DANCE FLOOR AT DAWN. CONSIDER THESE IDEAS TO KEEP EVERYONE SMILING ALL DAY LONG, AND SNAP SOME FANTASTIC FUN PHOTOS AT THE SAME TIME…

T

he Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa and The Kings are each blessed with unique and beautiful surroundings. Why not make the most of the idyllic outdoors, and invite your guests outside to play giant garden games? On the sunny lawn beside the sea at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa, or during Pimms on the Green at The Kings, these games are a fantastic way to get your guests mingling during your drinks reception. With choices from chess and Jenga to Connect 4 and quoits, all in giant form, everyone is sure to join in the fun and enjoy your stunning wedding location.

Another fun and unusual way of making your friends and family smile, is hiring an ice cream tricycle to offer sweet treats during your reception. Not just for kids, this is a tasty way to help your guests keep cool in the sun, with a selection of flavours and toppings available. Chilly White Ice Cream Tricycle is a recommended local company. Their vintage style ice cream tricycle and staff, dressed in traditional red and white striped blazers and bow ties, not forgetting the unlimited ice cream and toppings, will be a really unusual treat on your special day. And at Christchurch’s coastal location, what better way to celebrate than with a classic seaside ice cream?

FUN & GAMES

‘EVERYONE IS SURE TO JOIN IN THE FUN AND ENJOY YOUR STUNNING WEDDING LOCATION.' The Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa also features a new Champagne Beach Hut Bar on the Lower Terrace, looking out over the Harbour. A completely unique location to serve drinks to your guests, the Beach Hut is the perfect focal point for your outdoor entertainment. When it’s time for your wedding breakfast, there is often plenty of time between courses as diners finish and plates are cleared. A professional magician can make this time memorable as he mingles and entertains speedy eaters. For those guests sitting together who have never met, table-top magic is a fantastic way of breaking the ice. It’s also brilliant entertainment for otherwise distracted children during the sometimes lengthy speeches. A real talking point as your guests marvel at the mystery, a magician is certain to get everyone into the party mood. To carry on the festive atmosphere, Viva Las Vegas specialise in fun casinos for special occasions, and are great for evening celebrations. Perfect for weddings with a difference, this recommended company will print customised bank notes with your photo, names, date and venue of your wedding, which make funky favours for guests. Their full sized luxury gaming tables and professional croupiers will make you feel like you’re at the real thing. You will want to remember every moment of your wedding day and a photo booth is a quirky way of not only snapping priceless pics, but entertaining your guests at the same time. Have a booth set up at your reception and invite friends and family to jump in and pull a face! Say Fromage are a tried and trusted photo booth company, with high quality, touch-screen equipment and a professional host to help your guests make

the most of their photos. With unlimited prints, your guests get a keepsake of your day, and Say Fromage will send you a memory stick of all the snaps, so you’ll get to look at every funny face they pull. Why not ask friends and family to stick a picture in your guestbook with their well wishes, for a totally unique memento? And then, of course, it’s time for the dancing. Nothing gets people up and showing off their moves like a disco. With music for everyone to recognise and enjoy, the dedicated DJ has a unique talent of bringing people together under disco lights. Guests can make requests and you can even discuss setting a playlist of your favourite songs before the night. This is always a great way to let your hair down with friends and family at the end of a perfect day.

TOUCHES YOU’VE SET THE DATE, BOOKED THE VENUE AND BOUGHT THE DRESS. BUT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE INTRICATE DETAILS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR WEDDING DAY PERFECTLY PERSONAL?

59

FINISHING TOUCHES

60

T

he finishing touches make a wedding extra special – a day that will stay in the memories of your guests long after the confetti settles. From classy chair covers that tie into your colour scheme, to chauffeured transport that makes you feel like royalty, you have limitless choices to create an utterly bespoke celebration. Have a look at these ideas for inspiration… ‘Save the date’ cards and invitations are the very first glimpse your guests will have of your magical day. You want to make a great impression and stunning stationery can say just as much as the message it delivers. Co-ordinating invitations with orders of service, menus and thank you cards, evokes understated sophistication and allow you as a couple to communicate your style and personality throughout the day (and beyond!). Your wedding gown is the princess-dress from your dreams, so on your wedding day make sure you feel every inch the Cinderellabride. Glow from top-to-toe with pampered tresses adorned with a tiara, flowers or gleaming pearls. At South Hair, the consultant spends time with the bride discussing her envied styles from magazines to create the perfect ‘do’ for The Day. Take along a picture of your dress so the stylist can visualise how your locks will complement the design, and start to imagine how you will look when your future husband turns and sees you on your wedding day. With your hair curled and perfectly pinned, your dress laced up and flower girls ready, it’s time to travel in style to meet your soon-tobe husband. Choose transport that matches your theme and makes your day magical - be that a sleek red and roaring Ferrari or classic and vintage Rolls-Royce. The wheels you choose have the power to turn heads and get your guests talking, so some couples choose something a little less conventional – why not arrive in a London taxi or LAPD police car? It’ll certainly be an unforgettable ride!

FINISHING TOUCHES

If you really want to wow your guests when they enter your reception venue, chair covers add instant elegance and luxury, transforming the humble chair from a practical place to sit, to an important part of your décor. Use organza or taffeta sashes to transform the venue into your own wedding wonderland, incorporating your chosen colour into every aspect of the decoration. Once your guests have cleared their plates, the cutting of the cake is a photo album favourite, and the cake itself the grand finale of your wedding breakfast. Although classically elegant white-icing tiers are ever popular and beautiful; many couples choose to extend their personality and wedding theme to the frosting. Swap the waltzing cake-toppers for a bikini-babe and her surfing hubby, or make it pretty with life-like petals and edible rose-buds. The creative bakers at Huckleberry’s Kitchen are masters in their delicious art and love to create unique designs. Talk to them about who you are and how you visualise your day, and together you’ll design a cake that’s not just a delicious dessert, but a photogenic talking point.

ON YOUR MAGICAL DAY SPARKLE FROM HEAD TO TOE WITH THESE GORGEOUS AND GLITTERING JEWELLERY IDEAS…

Half and full eternity rings by brand B&N (All rings can be made in palladium, platinum, 9 and 18ct white and yellow gold. Prices start from £1,450 for diamond set.)

Wedding bands start from £190 Every piece is handmade by skilled and experienced craftsmen to fulfil the customer's individual preferences. Combining modern technology and marrying it seamlessly with traditional craftsmanship creates rings that are truly unique and quite without equal.

C

hoosing the ring that will represent your union is an exciting but sometimes daunting task. One of the South West’s most prestigious jewellers and experts in beautiful accessories, Allum and Sidaway, explain what is on trend and eternally popular with couples searching for ‘the one.’ Diamonds will forever be a timeless choice for engagement rings: the ultimate symbol of love throughout the centuries. Setting this stone as a statement solitaire remains a favourite design, but diamond clusters are also currently popular for couples coveting extra sparkle. Sapphires make a beautiful alternative to colourless stones, and engraved details and mill grain edges add subtle touches to give your jewellery a vintage quality. Many couples complement their chosen engagement and wedding rings with an eternity ring, symbolising devotion and commitment. Often presented to the wife upon the birth of a first child, or important anniversary, the trio of rings are worn as a set. It is important to match metals, settings and shapes of stones, but the eternity ring is another opportunity to introduce a hint of colour through rubies or sapphires.

‘MANY COUPLES COMPLEMENT THEIR CHOSEN ENGAGEMENT AND WEDDING RINGS WITH AN ETERNITY RING, SYMBOLISING DEVOTION AND COMMITMENT.’

When you’re thinking about jewellery from Allum and Sidaway as gifts for the loved ones who have helped on your big day, Pandora bracelets with a charm to match the colour scheme make gorgeous gifts for bridesmaids. Cufflinks are perfect for the best man and groomsmen, and pendants or pearl earrings a lovely present that lasts for the mother of the bride. With radiant rings on your fingers, have you considered the other pieces of jewellery that will have you shimmering down the aisle? Gallery Young specialise in bridal and occasion headwear, and all their striking tiaras are designed and made inhouse. So, the bride has a choice from the collection, or the option to create a unique piece to her exact specifications. Owner Valerie, explains that tiaras are ever popular for brides on their princess day, with a recent resurgence of Gatsby, 1920’s inspired pieces leading many designs. For a beautifully coordinating bridal procession, consider presenting each of the bridesmaids with a smaller version of the bride’s own tiara. This matching jewellery theme can be extended to necklaces, bracelets and earrings so that your special girls share in the sparkle. Matching jewellery that can be kept after the wedding also makes a wonderful gift and memento of your magical day. Although fresh flowers will play a key role in your wedding décor, a modern and quirky idea from Gallery Young is to trade in the petals and match Swarovski crystal buttonholes with the bride’s jewellery. The groom and ushers then share some glitz with a beautiful, bespoke keepsake that will never wilt. Why not create a glittering corsage for the mother of the bride too? She’ll treasure it for a lifetime and can wear it as a brooch after your wedding day.

These enamel cufflinks, by Deakin and Francis, are perfect for every passion and personality. £235

DANIEL & TINA TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELVES… HOW DID YOU MEET?

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT?

Daniel worked as a personal trainer/fitness instructor at New Milton Health and leisure centre where I regularly attended the gym.

A string quartet for before and during the wedding ceremony, and also during our drinks reception. A casino kept everyone entertained in the quiet period between the wedding breakfast and evening reception, followed by a disco.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? On my 30th Birthday at Whitely Ridge Hotel in Brockenhurst, now known as The Pig.

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? There was no theme as such. Our aim was for the wedding to be very classic and elegant in style, although our table names comprised places in Rome which we planned to visit on our honeymoon.

WHAT WERE YOUR FLOWERS LIKE? White phalaenopsis orchids in white ceramic vases for the centrepieces on the guest tables, and a line of goldfish bowls with a single purple vanda orchid inside each one for the top table. I had a beautiful waterfall bouquet of white phalaenopsis orchids with green foliage whilst my bridesmaids had hand tied bouquets of cream roses and the flowergirls little silver wands with a single cream rose and purple ribbon, all with diamante detail.

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? We had a three course wedding breakfast with prawn and shrimp cocktail or soup to start, lamb or goats’ cheese tart for the main, and pana cotta for pudding; and a buffet in the evening.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES ON THE DAY? We had a lovely framed purple and white typographic print made with a series of words which described our lives together i.e. the date we met, where we got engaged, the date, venue and time of our wedding and the song we had chosen for our first dance, amongst other things. We also used casino money personalised with a photograph of us as wedding favours.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? The drinks reception after the ceremony. We mingled with our guests outside in the sunshine overlooking Hengisbury Head, whilst drinking Kia Royal and listening to the string quartet.

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? We went to Italy where we spent a few days in Rome sightseeing followed by a relaxing break in Sorrento.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? We would say try to be as organised as possible and leave yourselves plenty of time to arrange everything to avoid any last minute panics. That way you'll also have time to add in those little touches which will make the day extra special.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE CHRISTCHURCH FOR YOUR VENUE? Definitely the stunning views of Hengisbury Head from the ceremony room and garden, as well as the style and decor of the Hotel itself.

SIMON & SARAH HOW DID YOU MEET? We met New Year’s Eve 2009 in a pub in Southampton when one of my colleagues arranged for his friends, including Simon, to come down from Bristol for the night.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? It wasn't the most romantic proposal! It was more of a marriage chat and we felt that our relationship had reached the right stage.

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? We went for an English garden theme. We wanted an outside wedding but as the weather is so unpredictable, we incorporated the theme to bring the outside in.

WHAT WERE YOUR FLOWERS LIKE? We decided on roses as I love them. My bouquet was a combination of red, white and pink, and Simon wore a red rose for his button hole, with his two best men, my father and his father wearing pink roses. On the tables we had goldfish bowls with white pebbles and green reed curled around the inside, and one of each colour rose floating as well.

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? Catering was a three course meal, with our menu designed by The Kings. For the starter we had a terrine of ham hock, followed by slow cooked blade of beef, and for desert we had iced hazelnut and honey nougatine. It all tasted absolutely divine.

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT? We opted for a local DJ who was great. I don't normally like DJ's, as I find they can be cheesy, but ours was fantastic and played music to suit our guests’ moods.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES ON THE DAY? My great uncle from Australia, who hasn't been back to England for at least 20 years, came to wedding crash. Everyone was smiling and crying at the same time! We were completely shocked.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? I can’t choose just one. My father and I had a moment just before we walked down the aisle. I was so nervous and he had a little tear in his eye. And Simon's speech: he was so nervous that he gulped down some wine for Dutch courage, and just before he said how amazing I looked, he burped! The room was in hysterics.

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? We spent one week in Sri Lanka, which was full of sightseeing, and for the second week we went to the Maldives for some total relaxation.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? Remember it is YOUR day. Make it one to remember and what you both want.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE CHRISTCHURCH FOR YOUR VENUE? We didn't necessarily look to get married in Christchurch, it was more that we loved The Kings. The outside green area was beautiful; it allowed us to have space outside but the security of inside shelter. There were so many different and beautiful backgrounds for our photos; old ruins, the gardens, the bowling hut, and the canal.

RICHARD & JANE HOW DID YOU MEET? We me through work: Jane's employer was one of my employer's clients.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? It was in August 2010 when we were on the beach in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. Richard got down on one knee to pop the question.

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? We chose a ‘seaside’ theme as much as possible to reflect the stunning location.

WHAT WERE YOUR FLOWERS LIKE? We chose bright bouquets which were mainly hot pink and purple. We also had a trail of flowers to decorate the wedding cake.

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? The Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa's catering team took care of this for us. We'd eaten in the restaurant on previous occasions and loved the food. Everything was perfect on the day. We chose a traditional chicken roast dinner as it was a Sunday. Later, we had an evening buffet which was also fantastic.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE CHRISTCHURCH FOR YOUR VENUE? Jane's family have a very special tie to Christchurch as she has always visited regularly with her parents and grandparents. Also, we wanted a wedding close to the sea. The location couldn’t have been more perfect. We visited the Hotel one evening in October and it was a beautiful day with the most amazing views and a fantastic sunset. We just fell in love with the place.

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT? We used Richard Welsh from Party Nights Out. He was excellent – engaging the crowd perfectly and choosing music that was spot on.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES ON THE DAY? Jane's parents surprised Jane and me with a white starlit dance floor for the evening, which looked absolutely amazing.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? The whole day was amazing for us… I can’t even try to choose a favourite moment!

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? As we have children, we stayed in the Dorset area for the week after the wedding. We went to Naish Holiday Park, a few miles from Christchurch, and stayed in a cabin there.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? Go with your heart, shop around, make purchases and place orders via a credit card to give you extra cover if things do go wrong – our first choice photographer and videographer went bust a year before the wedding and we'd paid the full amount in advance, so luckily the credit card company covered us for that. Also, we'd absolutely recommend Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa as a venue because they helped everything go perfectly.

MATT & NICOLA HOW DID YOU MEET? Matt had an internet dating profile that our mutual friend showed me, and we then chatted over email for a couple of days before meeting up. We had an instant connection and finally got married exactly 6 years after our first date.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? On Christmas day 2011, we were with Matt's family in Mudeford. There appeared a big box with my name on it and there were lots of layers and decoy presents, but finally I uncovered a lovely Tiffany & Co box with my beautiful diamond ring inside.

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT? As we were having a small wedding we decided not to have a disco, so Matt and I spent days trawling through our music collection and put together various playlists for each part of the day.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES ON THE DAY?

DID YOU HAVE A THEME?

As my mum passed away not long after Matt and I met, I knew it would be tough not having her there on the day. Matt's mum wove my mum's eternity ring into my bouquet and it was lovely to know it was there. Matt's mum also gave Matt her wedding band, and he had it re-cast into a ring for himself.

When I found bridesmaids’ dresses in a gorgeous blue, I knew they would suit all of our girls, and our colour scheme fell into place.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT?

WHAT WERE YOUR FLOWERS LIKE? We had spring flowers and Matt's mum made all of our beautiful bouquets, buttonholes, corsages and our top table arrangement. Then my best friend and I put together the other table arrangements and our flowers became a really special part of the day.

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? We chose a tapas platter to start, then a trio of roasted meats for our main course. We followed it up with wedding cake for dessert that was made by our wonderful bridesmaid, Caroline.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE CHRISTCHURCH FOR YOUR VENUE?

We decided to head out for our photographs regardless of the rain and we had such fun out there. Our wonderful photographer even got our guests to join in a rendition of 'Singing in the Rain' and our photographs are incredible!

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? We headed to Sri Lanka for two weeks of adventure and absolute luxury. Matt was adamant that our wedding budget should be split 50:50 on the wedding and honeymoon so that we could have the holiday of a lifetime.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? If you want to do something a little out of the ordinary, forget other people's expectations and just go for it!

We live in Milton Keynes so looked at lots of venues between home and Dorset, but once we'd visited The Kings we knew that it was just right for the intimate and relaxed wedding we wanted.

BEN & JODY HOW DID YOU MEET? At a Ceroc dance class (Modern Jive). One Sunday evening I remember dancing with Ben…it was definitely love at first sight. The next week I mentioned about another local class I was planning on going to and when it arrived…he was there! We danced together most of the night and at the end of the class he asked me out for dinner.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? I was late home from work one evening and Ben said we were going out for dinner. We went to our favourite restaurant and sat down in the lounge area, when Ben all of a sudden got down on one knee. He popped the question right there and of course I was delighted to say YES!

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? I was very excited to do a beach theme, whilst being careful not to go over the top. Favours for the ladies were white, ceramic oyster shell candle holders, and the gents had a bag of fudge, which I hand tied with cellophane and teal ribbon. To hold the place cards on to the wine glasses, I found some miniature seaside themed pegs, and we had real starfish scattered on the tables.

WHAT WERE YOUR FLOWERS LIKE? Fresh, classic and simple. I didn't want to hide the detailing on the dress, nor the bouquet to be difficult to hold on the day, so I had a hand held bouquet, with a mix of ivory flowers. For each round table I opted for a glass fish bowl, with a couple of floating ivory coloured gerberas.

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? We thought about having a BBQ, but in the end went with a traditional three course sit-down dinner. We had a goats’ cheese salad to start, chicken breast for the main and panna cotta with a raspberry coulis for dessert.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GET MARRIED BY THE SEA? We always wanted to get married by the sea and at a venue we could return back to time and time again. There's something magical about getting married on the coast.

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT? For the drinks reception we booked the singer, Katie Francesca, and for the evening we had a great band called the 'Geoff Lia Special'. We also hired a local DJ and everyone danced all night.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES ON THE DAY? Using a videographer was great as he captured our day perfectly. It’s now a lovely way to relive our wedding.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? Seeing Ben as I walked down the aisle was just an amazing feeling.

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? As Ben was limited to taking time off work we ended up going to the Gower Peninsula, in Wales, for a few days. For our main honeymoon, we went to the Florida Keys in January.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? Remember your photographs will last a lifetime, so take time to choose the perfect photographer. We booked Emma Hurley Photography and there were so many beautiful images captured that it was difficult to choose between them for our album!
