ward winning Chef Patron Alex Aitken, creates delectable menus for St Ives Harbour Hotel, working with the Head Chef to source the freshest ingredients, bursting with flavour; ‘We have a very simple food philosophy; keep it fresh, seasonal and local.’ Understanding that your wedding breakfast is no ordinary meal, Alex explains it’s a journey from inception to service:
24
“Our couples meet with the whole team, including Chef, working together to create the perfect menu for their special day. Your wedding day is a journey over several months, we aim to make each step fun, building up to a glorious event.” Alex recommends that “your wedding breakfast should be a reflection of you as a couple, from ‘fizz ‘n’ chips’ to traditional three-course breakfasts, the food
should mirror your style and the tone of the day.” At the St Ives Harbour Hotel, you can be certain that your wedding breakfast will be delectably tailored to you and your day. The whole team are dedicated to delivering the wedding of your dreams. From discussing themes and décor, to the food and wine and pre decision tastings, we work closely with each couple to create a wonderful day.
COOL COCKTAILS With a spectacular backdrop, private wedding terrace and outdoor silk-draped gazebo make the most of your drinks reception with bespoke cocktails and drinks to suit your day. Choose ingredients and create drinks to match your theme and the time of year; we would recommend elderflower in Champagne for spring, Mojitos for the summer months and White Russians in the winter. Why not go one step further and hire in retro mason jar dispensers to serve your drinks from, adding decorative elements that reflect your wedding theme.

Beautiful
BLOOMS
FRESH AND FRAGRANT, SYMBOLIC OF YOUTH, BEAUTY AND HAPPINESS, DRESS YOUR DAY BEAUTIFULLY WITH FANTASTIC FLOWERS THAT ACCENTUATE YOUR COLOUR PALETTE AND THEME
W
hen it comes to wedding flowers, brides are baffled by the variety of beautiful blooms. But with a little help from a friendly florist, you are ensured breath-taking décor and fantastic photos. With such a wide variety available, we take a look at some options when considering the flowers for your big day… Match your flowers to your theme for perfectly pretty décor. Vintage is particularly popular at the moment, with dresses finished with lace, pastel colour palettes and hand finished decorations. Choose subtle ivories, soft textures and muted tones, accentuated by deep greens for eye-catching contrast. Coral roses and freesias are perfect for the bride’s bouquet, or lavender for something more unusual with a delicate colour and scent. Why not accessorise with leftover lace from your dress fitting, or soft white feathers that will catch in the breeze? For your coastal wedding with a seaside theme, blue flowers will instantly convey tranquil waters. Soft blue hydrangeas, nigella and cornflowers are all stunning for your arrangements. A striking alternative is to choose pretty white petals and arrange your flowers with blue ribbon around the stems or vase, reminiscent of pure white foam
atop crashing waves. Accessories such as shells and ropes are also fun and effective to incorporate into your coastal decor. If your idea of wedding day bliss is one surrounded by the simple beauty of a country garden, choose a selection of soft pinks, greens and creams. Great flowers for this theme are lilies, ammi majus, gerbera, alstroemeria and fragrant narcissi. Or if you dream in bold, bright colours, tulips are widely available, versatile and eyecatching. But why not make use of the exotic colours in statement stems such as bird of paradise flowers or orange anthurium? They are also perfect for a tropical theme. Remember, although brides are lucky that many flowers are now grown in greenhouses and available all year round, it is wise to consider the seasons when choosing your flowers. Seasonal blooms will often look best and complement the time of year that you wed. Out of season stocks, although available, may be more expensive than their in-season counterparts. In spring, peonies, sweet peas, daffodils and freesias are in season and perfectly pretty. And, for a summer wedding, there is plenty of choice; from romantic roses in shades of white, pink and red, to blousy peonies and
29

joyful yellow sunflowers – design your day bursting with colour. Autumn offers warm shades of dahlia and aramanthus, which look fantastic against dark, forest greens. Then winter with its red amaryllis and berried ivy can offer some very striking displays. With such variety throughout the year, take inspiration from nature and consider seasonal blooms for your wedding day. Once you have chosen your colour palette of petals, don’t forget all the opportunities you have to show off your beautiful flowers. Of course you will carry a bouquet down the aisle, but will you choose a simple handtied bunch of your favourites, or a cascading bouquet with flowing flowers? Other options include teardrop designs, a basket of freshly cut stems, an arm bouquet or a simple, single stem accentuated by beads, diamantes or ribbon. As you choose, consider your theme,
the overall ‘look’ you wish to achieve and, perhaps most importantly, what will make you feel the most special as you walk to meet your soon-to-be husband. Match your own bouquet to those of your bridesmaids and the bridal party, not forgetting the buttonholes. And then think about the flowers you would like at your wedding venue. A dramatic arch of flowers around the door through which you enter through gives a stunning first impression for your friends and family (and your future husband if he turns around to look!). Many brides also choose big vases full of flowers, and smaller displays for the ends of pews or rows of chairs, which dresses the room beautifully. Remember that your flowers can always be moved to the reception venue, so that you can make the very most of your perfectly designed displays.
Table centres can be tailored to your exact wishes from elegant and tall vases to fish bowls with floating petals. Big displays make a grand statement, but remember that it will be difficult for your guests to talk through them. And make sure you don’t block out the view of the top table, as all eyes will be on the blissful newlyweds! Flowers can be incorporated into every aspect of your day; with your hairstyle, wedding car, thank you bouquets and even adorning your cake. So make the most of your beautiful blooms for a fantastically floral celebration.

The Bridal House of Cornwall is an elegant, beautiful space with a dreamy ethereal feel and is packed full of stunning designer gowns just waiting for you to come and try on! The Bridal House strongly believe that every lady needs the opportunity to get a good walk and feel for their selected dresses, so often you are left on a podium unable to walk around and get a feel for how your gown is to walk in. Like the sound of it? then book in for a fitting! Once you’ve found your dress, all your wedding planning starts to come together as you visualise how you will look on the day. Choose transport that matches your theme and makes your day magical - be that a sleek red and roaring Ferrari or classic and vintage Rolls-Royce. SARAH & TIM
SEASIDE FUN Sarah and Tim chose to get married by the sea, as Sarah grew up in Cornwall and not only does it hold a very special place in her heart, but she wanted to show all of her friends and family just how beautiful Cornwall is. The St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa was a natural choice – “The perfect place to showcase everything that is great about Cornwall. It was great to have photos on the beach and have the stunning views as the back drop for our wedding breakfast.” They chose a nautical theme, in keeping with the location, with special touches to perfectly complement their day. Instead of a guestbook, guests were handed out seaside postcards and one of their favourite touches was a home-made photobooth with deck chairs and lots of seaside themed props – “We live in London and Tim is from Essex, so lots of our friends were travelling down to Cornwall, therefore we wanted to offer something different.”
52
A big part of their day was the entertainment, during the reception drinks they had Strike Sound, an amazing Cornish choir and for the evening entertainment, they had the awesome band ‘Keiko Rise.’ Their friends and family still talk about how amazing they were. Their advice to other couples planning their day is “enjoy the process, let the venue take control of the details on the day and just enjoy it. Music is a huge part of the day; choose the right band or DJ that suits your wedding party to create the right atmosphere.”

CLAIRE & MARCUS
ALL THINGS NAUTICAL Marcus set the bar high by proposing on the beach in Weymouth, watching the sun set with a bottle of Champagne. They even bought a picture from a local art gallery of the spot where she said “yes”. They chose to get married by the sea as Claire had always wanted a beach wedding, originally somewhere in the Caribbean, but who needed to travel across the Atlantic when the beaches are so beautiful in St Ives! Their theme was “all things nautical”, with a beach hut wedding cake and table names as captain’s and pirates, they even provided fancy dress props for their evening reception. They had a surf board with 'Just Married' printed on the back to walk out of the ceremony with, and then had baskets of flip flops ready for their guests to join us on the beach for some photos. Their place cards were rock with their names in, made in their wedding colours of yellow and blue and they even provided a treasure chest of
sweets. Their flowers were Blue Hydrangeas to remind them of Cornwall and they chose Mini Cornish hand-made pasties as canapés, along with an ice cream bike, 3 course menu with an additional sorbet course - all Cornish themed. They even enjoyed a minimoon touring Cornwall the week after the wedding. Another special touch was a table set up with photos of family that are sadly no longer with us, simply saying "wish they were here..." Their advice, “The devil is in the detail …and always have a back-up plan!”

BETH & NICK
ST IVES DREAMING Beth & Nick met at university, where they were both studying the same course. He proposed one rainy, windy morning in November when they went for a walk across the sand dunes at Gwithian. They stopped to admire the view across to St Ives & Nick pulled out a ring & 'popped' the question. They chose to get married by the sea as they wanted to share the spectacular coastline & beautiful town of St Ives with their friends & family. St Ives is their favourite place in Cornwall and their favourite moment of the day was “having photographs on Porthminster Beach, with our Best men & Bridesmaids”. Their table names were named after sporting venues, as they are both PE teachers, and their colour theme was white & grass green. They chose locally grown & freshly cut flowers from ‘Cornish Cutting Garden’, with flowers & grasses of white & green.
54
They chose to personalise their menu. “We had mojito's as our welcome drinks with tubs of Moomaid ice cream. For the wedding breakfast we chose an antipasti starter followed by a folk buffet & cream tea.” Their advice for couples planning their own wedding, “make your day personal to you, but don't spend too long debating over little things because on the day you won't notice them.”

CAMPER VAN COASTAL COOL Alex and Lucy shared their first kiss at the local school disco! However, it wasn't until the age of 29 that Alex invited Lucy as a friend on Facebook; they messaged each other and arranged their first date. The rest they say is history! Following their engagement Lucy & Alex both agreed that their ideal wedding would be by the Seaside. Both shared a love for the sea air and going to the beach, so spending the New Year in St Ives following their engagement prompted their decision to get married at the St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa. The hotel seemed like the perfect choice for the relaxed wedding of their dreams. The one keepsake you have on top of the wonderful memories of the day is the photos, and they knew that St Ives – with its unique lighting and stunning beaches – would provide the perfect backdrop. Their theme was a relaxed seaside theme with shells and tied in their mutual love of camper vans. Alex surprised Lucy on the day with a camper van cake on the top tier with both Lucy and Alex's heads poking out of each of the windows! In keeping with their fondness for camper vans, a cream camper van named "Juliet" was hired through VW Hire in Carbis Bay to take
the Bridal Party to the wedding and Lucy and Alex through the cobbled streets for photos following the ceremony. To keep the nephews happy (and a lot of the adults too!) Lucy & Alex also set up a vintage style sweetie table which went down a treat! Flip Flops – imprinted with "Lucy & Alex, 16th September 2012" were also handed out to guests for beach. The whole day came together just perfectly to make it the wedding Lucy & Alex had dreamt of and choosing just one favourite moment is impossible! “Everything was perfect; the ceremony room and views over the sea with the hazy sunshine, drinks on the hotel Terrace with Guests, photos on the Pier followed by photos on the beach with our Guests in the stunning St Ives sunshine and Pervaiz (our photographer) making us all laugh and feel relaxed; a beautifully decorated room where hotel staff had transformed our vision into reality, food to die for, and the best party we've ever had with all our closest friends and family on the evening. In the words of our guests "A Magical Day which we want to do all over again".
Following the wedding and as a wedding gift from Alex's Mom and Step-Dad, Lucy and Alex spent a week in a small cottage on the Digey in St Ives. It seemed wrong to be leaving such a beautiful place to honeymoon elsewhere when St Ives and the surrounding area had so much to offer. As part of the week, Alex surprised Lucy with a trip across to the Scilly Isles, travelling across on a helicopter from Penzance, where they spent a night on St Mary's and took a boat trip around the Isles to see the seals.

VASHTI & KAREN
VINTAGE BEACH Karen had planned to propose to Vashti on a holiday to Thailand, but was so excited after returning from deployment that she popped the question at home, and it was perfect. They were straight on the phone spreading the great news, and before they knew it the big day had arrived. They chose to get married by the sea, as they couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else! Vashti is from Cornwall and Karen is in the Navy, so the sea has always played a massive part in their lives. They decided to opt for a ‘vintage beach’ concept, not too tied down by a theme they both liked what they saw with this in mind. Special touches included a sword arch and get a flying visit during training from a Merlin helicopter and a Seaking helicopter after their ceremony at Pendennis, which was amazing! Their place names were on pebbles collected from local beaches, and their favours were little bags of personalised M&M's, with a six colour rainbow cake!

Their day was perfect, “we felt so much love and happiness for us from everyone”. Their ceremony was beautiful, intimate and just perfect, and they were able to take everyone down to a nearly deserted Porthminster Beach under a clear blue sky for photos, which was just brilliant. Their advice to those planning their special day, “try to enjoy the planning and trust the experts (florists, photographers, venue staff etc...) as they have so much experience that if you choose the right ones it will all be perfect!”

TONIA & STEVEN
VINTAGE CHIC Tonia and Steven were living in a house share 6 years ago, with 2 other single girls. One of their house mates met someone through work who also had a couple of single mates. So a poker evening was arranged for the 3 guys and 3 girls to get together, and the rest is history! He then proposed on holiday in Helsinki sitting next to the harbour of frozen sea. Steve is from Hampshire, where they now live, so the draw of Tonia’s Cornish roots was the reason for choosing Cornwall. They wanted to share the best it has to offer, with many of their guests from 'up country', and St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa was the perfect choice. The photos on the beach were one of the highlights of the day.
the day was a vintage bus journey from Gulval church to St Ives. The buses were brilliant, as people in St Ives waved as they drove past. The couple opted for a set menu, with a couple of tweaks – mini scones and cream for pud, with pasties in the evening. After a perfect day, they then jetted off to Vietnam - travelling in 5 star style from north to south over two weeks, including a cruise on Ha Long bay, luxury beach side spa retreat and a very memorable overnight train journey through central Vietnam.

The theme was vintage, which inspired the dress choice as well as the décor, and the flowers were based on a palette of pinks with David Austin roses and hydrangeas. One of the most memorable parts of
