Alumni Testimonials Stephanie Conklin Class of 2016 Vet Tech
Stephanie says that Harcum gave her a second chance. When she applied to the Veterinary Technology program, she held a bachelor’s degree and had a fulltime job, adding, “but something didn’t feel right.” For as long as she can remember, the one constant in her life has been her love of animals, and she’s always wanted to help them. She decided to make a change and apply to Harcum. She will be forever thankful that Harcum took a chance and accepted her into the program. She says, “Harcum has allowed me to move towards being the person that I hoped I could be.” Stephanie is working in her field at VRC Specialty Hospital, and will also work part-time in the Harcum Vet Tech program.
Robert Schmilewske
Class of 2013 Physical Therapist Assistant Hatfield, Pennsylvania native Robert Schmilewske served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for six years with two tours of duty in Iraq. The North Penn High School graduate was discharged and living in Florida, taking classes in physical therapy assisting when he had to return to Pennsylvania unexpectedly. Back home, Robert found that Harcum had the PTA program he wanted. Loving sports (particularly soccer, rugby and basketball), he chose sports rehabilitation as a career. “Harcum’s PTA program prepared me well and it’s been an eyeopening experience working at the clinical sites. Because of my Harcum degree, I am employed at Saint Joseph’s Villa, a skilled nursing facility, as a PTA.”
Brianna McCall
Class of 2016 Early Childhood Education “I chose to major in Early Childhood Education, which helped me in my quest for finding what I really want to do in life.” Brianna wanted to make a difference in someone’s life; and she believed teaching young children was a great way to do that. Her professors at Harcum really encouraged her to do her best. Because of their dedication, encouragement, and expectations, she was academically successful and offered multiple academic scholarships, choosing to continue her education at Chestnut Hill College. Harcum has exposed her to many opportunities which has expanded her horizon and helped her develop skills and talents that she had no idea that were in her. In her words, Harcum is truly “The College of Possibilities.”
Erika Taylor
Class of 2016 Interior Design What Erika liked most about Harcum was her program director, Heidi Techner. She is the reason Erika first decided to become a student. She was working full-time and had an almost one-year-old son and a four-year-old son. Life was already hectic, but Ms. Techner made her transition to a student a smooth one. She also liked the fact that the Interior Design Program is fairly small and that they all have become like a family. She plans on doing something in residential design or 3D design with a firm or designer for a year or two. After that, she is going to start her own business. Her most memorable moment was her very first presentation. She wasn’t ready for the criticism she received. It taught her to have tougher skin and to really listen, to be the best designer she can be.
