Real Pigeons Fight Crime Ever wonder why pigeons always act so weird? It’s because they’re out there chasing the bad guys and saving your butts! Welcome to REAL PIGEONS: a brand-new, hilariously silly illustrated series about the secret lives of crime-fighting city pigeons. Did you know your city is protected by a secret squad of crime-fighting pigeons? It's true! Where does The Girls fit? The Girls tells a story of the friendship of four girls over the course of their lives. Through the good times, like winning first prize at the science fair or performing on stage, and through the bad times, like getting a failing grade at school or coming last in school fun run. This is a story reminiscent of beloved coming of age classics like The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Now and Then and Stand By Me, but presented in a gorgeous picture-book package for a new generation. Full of beautiful touching moments of female friendship, The Girls, is bound to capture hearts with it’s realistic representation of girls today; their individualities, complexities and the similarities that helps bind them together. Perfect for young girls everywhere, The Girls will be an instant family-favourite!

Ottilie Colter and the Narroway Hunt In the most thrilling fantasy of the year, a young girl must pretend to be a boy to rescue her brother from a secret order of monster hunters. Ottilie Colter and her brother, Gully, have always fended for themselves. So when Gully goes missing one night, Ottilie sets out to find him – and soon makes a horrible discovery. Gully has been forcibly recruited by the Narroway Hunt, a secretive maleonly organisation that hunts savage, blight-spreading monsters called ‘dredretches’. Disguising herself as a boy, Ottilie infiltrates the Hunt – but quickly realises that taking her brother home won't be easy. Trapped in the heart of the dredretch-infested Narroway, it's impossibly dangerous for them to leave. But as she trains to become a Huntsman alongside her brother, hoping for a chance to escape, how long can she keep her true identity a secret? From Rhiannon Williams, the FIRST EVER middle-grade winner of the Ampersand Prize, comes book one in this bewitching trilogy about friendship, bravery and having the courage to do what’s right.

Get to know Ampersand Prize-winner Rhiannon Williams HGE: What have you been up to since winning the Ampersand Prize? I recently finished the first draft of the second book in the trilogy, and I’ve just started writing the third, which I’m very excited about. I really love working on first drafts, so I’m in my happy place right now. HGE: What inspired the idea for Ottilie Colter and the Narroway Hunt? I had been wanting to write an adventure like this for a long time. I knew the protagonist would be female and I wanted her out in the wilderness doing fantastic things like flying and hunting monsters, but beyond that, I didn’t know much. HGE: What is your writing process like? I don’t plan a lot at the beginning. It makes me feel trapped. I’m often planning as I go. With this story, I saw the world first, or a specific part of the world. Once I had a perfect image of that, Ottilie just fell out of the sky. Before that moment, she felt like a memory, as if I knew her but couldn’t remember anything about her. HGE: How long did it take you to write? It’s taken around two years. I wrote the manuscript that I submitted for the Ampersand Prize in a year. After that, there was a fairly large gap and lots of wishing on stars. Then, the editing process with the fantastic HGE team took most of 2017. HGE: What parts of writing was the easiest? And hardest? The easiest part was the very first draft. It was messy and fun and I loved writing it. I’m not sure about the hardest. There have been difficult moments throughout the entire process. I’ve had plenty of bad days when I felt like my imagination had dried up or I lacked the intelligence to write anything worthy of sharing. Luckily the good days far outnumbered the bad.
