Year 3 , Design Studio
The growth of metropolitan cities depends on the facilities provided for its inhabitants and how these facilities uplift the surrounding urban spaces. Stadiums are one such integral part of any city. They entwine people from different cultural backgrounds all over the world by using sports as the key element. One such sport is tennis , for which this proposed stadium is built for. Located in chennai, this new stadium would be a new landmark for this growing city.

Tennis stadium | Site Plan
Site plan
The backbone of Chennai city is its public transport system that connects its people to all places in the city. The stadium is planned in one such well connected location, Tharamani. Biomimicry is the process of imparting the functional and spatial characteristics of bioorganisms. The thought of a jellyfish flowing through spaces endlessly depicts a sports person’s journey. The the stadium is designed based on the systematical functioning of jellyfish.
Map showing the nearest bus and rail transport
Food and water are important for survival on this planet. but jellyfish being an exception feeds and excretes water through the same organ, which is similar to the stadium in which the people visiting it are the ones that give life to it. Like water, the people approach the stadium radially to reach the vomitoriums and exit through the same. Transparent with a few spots, the skin of the stadium resembles the epidermis of the jellyfish. The concrete blocks play with light and shadow inside the stadium.

Tennis stadium | Site Developement
The spectator use zones in the site are shown. The access points to the stadium are in a radial arrangement.
Spectator parking is divide into two zones to regulate the traffic and the flow of vehicles during peak hours.
VVIP and VIP person access to the stadium is separated from the public to provide them privacy and security .
The player entry and exit to stadium and practice courts is secluded from rest of the stadium for safety.
Practice courts are given separate access and placed in such a manner to avoid intruders during practice.
Ample open green spaces are provided all across the site and are radial along the outer concourse.
Ferrocement blocks , casted as circles are provided as the outermost layer.
Fibreglass fabric, which is translucent , envelopes the skeletal structure.
Thin layer of steel mesh throughout the perimeter holds the skin stable.
Steel box sections with trusses and ribs in the centre acts as the load bearing skeletal structure of the skin.
The three tier built portion of the stadium surrounding which the skin is provided.

02 Along The Line SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE Year 3 , Design Studio
The first step towards architectural education begins at college level. The spatial organisation, the way their education atmosphere revovles , the environmental impact the building has and the nuances of the built and unbuilt spaces inspire the young minds to think and pave way for a better society. Most importantly, sharing and discussing is an integral part of the curriculum and the proposed school of architecture is built with interaction as its base.

School of Architecture | Site Plan
Site plan
Taking interaction between students as the core element of architecture course, the campus in designed with ample gathering spaces.
The rectangular module is repeated.
The central space is a courtyard and the macro-level interaction space.
The blocks are arranged to enable free air flow inside.
Staff rooms and workshops are centrally placed for overall monitoring.
Common place inbetween the classrooms are made as balconies.
Balconies serve are micro level interaction spaces between every studio.
As a starting point of the design process, a noise level analysis was made, based on which the various functional spaces were arranged. Near the main road where the noise decibel is highest, entry and parking is provided as it can act as a buffer as distance is inversely propotional. Every element in the design has its own unique character; Inspired from the De Stijl movement, Colors: red, blue, yellow, white and black are used to bring out the individuality of structural elements in the campus. De Stijl has had different variations through the years, but the movement started by architect Piet Mondrain emphasizes on the use of only vertical and horizontal lines.

The main block is centrally placed which enables easy access. Hostel which requires a calm surrounding is placed at the farthest end. The main block where the activity level is the highest is provided with interaction spaces at micro and macro levels. To make the central courtyard a bustling space,a wide gallery is provided, where students can discuss and the mid landing of the gallery acts as an exhibition space for the public and inmates.

03 Spatial Notions PROPEL OFFICE MODEL
Internship , KSM Architecture
Spaces can be felt and can be understood better when they are envisioned three dimensionally. A more conventional yet better way of expressing spaces and their uniqueness is by making a physical model. This model was made for the proposed office area of propel industries as a part of the internship program at KSM Architecture.
18
Propel Office | Physical Model
Propel industry is engaged in stone shaping field. The client’s requirement was to design a climate responsive office complex abutting an existing office building.
The proposed office for propel industries is horizontally spread instead of vertical developement and has abundant green cover and relaxing spaces. The proposed structures are stone cladded to represent their field of expertise.
Gargoyels that drain water from the roof.
the
Miyawaki trees to block visual connectivity of the office from the exterior areas.
Landscape edge along the exterior road.
Walkways have slab projection , which is finished with ISMB
There are two landscape berms , one at the entrance and one near the security block.

Stepping stones and waterbody adds more character to the space. Solar panels on the roofs to minimize electricity costs.
The admin block can be accessed by the landscape berm. Green roof is provided on one of the blocks.
04 Piece of Timber FURNITURE DESIGN
Internship , KSM Architecture
Maharishi Vidya Mandir , Periyamedu is an ongoing institutional project designed by KSM Architecture, for which the clients also wanted to use the recycled timber from construction remains in furniture. A part of it was to design the tables for admin blocked , which I was tasked with .The above image is the module for classroom table and desk.

03 Box IT !
IGBC Competition Year 2
The competition brief was to design a comfortable living space for construction workers which is low cost adaptable to all environmental conditions. Construction wokers are mostly migrant workers , who dont have a definite place to go after a days work. This proposal would give them a place to call ‘ Home’.

02 Common walls ROW HOUSE
Year 3 , Design Studio
The project was to design row houses having a view of the sea for people from middle income group. The key concept was to get a beautiful view of the sea from each house. Central gathering spaces like indoor play area, club house and swimming poll are provided for community activities.

Row House | Views | Site Plan

The above site model shows multiple amenities that are provided for the residents, taking good sea view and soothing vibes into consideration.
The site is located along the East Coast road in Chennai , Tamil Nadu. Being along the sea coast, the site has a serene atmosphere. The main challenge of the design was to provide all the houses with sea views. The design is done in such a way that the residents feel at peace living there along with other recreational facilities. Form evloution
Raised openings are provided in the roof of ground floor. This creates stack effect; causing hot air the raise up and exit while the cool air remains inside. House blocks at the same level block the sea view. Hence a row of houses are raised to stilt level to obtain sea view.
