Architecture College
Project : Semester : Location :
Campus design Fifth Kumbakonam,Tamil Nadu
The college is enclosed on three sides by the kelidem canal. The program was to design an architecture college for undergraduate and postgraduate studies with an hostel block. Taking interaction between students as the core element of architecture course, the campus in designed with ample gathering spaces.
Architecture college
As a starting point of the design process, a noise level analysis was made, based on which the various functional spaces were arranged. Near the main road where the noise decibel is highest, entry and parking is provided as it can act as a buffer as distance is inversely propotional. The main block is centrally placed which enables easy access. Hostel which requires a calm surrounding is placed at the farthest end. The main block where the activity level is the highest is provided with interaction spaces at micro and macro levels.

|Ideology Every element in the design has its own unique character; Inspired from the De Stijl movement,
|The larger central space is a courtyard which serves as the core, macro level interaction space.
Colors: red, blue, yellow, white and black are used to bring out the individuality of structural elements in the campus. De Stijl has had different variations through the years, but the movement started by architect Piet Mondrain emphasizes on the use of only vertical and horizontal lines.
|Staff rooms and workshops are centrally placed for overall control
The principle behind it is that every element in space has two characters to it. these two perpendicular lines would represent the balance of spaces. |Balconies serve are micro level interaction spaces between every studio.

The site is located along the East Coast road in Chennai , Tamil Nadu. Being along the sea coast, the site has a serene atmosphere. The main challenge of the design was to provide all the houses with sea views. The design is done in such a way that the residents feel at peace living there along with other recreational facilities.
