AN EVENING WITH RICKIE LEE JONES Two-time Grammy® Award-winner Rickie Lee Jones exploded onto the pop scene in 1978 and has made a career of fearlessly experimenting with her sound and persona. Rickie is both a character in the songs and the songwriter singing. She defies convention with her sometimes brazen sexuality and a mixed bag of jazz, rock, and what has come to be known as “confessional” songwriter performances. Jones’ live performances have reached a pinnacle of honesty and excellence rarely seen in others. Her latest album, The Devil You Know, is produced by Ben Harper and reimagines the music of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Neil Young, and more.

Five-time Grammy® Award-winning singersongwriter and 2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Mary Chapin Carpenter, will embark on a unique series of intimate, acoustic performances this summer. The tour marks Carpenter’s return to singing both timeless hits and deep cuts from her expansive and beloved 13-album catalog after performing with orchestras in 2014. Carpenter will be joined on stage by longtime friends Jon Carroll (piano) and Austin Nevins (guitars).

MERCY KILLERS In this new play by Michael Milligan, chronic illness, financial disaster, and the American health care system are explored as we watch the story of Joe unfold. A blue-collar mechanic with a red state perspective who staunchly believes in the American way of life, Joe prizes hard work, self-reliance and personal liberty. Deeply in love with his wife, he even enjoys their “nuclear arguments” on the dangers of too much Rush Limbaugh and not enough organic foods. Everything changes when she is diagnosed with cancer. Both a tender love story and unblinking look at health care in America, it moves audiences to share their stories and ideas – red, blue and beyond.”

WINTER’S EVE WITH LADY OF THE LAKE

916.608.6888

Lady of the Lake celebrates the fire of life with their contemporary Celtic-influenced music. Led by Lisa Lawson’s lyrical soprano, the group performs instrumental music and epic songs, highlighting cello, violin, and flute against rhythm guitar and drums and the sounds of harp and keyboard. Traditional favorites such as “The Red-Haired Boy” and “The Water is Wide” are interwoven with the Lawsons’ originals, including settings of poetry by Yeats, and tunes inspired by their own lives. Come celebrate the fire of light and life as we approach the Winter Solstice.

JOHN PRINE Ramblin Jack Elliot, Opening Some four decades since his remarkable debut, Grammy® Award-winning John Prine has stayed at the top of his game, both as a performer and songwriter. Honored at the Library of Congress by US Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, he’s been elevated from the annals of songwriters into the realm of bonafide American treasures. Long considered a “songwriter’s songwriter,” John Prine is a rare talent who writes the songs other songwriters would sell their souls for. Evidence of this is the long list of songwriters who have recorded gems from his extensive catalog, including Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Ben Harper, Joan Baez, and many others.

FOLSOM LAKE COLLEGE

WANT TO HELP THE CENTER WHILE HELPING YOURSELF TO A 15% DISCOUNT? Become a donor member now through a donation at the $150 level or higher and get 15% off your ticket purchases through August 31st to Center Presentations of touring artists and select Community Partner events. It’s part of our special Summer Donor Sale – a thank you to those making annual contributions to support all of the great shows, up close happening at the Harris Center. Donations can be made online at www.HarrisCenter.net or through the Harris Center ticket office at 916-608-6888.

YOUR GENEROUS DONATION CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE As we open our fifth season it’s safe to say the Harris Center has fully arrived. In fact, it’s hard to imagine the regional arts scene without it. Performances have been well received, ticket sales are strong, children are coming by bus to experience the magic of the arts during the day, and our community partners and the college’s educational programs are thriving in their new home. In general, the Harris Center has nestled comfortably into the daily life of the region. Thank you for your generous and enthusiastic support. But while attendance of the Harris Center has been excellent, ticket sales are but one side of the coin. As is common in the arts, relying on sales alone will not allow the Center to reach its full potential,

to be all that it can be for this community. Support to open the Center was generous, coming from state and local bond measures, and many donations from both individuals and businesses — but it must continue, and grow, for the Harris Center to evolve and thrive. To support the dream of a vibrant regional arts center for this community, please consider deepening your involvement with the Harris Center through an Annual Membership* donation or the naming of a seat (for you, or honoring someone you love). Other opportunities to support the Center are also available. Each donation makes a difference and is tax deductible** — and formal benefits grow at each level of giving. Benefits can include: •O pportunity to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public

• A 15% discount on tickets purchased by August 31 • Access to donor-only events and the Art of Wine Receptions • Advance tickets sales for Just Added shows Donate today, by going online at www.HarrisCenter.net, where donating can be done with the click of a button. For more information on ways to give visit www.HarrisCenter.net, or contact Sally Howard, Director of College Advancement, at 916-608-6643 or howards@flc.losrios.edu. * Annual Membership benefits are good for one year from the date of your gift. ** Fair market value of benefits provided may affect the portion of a gift which is tax deductible.
