HARRIS CENTER FOR THE ARTS

CHICAGO MARCH 3-6

SPRING 2016: CELEBRATING 5 YEARS OF GREAT SHOWS!

JULY

5TH ANNIVERSARY GALA In February, 2011 the Harris Center opened with the mission of enriching the lives of people throughout the capital region by providing venues and opportunities to experience artistic work, celebrate cultural traditions and participate in the creative process. Now, more than 1500 performance later, and with more than three quarter million visits, we’re well down the road of our artistic journey and it’s time for a celebration. This spring, in addition to our usual offerings featuring touring artists from around the world, the Center’s many community partners, and productions created by the ever inventive students and faculty of Folsom Lake College, we have five additional special events planned: • Fifth Anniversary Celebration Exhibit (January 15-March 13) • CHICAGO, The National Tour of The Hit Musical (March 3-6) • RAZZLE DAZZLE 5th Anniversary Reception (March 3) • Harris Center Open House (March 12)

CHICAGO: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse’s CHICAGO has everything that makes Broadway great: knockout dancing, a ripped-from-the-headlines story about fame and scandal and one show-stopping song after another. No wonder it’s been honored with six Tony Awards®, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations. And now the national tour of the longest-running American musical in Broadway history is coming to Folsom for 7 performances so you can see it as never before—up close in the intimate Harris Center.

THU, MAR 3; 8 PM FRI, MAR 4; 2 & 8 PM* SAT, MAR 5; 2 & 8 PM SUN, MAR 6; 1 & 7 PM $49-$79; Premium $89 10% Discount for Friday Matinee & Sunday Evening Single Tickets *Friday 8 PM Performance Sponsored by Wells Fargo

• Free Concert with The Jazz Ambassadors (March 23) We hope you will have a chance to participate in one or more of these special activities. As always, thank you for being part of the Harris Center’s success, and for all of the support and enthusiasm you have shown. The Center looks forward to further artistic adventures with you in the years ahead.

RAZZLE DAZZLE 5th Anniversary Reception Join this 1920s themed fun-filled evening with gourmet food and wine tasting featuring El Dorado County wineries and local restaurants, a silent auction, and more prior to the opening night performance of CHICAGO.

THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 5:30 PM Reception Tickets: $40 (CHICAGO tickets purchased separately) Proceeds benefit the Harris Center for the Arts.

Sacramento Baroque Soloists

HAPA HAPA just celebrated its 30th anniversary and is often described as the “sound of Maui.” Like the islands themselves, HAPA’s music is an amalgam of influences ranging from ancient Polynesian rhythms and genealogical chants to the strummed ballads of Portuguese fishermen and Mexican cowboys, and the inspired melodies and harmonies of the traditional church choirs of the early missionaries. Add a dose of American acoustic folk/rock, and you have what has been described as the “most exciting and beautiful contemporary Hawaiian music the world knows!”

A NIGHT IN VENICE Venice in the 18th century was best known as a center for revelry and high living, with Europeans travelling from afar to attend the theater, opera, and masked revelries of Carnival. In the midst of this extravagance, Antonio Vivaldi made his fame as a violinist and composer of concertos, opera, chamber music and church music. In their last concert of the season, Sacramento Baroque Soloists perform chamber concertos and trio sonatas of this influential composer.
