Roberto Fonseca

Salsa? Jazz? Funk? Soul? Cuban-born pianist, Roberto Fonseca combines all these styles and more. The greatest talent to emerge from Havana in recent years, his style is influenced by music and artists from all over the world, resulting in a sound that crosses boundaries, fuses traditions and is – well – just cool. He’s admired by such greats as Herbie Hancock, his compositions feature in a number of films, including 2008’s ‘Hancock’ and he’s got a style you won’t hear anywhere else. Give it a try. You won’t regret it. “A tour de force.. the lyricism of his playing recalls Herbie Hancock but he can animate the courtly dramas of Cuban tradition... a joyous poignant offering” The Observer

James Taylor Quartet

Since 1985, JTQ has been at the forefront of acid jazz, and possibly the only group to be lead from the Hammond Organ! Their live shows are legendary, featuring a mixture of original compositions and funky covers of jazz classics. As well as their own recordings, James Taylor and members of the quartet have collaborated with Tom Jones on the duets album Reload and featured on records by The Wonder Stuff, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues, Kingmaker and U2.

Our projects take place across the Harrogate District, including Ripon, Nidderdale and Boroughbridge. By working in harmony with schools, youth workers, Extended Schools Services and a range of other partners, we aim to enrich the lives of young people in all areas of the district. Musical Mums is a weekly singing group for teenage mums and babies that allows early years to access the benefits of music from a very early age, and offers relaxing, fun social time for young mothers. The project is now in its third year, and will soon be developing a new group in Catterick. Our longstanding world music programme, Global Villages, has brought international cultures to children in rural North Yorkshire, ranging from Indian classical music to Brazilian samba drumming and everything in between! This touring half term project aims to teach young people about world cultures through funky rhythms and unusual instruments. Divas & DJs is an urban music project that offers participants the chance to be a rock star! Young people can write their own songs, play instruments, DJ, MC, dance, mix computer music tracks and much more. The project culminates in a performance for family and friends where participants show off their new skills.
