Narrated by Nicholas Owen former Royal Correspondent for ITV News, Armonico Consort’s five-star Choir and Orchestra will revive one of the most epic days of the 20th Century.
Saturday 16th July Alexei Grynyuk (piano) Wesley Chapel Kiev-born pianist Alexei Grynyuk displayed tremendous interest in music from his early childhood and at just six years old started giving his first concerts. Equally at home in Classical, Romantic and Twentieth-Century repertoire, Grynyuk has been described by Le Figaro (Paris) as “master of transparent and sovereign touch…astonishing personality and absolute transcendental virtuosity”. He has already appeared at many of the world’s most renowned concert halls, including Wigmore Hall and the South Bank Centre in London, Salle Cortot & Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatoire, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and other prominent venues of Europe, United States, Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Morocco. “Sublime playing. Bonded by a musical consensus and shared vision, the Heathcliff Trio was founded in late 2020. Created from a decade-long collaboration between childhood friends Ashley Tong and Sebastian Kolin, who studied together at the Yehudi Menuhin School, they encountered Danish pianist, Jonathan Siahaan, upon completing their studies, whose resonating philosophy pronounced himself the final choice of a long-lasting search. The Heathcliff Trio recently won 1st prize in the 9th International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition with two additional special prizes including the best interpretation of a piece by Brahms. The Trio recently made their debut at Wigmore Hall for the final concert of The Parkhouse Award International Competition for Chamber Music.

The Amici Ensemble was originally formed in the 1980s to showcase the talents of professional musicians based in the region, and to demonstrate that great, high-quality orchestral music can be programmed locally without having to draw players from further afield. The players are traditionally drawn from the region’s larger professional orchestras including Opera North, the Halle and BBC Philharmonic, which ensures an incredibly high standard of performance. Whilst renowned for accompanying soloists and choirs, the orchestra are delighted to be returning to a more symphonic repertoire with a fitting close to the 2022 Harrogate Music Festival, conducted by our Music Festival Guest Curator, William Dutton.

Born in Argentina, pianist and composer Silas Bassa began his studies at the age of five, moving to Buenos Aires to study at the Conservatorio Nacional Superior de Musica with Aldo Antonganzzi from the age of 18. Silas currently resides in Paris taking lessons with Monique Deschaussées and continues to perform worldwide. In addition to mastering the traditional core piano repertoire, Silas is developing a reputation as a talented composer, working with a variety of different directors and choreographers across a range of mediums. Silas released his third album to great acclaim in 2020, with his albums previously having held the top spot on the French charts for contemporary classical music and selected by Radio France as one of the best albums of the year. Born in Wales, Ben studied with Sharon McKinley and Alexander Baillie before attending the Yehudi Menuhin School to study with Thomas Carroll. He received a Scholarship to study at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Louise Hopkins, also supported by Help Musicians UK and The Countess of Munster Trust. Whilst a student, he was a Concordia Foundation Artist, a Park Lane Group Artist, recipient of The Suggia Gift by Help Musicians UK and The David Goldman Award from The Worshipful Company of Musicians, as well as receiving their prestigious Silver Medal Award in 2020, nominated by the Guildhall School. “Plays with skill and panache”

Jo Harrop cut her teeth working with a host of legendary artists including Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart and Enrique Iglesias. Jo joins us in the Spiegeltent showcasing songs from her critically acclaimed album, The Heart Wants. Written and recorded over the last year when the world came to a sudden standstill in the wake of the pandemic, The Heart Wants is an album about love, life, and loss. One of the most unmistakable voices in British jazz, she received a raft of rapturous reviews for her debut Weathering The Storm, The Guardian dubbed it ‘a little gem of an album: simple, modest and perfect,’ whilst BBC 6 Music’s Iggy Pop fell in love with her voice, calling her ‘a very fine jazz singer.” Beyond the mellifluous perfection ofher chocolate and cream voice there is always a beautifully bruised intimacy at the very heart of Jo Harrop’s music. Frederic has performed across the world, both as soloist and chamber musician. Recent engagements include residencies at the Davos Festival (2018, 2019 and 2020), as well as recitals at Festival Puplinge Classique (Geneva), St James’ Piccadilly (London), and many other venues across the UK and Europe. He studied with Andrew Ball at the Royal College of Music and with Ian Fountain at the Royal Academy of Music and was a scholar and prize-winner at both institutions. His extraordinary musicality has won him the Cambridge University Musical Society Concerto Competition and, in 2020, the London International Guitar Competition.. At 12 years old, Kevin was talent-scouted by The Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK via his YouTube channel, where he was awarded a grant by The Rolling Stones to study at the prestigious music school as their first Asian guitarist.
