A R H T AO E RG Summer ‘24 SEASON GUIDE City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra | Oddsocks Braimah Kanneh-Mason | Jo Harrop | Children’s Fesval Young Musicians | Gypsy Queens | Apollo5 by Candlelight Mica Sefia | Punjabi Roots | House of Burlesque | Divina de Campo
Welcome to the 2024 Harrogate International Festivals Summer Season…
It’s that time of year when we launch our summer season programme and invite you all to join us on another great Festival adventure.
The 2024 season includes festivals within festivals as we welcome back the Spiegeltent for the busiest programme ever, as this golden venue beams into town; the Children’s Festival stretches everything from brains to toes and the Harrogate Music Festival welcomes the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for the Grand Opening Concert; Berwins Salon North pops up for some intellectual stimulation for the post-clubbing generation and the most prestigious crime festival in the world; the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival brings authors and readers from around the world to celebrate their craft in Harrogate.
Unpack these festivals a little more and you’ll find a whole lot more to explore. The Gildas Quartet are performing in surround sound as you can move around during the concert and see how the music sounds from anywhere in the space. Esther Abrami is an acclaimed, award-winning violinist using social media as a content creator to reach millions of people attracting new audiences to classical music, and The Maxwell Quartet demonstrate how folk is the foundation of classical music. Other highlights include the Young Musician Series as well as candlelit concerts with Apollo5 and a finale that includes Plínio Fernandes and Braimah Kanneh-Mason coming to Harrogate with their unique collaboration which has sold out across Europe.
The Spiegeltent hosts high camp with Divina de Campo, luxe jazz
with Ronnie Scott’s favourite Jo Harrop, whilst rising star Mica Sefia has her debut in Harrogate. Looking to get on the dancefloor?
Punjabi Roots brings bhangra and bangers to town for an east meets west party, the Gypsy Queens return bringing their usual bon viveur, and the House of Burlesque tease us with their new inimitable show. During the day the Spiegeltent is all about the good life with sound baths, yoga, free lunchtime concerts and bring your own vinyl events.
This year our finale is the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, with headliners from around the world landing here in Harrogate. Peter James, Chris Carter, Dorothy Koomson and Richard Osman all take to the stage, alongside Abir Mukherjee, Vaseem Khan and Elly Griffiths. With over 100 programmed authors on site, you can guarantee to find your favourite author enjoying a pint at the bar and discover a whole new reading list from the on-site bookshop.
This year is so busy it is impossible to unpack our festivals in just a few paragraphs, so we hope you find much to inspire and delight within these pages for the summer ahead. Don’t forget buying a ticket makes a huge difference to our ability to bring events to town, so do pass on a copy of the brochure to your friends too!
See you in summer!
