Market details 02. MARKET DETAILS • Movement patterns Different patterns were observed on site between noon to evening(12 pm-7 pm ) People tend to move in the lanes between the shops and the stationary vendors. Also the spaces between the vendors and road 2 wheelers move on the road and park on the left side of the road from darwaza and spaces between the 2 vendor stalls 3 wheeler move on the road and tend to pause or stop to collect customers at the junction. This is because the people move in the market in the inner lanes and come on the road at junction or teen darwaza

When MVS ,VS and shop comes, usually parking spaces are formed spaces where VS and shops are there , likely gathering spaces are formed MVS ,VS and shops are mostly formed near junction, consumers and transit are formed. While near darwaza resting spaces are formed MVS ,VS and shops are the spaces where MV stops for a few movement , a variety activities takes place due to that. MV and shops are less in number such combinations are the area which attracts vehicles for parking Where Vs are found sitting under the darwaza , on one side of the wall, using thas a support while other side is unusually parking of vehicles and MVS done This orientation is generally found near landmarks like masjid , entrance of Ballantine haveli, patch between Ballantine haveli and tutorial market , as these spaces have large footfall

territory 1. Using bamboo to give support to shade 2. Vendors cover the area around the tree and it act as physical demarcation between two shops 3. Vendors arrange their display products in such a way that it creates boundaries for them. 4. Similarly like tree they use electric pole and street light poles to demarcate tier area 5. Each vendor has its own shade to demarcate his area 6. The ramp in front of the shop make entry for costumers and to prevent street vendors to block their front 7. The change in paving's is also an demarcation method. 8. Stool arrangement 9. Same situation of that of column and trees . 10. In order to raise the platform they claim their space. 11. Vendor park their vehicles in front of their shop to prevent street vendor to come in tier front. 12. Push carts and khatias are arranged to divide the area.

Territory • The vendors use elements to mark their territory. They serve as spatial markers. Their vending position and arrangement imply how territory is demarcated
• Physical components create a level d ifferenc e thus generating a notion of space.
• Their seating arrangement also acts as spatial marker allowing to differentiate one vendor from another.

Jamalpur vegetable market Every morning 3 to 5, they arrive in flocks. Rolling out their chatai, buying fresh produce for the day from the waiting tempos, their days are busy and they have little time to talk. From the little that we collected over a course of interviews we identified two types of issues. One being the issues that they realise and understand (like the need for a dedicated space), the other being issues that they do not necessarily recognise as issues (garbage and hygiene). Then there were other concerns that affected the market like; congestion caused by trucks (although sometimes this was also an advantage), the police officer harassing them for money and their constant clash with other vendors on matters of territory. The truck traffic, no matter how inconvenient is in fact extremely essential to the functioning of the inner as well as the outer markets
The Chaiwala has set up his stall using the fence as back support. He has spread all his paraphernalia along the fence.

The vendors stuff mostly consists of crates, boxes, umbrella, weighing scale and their push carts or chatais.
Trucks line up to enter the APMC building causing yet another traffic jam.
The vendors leave a lot of space between the building and their two rows as well. It is in this spots that waste accumulates so often.

The space in front of shops is often used as a loading – unloading / segregating space.
Vehicles line up as they wait for the trucks to go in the APMC market – one of our main reasons for congestion
the morning.

Process 1.
Vendors on the back row as well s the ones at the corner are affected. Garbage will collected at the back
2.
Vendors on three edges apart from the front edge are affected
3.
It is too rigid in a space. It directs too much how the vendors are arranged. It doesn’t allow flexibility
4.
Maximum space is not utilised .besides, there is no point in giving l shaped otla. The back edge becomes redundant
5.
Here we did not provide any otlas, however we realised that giving no organization won’t work
6.
Vendors sitting on the last row have no visibility at all
7.
Most of the otla goes un used only the corners have full visibility

Restaurant
the vendors will be removed from the streets and instead be accommodated in such a manner that they are apart in the APMC Abuilding Spill over of the vendor onto the road has to be prevented in any manner possible. For this a different access to the market is given behind the building ,where legitimate parking for the market –goers is used as an incentive For this purpose the shops will be removed and rebuilt on the under used left side of the building Back edge of the building will be made more active so that back row of otlas are not in neglect and utilised properly The chowk space created by the shops and the building is strictly used for social and interactive purposes(however we are anticipating that some form of vending will be carried along the edge of APMC building) During the early morning hours when the loading unloading activities are at its peak, the chowk can become a segregating space, space for gathering goods, for rickshaw to come in and easily load unload There will be a ‘Pit’ lining the road edge with designated entry spots from where pedestrians can entre the market
