PACKAGING INSPIRED BY NATURE Oysters are aquatic creatures which produce pearl, oysters look and give the feeling of protection and being delicate. They look ugly on the outside but are protecting something as precious as a pearl inside. Because of its elegant yet strong nature I picket the oyster for my packaging. This was a 2 day class project to understand packaging. This finger ring box was designed in such a way that the ring collapses and hides in the base when the box is shut, when the box is opened, it stands up and appears like a blooming flower. The box itself is very thin and hence can be easily carried in the wallet or purse.

CLORAP - PROMOTES CLOTH WRAPPING FOR GIFTS ETC. INSTEAD OF PAPER. All products are made of 100% cotton, most of the products are remains of cloth from mall paper used is also recycled paper and Hati Chap paper. The packaged CLORAP also contains a instruction booklet on how to use the cloth for gift wrapping. Each box of CLORAP contains a instruction booklet which helps the customer understand the product. The book is 10 cm by 10 cm. in size It has illustrations and pictures showing different kinds of wrappings. This booklet is also printed on recycled paper.
BOHEMIAN MENU CARDS & MERCHANDISE The menu cards were designed in such a way that the main inserts could be printed on a normal ink jet printer and inserted into the album like menu card. Each spread of the menu card represented one kind of Bohemian. Sugar sachets, stationary, valet tickets and match box were designed keeping in mind the bohemian spirit. They had a ‘vintage bohemians with a erotic sense of humour’ feel.

CHAOS IS AN ILLUSION...ORDER IS THE REALITY A basic colour composition depicting the Malleswaram market, it shows how a market place looks a chaos when you see it 8from far but in reality order exists, and 2 this order is beyond our understanding. The form I used is a apostrophes to denote conversations, people and the noise there.

RETAIL RESEARCH ON COCONUT SHELL CRAFT A 2 week college course in which new products were developed using coconut shell to position the craft in the retail scenario. Products life lamp shades, office stationary and water pitchers were created. This entire research and development project was documented as a 50 page booklet.

TYPOGRAPHY - THE BRAND THROUGH TYPE The newspaper brand Bangalore Mirror was transformed into a incense stick brand. The entire font was developed in 2 weeks. The L and the I in the name are graphical representation of the aromatic smoke and the incense stick. The entire name was given a fluid yet readable attitude.

Every seven years, designer Stefan Sagmeister takes a sabbatical for one year. He doesn’t accept any clients or new projects. Instead he spends the 12 months developing independent projects he would not have had time to pursue, had his studio been open. He decided to take these year-long breaks after realizing that his design work was becoming adaptive.

Levi's, Button Fly This poster depicts a regular housefly in high resolution detail. The whole illustration consists of many many Levi's Buttons, thus it becomes the original Button Fly. Obviously. The poster is printed with special printing techniques: The background is a dark silver and the button graphics are foil stamped with an eye catching and extravagant rainbow foil.
I obsess over my work & think that a number of my better projects came out of such an obsession.

POSTER - STEFAN SAGMEISTER This poster was designed as a class Project. It was inspired by Stefan Sagmeister. He is a graphic designer and has a very different work environment. He uses very strong graphic elements and white space. This poster aptly depicts him and his work culture. It also show cases his colourful endeavors and completed projects.

CATS
Cats are known as the Egyptian goddesses
Cats spend 2/3 of every day sleeping.
Cats are moody creatures of nature, they are self sufficient. They symbolise feminism and elegance. Cats elevate their owners moods by purring or sitting on their laps. Cats usually rub against the owners legs to show affection. FORM The final form was evolved from the fact that cats are extremely feminine. The top part of the form is pointy and sharp with the significant alert ears while the bottom is come circular and heavy. The entire form has a smooth curve to bring in the feminism. The neck is thin because generally cats are held by their neck.
A cat can Jump up to three times its own height. Cats use the angle of the sunlight to find their way back home. The hooked papillae on Cat’s tongue act like a hairbrush to help clean and groom

PRODUCT The final product was a hot water bottle. Cats make you feel comfortable and warm like a hot water bottle. They also strategically sit on places like the lap, neck, chest and back, just like this hot bag.
MAU is the scientific name of a Egyptian cat, mau also means warm in marathi. The ‘A’ in the name forms the tail of the cat. The sharp serifs of the font signify the edgy characteristic of a cat along with following the ears of the form.

PACKAGING FOR BIDRIWARE - Cauvery crafts Cauvery has a lot of foreign clients as well as the tourists who like to buy souvenir. Even though Bidriware is a unique craft and is quite expensive people think its not worth the money because of its display and packaging. The packaging is completely glue less and very economical. The product has been screen printed and simply dye cut. All the paper used in handmade paper and recycled paper. The illustrations were hand drawn and later digitised.

DISPLAY STANDS Display stands made out of Bamboo These were classroom assignments, the objective was to design a display unit using Bamboo. The entire process of splitting, joining, cutting and cleaning bamboo was learnt in this exercise.
OUTDOOR FURNITURE Coffee table made completely out of bamboo. 12 feet long bamboo strips were manually bent to form the shape of each table cum chair. This is a modular unit, single piece can be used as a bench and three or more can be attached to make a free standing table.

WINDOW DISPLAY FOR LOUIE PHILLIPE Inspiration was taken from the patterns of light and shadow that are formed on the river Thames because of the illuminated London Bridge at dusk. The high contrast vividly brings out the patters and creates textures on the floor of the display window. The bold silhouettes of iconic structures of England on the back give it a strong look. The design was adopted for windows of different sizes ie. 12 feet , 8 feet and 4 feet. respectively

RETAIL FURNITURE FOR CHANNAPATNA TOYS Channapatna toys are a particular form of wooden toys (and dolls) that are manufactured in the town of Channapatna in the Bangalore. With the advent of the modern electronic toys and cheap Chinese toys the humble wooden toys are unable to withstand the competition. The established toy retail stores are unwilling to keep these toys in their stores. Apart from the stores in Channapatna taluk the toys are available in the city only during exhibitions.

RETAIL FURNITURE FOR CHANNAPATNA TOYS Be it these stores or the exhibition counters nothing is done to display the Channapatna toys in an appealing manner. The toys are displayed flatly on the table. There is no product segregation, all products placed together in one basket. The idea is to develop a self standing unit which a vendor can keep open during the day and close during night time. Inspiration was taken from a candy store. Products were displayed according to the age group and its target audience.

MODULAR FURNITURE FOR A RESTAURANT The idea here was to create a space efficient modular furniture that can be placed in a small restaurant. The single piece of furniture which seats two people can be arranged in different ways to form different patterns and different seating arrangements.

SYSTEM DESIGN - STUDYING THE LIFECYCLE OF THE NEWSPAPER Studying the lifecycle of a newspaper from the beginnings to end. This involved understanding the design and print process, distribution, waste management and marketing. A strong point in our field work was the fact that a lot of material was wasted, hence we worked on a new material which was a combination of newspaper, cloth and natural resin. The resulting material was a stronger material with more flexibility and life. This material could easily be used in sound proofing, wall partitions etc.

SYSTEM DESIGN - PROPOSAL TO PHASE OUT PLASTIC BAGS The plastic bags lock moisture and hence reduce the life of the vegetables. As only one size of plastic bag is available, people use the same bag to buy smaller quantities as well. Plastic is not bio- degradable and is Non-renewable. Plastic also causes pollution, suffocation & environmental damage.
Newspaper is cheap and recyclable, It absorbs moisture and is environment friendly and its life is short. Its strength can be increased by increasing the number of plies. It is a good insulator. It increases the life of the vegetables by keeping them fresh. They are easy to dispose off
