What is a Progress Review Meeting? (PRM) The progress review meeting is not a disciplinary meeting. The purpose of the session is to enable a two way discussion to take place between a tutor and a student to explore ways of helping a student to move forward and progress on their course. Whilst it is not a disciplinary it is important to understand that a student is required to attend a progress review meeting if they have been requested to do so. The meeting should start by identifying and clarifying the concerns that led to the session being initiated. Then the student and the tutor should work through and explore potential solutions and possibly agree a strategy to help the student progress. A student might also be signposted to internal or external support. The Meeting will be recorded for reference. How is the Progress Review Meeting Initiated? A Progress Review Meeting can be initiated by a student or tutors by contacting them directly, The Student Advisor is happy to contact the tutor on the students’ behalf, if either have any concerns about course progression. A student may initiate a meeting if they have concerns about meeting assessment deadlines, attending an exam, or feels they need academic or study skills support etc. A tutor may initiate a meeting if a student shows a negative change in their performance; has a number of absences or provisionally fails a placement etc.
Who attends the Progress Review Meeting? While the Progress Review Meeting is usually only attended by the tutor and a student, the Programme Leader, or Head of School/Division, or Director of Studies may also be there to advise and offer suggestions. The Students’ Union recommends that for extra support you take a member of the Students’ Union Advice Service with you, or a friend.
