n life,” says Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, “you don’t get a second chance at a first impression.”

This Yoda-like truth bomb is what I’ve come to expect from the 49-yearold rapper, producer, and businessman over the past few years. He spits out sage, lyrical gangster-like advice in the same way he makes gleeful digs at his enemies. Since the start of his music career — when he debuted his first studio album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2003 — he has never been anything other than his most authentic self.

As such, there’s a lot to love about Jackson. In my opinion, some of his most winning attributes are his unflinching honesty, inherent authenticity, willingness to take strategic risks, and the confidence in knowing that, career-wise, he can try whatever the hell he wants. The latter is the reason why I’m sitting down with him today. Jackson wanted to write a caper heist, so he wrote a caper heist. And that’s that.

Although the genre is new to him, he’s well-versed in the art of writing, with releases such as the 2012 workout book Formula 50; his 2011 YA novel Playground; the 2005 memoir From Pieces to Weight; and the accompanying 50 x 50: 50 Cent in His Own Words in 2007. In addition to co-authoring a number of novels for G-Unit Books, an imprint he launched in 2007 in partnership with MTV Books, he made the New York Times’ Best Seller list several times already for self-help books like 2009’s The 50th Law: Overcoming Adversity Through Fearlessness, and 2020’s Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter. In both cases, he set out to learn something. For example, after meeting his The 50th Law coauthor Robert Greene in person, he discovered parallels between his current existence and the past, discovering that all humans are habit-forming and regimented. In having this epiphany, he felt like he had secured greater knowledge and, as we all know, knowledge is power. His most recent effort, Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter, taught him to bravely embrace the past by sharing personal life lessons and hard-earned advice on how to embrace change and achieve a comeback, as he himself did.

“It was difficult for me to wrap my head around the idea of self-help, because I think the people who make those books think they’re experts. It didn’t become a good idea to me until I could talk about the mistakes that I made. And then, I felt like it’d be cool, because I recovered from a lot of things that were easy for me. Some of the things I went through would be harder for other people to recover from, but for me, it was fine. It’s like a relationship: when you invest too many emotions in it, you can’t recover from it. It changes your whole trajectory — you become like Taylor Swift. And that’s most artists — we can make prolific music from painful experiences. Whether it’s a breakup or Kanye’s car crash, or me being shot nine times, there are things that stand out about that person and their experience that they can draw from to create things that feel special to the public,” he notes.

But what exactly did he learn from the experience of writing The Accomplice, his seventh official release and first adult fiction novel, written specifically with the intention of a big screen adaptation? The answer: that in writing anything, particularly adult fiction, first impressions really do count. This is why he enlisted the help of established mystery writer Aaron Philip Clark, the author of the International Thriller Writers Award-nominated Trevor Finnegan series.

Together, for the first of a two-book with Amistad, an imprint of HarperCollins, the two joined forces to create what’s been described as a combination of S.A. Cosby’s “Southern Noir” crime fiction and Netflix’s highoctane, Emmy-winning series, Money Heist. The process was pretty painless and extremely simple for both: Jackson came up with the idea and Under Color of Law author Philip Clark executed it.

The results of that collaboration can be seen on September 3, when the pair introduce readers to New York-born, Texas-bred Nia Adams, the first Black female Texas Ranger, who encounters a major obstacle in Vietnamvet-turned-thief Desmond Bell, a man who steals the secrets of the rich and powerful and blackmails them for millions. When Bell steals from the Duchamps, the wealthiest family in the country, Adams’ investigation into the robbery threatens to expose him and the criminal enterprise he works for, but their cat-and-mouse game turns deadly as the Duchamps decide to kill both in order to protect their family’s secrets.

The concept — which Jackson developed specifically because he felt the need to introduce a strong, Black, female lead — definitely has film adaptation written all over it, which was the intention all along. The treatment is already done, he discloses, and he’s now speaking to screenwriters to help develop it — so watch this space. [In the interim, he’s also currently working on a sequel to Hustle Smarter, Hustle Harder.]

“Whether in TV, film, music, and certainly in books, I have always surrounded myself with people who understand a genre and push to make it fresh and innovative. The best thing about working with a pro like Aaron is knowing he can deliver. In that regard, our work is super collaborative, in the best sense of the word,” he says now.

“Books,” he adds, “especially fiction, allow me to do things I can’t do anywhere else. [That said] I enjoy the art of storytelling and creating iconic characters and situations that will get people talking.”

Fiddy has never had a problem with that. He’s like Loki in a way, unintentionally (or is it intentional?) causing trouble and poking the proverbial bear, never shying away from sharing how he really feels about anything or anyone, having been part of a plethora of public feuds with fellow big-name artists. But more often than not, people are talking about him for the right reasons — his countless business endeavors, his street smarts, and, of course, his music. He’s sold over 30 million albums worldwide, and won several awards, including a Grammy, a Primetime Emmy Award, 13 Billboard Music Awards, six World Music Awards, and three American Music Awards. He was ranked number 17 by Billboard on their “50 Greatest Rappers” list in 2023, as well as the sixth top artist of the 2000s decade.

Although he recorded his “debut” album, Power of the Dollar, for Columbia Records, he was shot before its release, which was then cancelled; he was subsequently released from the label. But then: his 2002 mixtape Guess Who’s Back was discovered by Eminem that same year. He then signed with Shady Records, an imprint of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records, and released his proper first studio album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which received massive critical acclaim and had great commercial success, receiving nonuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It also birthed “In da Club,” one of the most recognizable tracks in music, full stop, to this day. That same year, Interscope showed its faith in him by funding and distributing for his own label, G-Unit Records, namesake of the hip-hop group he formed two years prior; the label’s initial signees were its members, fellow East Coast rappers Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, and Young Buck. So going back to first impressions, well, we know how Jackson made his.

“I think my first impression was big enough,” he says with a cheeky smile. “I had the largest debut hip-hop album in history as I came in. I sold 13 million records, and then the Em heated up. I was blessed to have him around, because while I’m selling 13 million records of Get Rich or Die Tryin’, he’s selling 23 million records of The Marshall Mathers LP. There was always

a possibility for growth, a way to tap into something that could be even bigger. When your head gets so big that it can’t even fit through the door, you have someone around that can help balance that because they’ve had even greater success. Like, we had Dr. Dre around, and he had even more success than both me and Em long before we came in, so it kept everybody in our crew level-headed.”

And that’s pretty much how he’s rolled ever since. There’s no sense of entitlement on his end — just a continuous thirst to keep achieving — both musically and otherwise. “Music is still my first love, but I enjoy the creative side of all things, personally,” he says.

It shows. In the last 20-plus years, he’s founded G-Unit Film & Television, which currently has over 40 projects set up at the top broadcast, cable, and streaming network platforms, including Black Mafia Family and Power for Starz and its plethora of spin-offs, as well as the scripted series Fightland, Queen Nzinga, and The Massacre. He’s made more than 10 feature films; announced a non-exclusive multi-project development deal with FOX; created a Nicki Minaj animated starring vehicle in Lady Danger for Amazon; the docuseries The Hunt for the Gilgo Beach Killer for Peacock; a Sean “Diddy” Combs docuseries for Netflix; and the animated superhero comedy Trill League at BET+. He expanded into the podcast space with his new G-Unit Audio banner; opened the G-Unit Studios Louisiana in Shreveport this year; founded Sire Spirits, which encompasses both Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi (“The Kings Path”) champagne; diversified into the professional sports market by linking Sire Spirits to various teams across the MLB, the NHL, the NFL, and the NBA, including the Houston Astros, Vegas Golden Knights, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Texans, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders; and founded his non-profit, the G-Unity Foundation, among other initiatives.

“I know what I’m saying and what I’m doing,” Jackson maintains, adding, “I also know where I’m at [in life]. I think as we get older, we take on certain things that stay with us. Let’s say when you start out, you have a glass of wine every night. Later, you’d have that in the privacy of your home. When you have success, there’s a wine cellar, or there’s a bar at your home, because we don’t necessarily want to go out and party with the kids, so you bring the party to you. At one point, I had a place that was 55,000 square feet — one of the largest homes on the East Coast. It was previously owned by Mike Tyson, and that was necessary for the time period that I was in. I stayed there for 14 years. It was necessary for me to have that, because I was always bringing everybody with me to the party — and partying doesn’t stop. You can have 18 bedrooms but you’re going to only sleep on one bed, right? So, you’ve got to have people there to make more sense. For you to be paying a mortgage of a property with 18 bedrooms, 55,000 square feet, and six kitchens, you need people there to entertain. You need people for the staff that’s there to cook and keep things in order, or it’s all unnecessary.”

Things have changed in a major way since those days. “I just don’t need the same things,” he insists. “I do things differently. Now, I know myself more. I know what I require, and I definitely don’t require 55,000 square feet. If I had 13 kids, maybe, they would fit comfortably in 18 rooms. Other than that, it’s just me. I really need three rooms total. A bedroom, an office, a guest bedroom. I would say this to people: we live once. If you want it, you should have it.”

He looks at me earnestly. “Do you know what I mean? That instant gratification is when we splurge on things. When you understand business even a little bit, you’ll look at things and realize that it would be hard for you to dress if you knew what the manufacturing cost was; you’d feel like you’re being beat out of your money. For me, now, I’m in a position where I’ll say, spend the same money, I don’t care, because if I don’t spend it, they’ll take it. I don’t want the IRS to have it... but do it in a different way You fly private if you feel like you need to just be away from everything. The cost doesn’t matter, because you’re going to spend it anyway. But when you look at it and you say that shit looks good, and when I look good, I feel good? It’s worth it.”

ith his 50th birthday a year away, Curtis Jackson is doing a check-in. As this major milestone approaches, does he have everything he wants in life? Is he content? After some assessment, he seems happy: yes, he does have it all — outside of one thing, that is.

“I wish I had a daughter,” he admits during our June Zoom session, repeating the sentiment earnestly. “I do. I wish I had a daughter.”

He’s always regretted not having a little girl, though he is a father of two: his sons Marquise and Sire are, respectively, 28 and 12. “I wish I had that [fatherdaughter] relationship. For female children, their dad is the first man they fall in love with. Male children go to their mom; I’m a mama’s boy myself.”

It seems like Jackson started feeling broody after attending the May wedding of Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade, in Michigan, citing, in fact, the relationship between his longtime friend and his little girl as a recent trigger.

“It was unbelievable, the wildest thing for me, period. I was like, ‘Yo, bro, this is crazy. We’re getting old. Your baby is grown. What the fuck is going on?’ I was having a moment myself over there. I told Em, ‘You said it was OK to cry, because I’m crying.’ I couldn’t believe it went that fast.”

He explains that he’s been trying to get Eminem on tour for years, but the Detroit-born rapper was adamant that he couldn’t until Hailie had grown up. “That was the difference between my experience and Em’s. I could always go out on the road, but with Hailie, it was different. Like if she’s looking at you and she doesn’t want you to leave and you go ‘no, I’ve got to work.’ [And she says] But really, do you have to go?’ ‘OK, maybe I don’t have to go.’ If that was the case, things might have changed for me.”

Still, he says it felt like yesterday that he and Em discussed going on tour together, and his friend declined. “Em was saying that he didn’t want to go everywhere in the world where I went. I would say to him that people would pay a gazillion dollars to see us on tour together, all kinds of money to see him perform. And he still did not care about that, because the most expensive thing that we have is time, and he was conscious of being there for Hailie growing up.”

But now that she has officially fled the nest, it’s time. “We should be on the run now; [the kids are] grown,” he insists.

Although he’s still physically preparing for the next leg of his own existing tour — The Final Lap kicked off last July in Salt Lake City, Utah he’s already thinking 10 steps ahead about what’s to come, as is in his nature. But given that his own tour has broken records and made history, it’s not a bad thing to focus on the present, either.

The 29-country Final Lap tour became only the fourth rap tour in history to ever cross the $100 million mark. There were 102 shows in 150 days, with over 1.2 million tickets sold.

This tour felt different for Jackson, though. “When I went to perform and looked in the crowd [it was mostly kids in their 20s]. I was like, damn, where are your moms? I’m just in a different place now, and I do get tired of touring,” he admits. “I only did the last tour because the television business was on strike; I probably wouldn’t have done it if everything stayed functional, if we weren’t on hiatus from film and television. [That being said] I had a ball.”

Film and television have been his main focus as of late, especially as his G-Unit Productions continues to develop and his deals start to increase. This is also why he’s been hemming and hawing about agreeing to a Las Vegas residency, despite the demand being there.

“How much of a residency can I commit to when I have multiple film projects coming? Not just the television stuff, but opportunities for me to star in feature films, too. I’m having success in film; my career in television

mirrors my music career. My first television show [Power] is the largest show on the network; I’m able to develop spinoff shows and turn this into a 10-year anniversary, and it’s now the number one program in African American and Latino households. So, [now in particular] I have to seriously balance out and schedule things.”

I mention that many Las Vegas residencies are spaced out, months apart. He thinks about it. “That would actually be fun; that would work for me to do it that way,” he muses.

Maybe it will work out somewhere down the line, especially given that Sire Spirits is the presenting champagne sponsor of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, among the other aforementioned teams, a stealthy power move of which he says started in Houston with Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, carried over to fellow Texas-based team Houston Astros, and then, beyond.

“When the Astros won the World Series, that relationship opened up so many others. And at the same time, I [realized that I needed to do a deal] with the owners of the actual teams and make Branson the official cognac and Chemin de Roi the official champagne. It was a cool approach, and I ended up with 11 different professional teams. As I got with them too, I was like, I should have been at the sports book. I should have really been betting some money on this stuff because it was working. But, then, I had additional gratification from being correct,” he says with a cheeky grin. [Several times, in fact: in just the first year of launching said partnership program, five of his then-seven teams went to post-season, and two won championships.]

So where does Jackson go from here? The answer: anywhere the hell he wants. “I’ve already exceeded some of my personal goals, and what I’ve learned about myself is that I have to constantly recreate what my goals are, which is like running through an endless tunnel. I have this disease called ambition,” he admits, noting, “and you can contract it from not having anything. People who grow up über wealthy, born with a silver spoon, their task is not to figure out how to acquire or to develop generational wealth; their task is to figure out what’s cool, because everything is an option. It’s pretty tough to have ambition when you have so much from the beginning. So, from not having, I do want to do everything. I also want to leave things for my kids, and I think that’s the ultimate goal.”

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson didn’t have much growing up, but he’s got everything he needs now, and he did it himself. Which is why, he feels, the album that best represents his current place in life is his 2007 self-named record, Curtis. “It symbolizes where I’m at; 50 Cent is only a portion of the experience. My grandmother’s baby is Curtis. [She] never stopped calling me that name, this whole journey. Now, I’m also trying to be the new version of the guy that was already out there.”

The guy who loves acting. The guy who admits when he’s wrong, doesn’t mind stirring the pot when he’s right (and even when he isn’t), the guy who wants to try new things and who refuses to stop learning or growing. The guy who wants to leave a legacy, and who will never give up on his first true love.

“I still love music — listening to it and performing it,” he shares, confessing, “When I’m about to go onstage to perform, I get butterflies. Every time, I have butterflies. But I think if you don’t get a little nervous before you do something you care about, you probably shouldn’t do it anymore. And I’m far from being done.” He pauses, and adds, “I’m going to give everyone even more reasons to remember me.”

I have no doubt — and can’t wait to see what he tries next.

THE WORLD’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS

These are the global culinary hot spots that walked away with awards at this year’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony, held for the first time ever in Las Vegas.

THE TOP PLAYERS IN HAUTE CUISINE CAME TOGETHER IN LAS VEGAS THIS SUMMER TO celebrate the World’s 50 Best Restaurants of 2024. The awards ceremony, hosted at Wynn Las Vegas, honored the very best gastronomic talent from 26 territories across five continents.

This year’s big winner was Barcelona’s Disfrutar. The restaurant, which is run by the skilled chef trio of Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas, succeeds the 2023 winner, Central in Lima, which now enjoys an elevated position in the “Best of the Best” hall of fame. Disfrutar is famed for modern techniques and beautiful ingredients, resulting in an experience that subverts traditional fine dining in a completely surprising way. The tasting menu showcases a Mediterranean identity with avant-garde flavors to deliver daring contemporary food that is truly thought-provoking. It is followed in the ranking by Asador Etxebarri (No.2) in Atxondo, also in Spain, and Paris’ Table Bruno Verjus (No.3).

There were also a few American restaurants that made the top 50 list. Those included Best Restaurant in North America winner Atomix, a Korean counter-dining spot in New York from husband-and-wife team Junghyun ‘JP’ and Ellia Park, and Healdsburg’s SingleThread, from husbandand-wife team Kyle and Katina Connaughton — a chef and farmer, respectively — which combines Kyle’s unique Japanese cuisine with fresh ingredients grown on Katina’s smallholding, and which pays tribute to ancient Japanese ryokans. Three additional US restaurants also placed on the extended 51-100 list include: Le Bernadin in New York (No.71), new entry Smyth in Chicago (No.90), and New York’s Cosme at No.99. The Resy One To Watch Award 2024 also hailed from an American eatery — Kato in Los Angeles. The award was presented by legendary, 3 Michelin Star chef Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park, which is part of the “Best of the Best” group of former No.1-ranked restaurants. AS AARON RODGERS ENTERS HIS SECOND ‘FIRST TIME’ PLAYING WITH THE NEW YORK JETS, HE REVEALS THE COMPLEX NATURE OF GETTING YOUR CONFIDENCE BACK.

THERE IS SOMETHING INCREDIBLY FREEING ABOUT AARON RODGERS. As I sat down with our Haute Time September cover star, I have to say that, at that point, I had been researching the legendary NFL quarterback for several weeks. I watched his interviews with Pat McAfee (the former NFL punter-turned-sports analyst, comedian, and media personality), understood the stories that made headlines, and studied the Zenith watches he gravitated towards. I was doing my due diligence. Yet, within moments of our conversation starting, the notes I had meticulously prepared went out the window.

Interviewing Rodgers felt like having a conversation with a longtime friend, a therapist, and a fellow watch enthusiast all at once. Beyond timepieces and journalism, I have a passion for reading energies — and Rodgers’ has one of the most liberating and genuine I have ever encountered.

The last time Haute Time sat down with Rodgers was in 2021, when he was entering his sixteenth season with the Green Bay Packers, so we had quite a bit of catching up to do. Since then, he has played two more seasons (nearly reaching two decades with the Packers) and was traded to the New York Jets during the 2023 NFL Draft with a two-year, $75 million guaranteed contract — though unfortunately suffered an injury during his first season with the team.

Fast forward to today, just a few weeks before training camp, and Rodgers feels good. “I feel blessed to still be playing football at 40 years old. Being in New Jersey, near New York City, has been a beautiful experience,” Rodgers admits, jokingly adding that the New York Jets should technically be called the New Jersey Jets.

“It’s a new team, a new organization, and new guys to get to know. Although getting hurt in the first game last year was tough, it was a good change. I embraced it, and I am looking forward to a healthy season this year,” he continues. Naturally, his recovery after tearing his Achilles tendon is top of mind for everyone as the 2024 NFL season approaches.

Yet, despite the complexity of the injury, Rodgers exudes a calm energy. “[The recovery] is multifaceted,” he explains. “I went to, in my opinion, the best doctor in the country, Dr. Neal ElAttrache. NFL running back Cam Akers was his patient a few years ago, and he returned faster than anyone else has ever returned from an Achilles injury — five months. So, I knew I was in the right place. Physically, the rehab was fantastic,” Rodgers adds.

While most would assume that physical healing is the most important aspect of the sport, Rodgers quickly discovered that the emotional side of the injury was just as crucial, if not the hardest part. “With any major injury, it’s always that last little bit of time where you have to regain confidence and overcome fear. There are stages of grief that come with an injury for me — at first, there’s sadness, heartbreak, and frustration,” he reveals. But now, he can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Rodgers is facing his final mental hurdle: regaining the confidence to do all the things he knows he is capable of, but hasn’t done in a year.

“The last bit of [healing] will happen in a few weeks, when I go back to training camp, reconnect with the guys, and have my body respond exactly the way I want it to,” he explains. Another aspect of his journey was the loss of camaraderie with the team, as he rehabbed across the country in California. Rebuilding that bond with the team means more than anything to him.

As Rodgers mentioned, recovery is not linear.

In fact, he has been scrutinized for his alternative healing methods, namely ayahuasca. As a firm believer in exploring different energies to heal the body, I had to ask how these different healing tools have changed his life. “In a lot of different ways,” Rodgers says, laughing as he admits that the answer to my question would take over an hour to discuss (though I wish we had that time). “But I would say that doing ayahuasca, especially, has changed my life for the better. I’ve participated in numerous ayahuasca ceremonies — they are like microcosms of life.”

For Rodgers, life is a big ceremony. “In the week-long ceremonies, there are a lot of high moments, and a lot of difficult moments, but the goal is to find a deeper connection to yourself, to nature, and to the people around you. It’s given me a lot of high doses of self-love, forgiveness, and gentleness — things that have really made a big impact on my life.”

On a deeper level, these alternative healing methods have challenged Rodgers’ ego. “It can be an incredible tool to dive deep into the exploration of self and to deal with self-criticism and all of the different things we tell ourselves — the lies we tell ourselves — to deal with the ego,” he explains.

Given his time in the spotlight, I imagine this tool is essential. “You have to learn to find a proper place for the ego, to put it back into the heart and get it out of the head. You turn the ‘observer’ on where you can look at your life from an objective point-of-view to find a deeper connection with yourself and the people in your life.”

Though Rodgers doesn’t necessarily recommend this journey for everyone, at this point in our conversation, I am intrigued — and inspired — by his ability to read his different energies and evolve his perspective based on each specific moment in time.

He continues, “I also firmly believe in the reverent nature that needs to go along [with this practice] to put medicine in the right place. I have only done ayahuasca with incredible indigenous tribes that have spent their life training from childhood; it’s generational, passed down in lineage. I really believe in the sacred nature of medicine and not to mess around with it; it’s not a party plant. There is a time and place for it, and I am thankful for the role it has played in this time of my life, especially the last five years.”

It has been proven over the last several years that these alternative healing methods have helped patients with dementia, PTSD, and more, helping them become a more common practice. Rodgers has taken certain tools from these ceremonies and implemented them into his everyday life, such as ‘Hapé,’ a ritual involving a sacred tobacco blend and ashes from sacred fires that is known for its cleansing, grounding, and spiritual effects. “I first became familiar with it years ago, when I was in Peru, but it has since become a weekly practice for me when I need to ground myself. It’s a great tool for getting back into my body when I’m feeling a little worn out; it’s a good way to re-center,” he says. These techniques have proven to be efficacious for Rodgers to stay present in time.

Speaking of time, I happen to notice the Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph on his wrist. It’s no secret that Zenith has been a part of Rodgers’ life for some time now, and I can’t help but draw a parallel between the two as they both enter new chapters: Rodgers is about to restart his career with the Jets, and Zenith welcomed a new CEO, Benoit De Clerck, this year.

As we delve deeper into watches, Rodgers recalls one of his favorite lines from the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall. “I harken back to the line from when Mila Kunis is talking about not wearing a watch anymore. She says something about how she doesn’t know the point of wearing a watch anymore, when everyone has the time on their phone, but I think there’s a classy nature to wearing a watch. There is an heirloom quality to it — passing it down through generations. That didn’t happen in my family,” he continues, “but it’s something I want to pass down myself.”

Thanks to his relationship with Zenith, his future children will definitely need to be Chronomaster Sport fans. But for Rodgers, the relationship with Zenith goes beyond the physical watch. “When you endorse a product, you aren’t just endorsing the actual watch; you are endorsing the people who make the company special. Some companies forget that it’s not the name on top of the building or the name at the back of the jersey that make it special — it’s the people who make it special.”

In fact, it was the people behind Zenith who solidified his love for the brand. “Going to Switzerland and actually meeting the men and

women who work at the facility, and to see how much they care, is what locked it in for me. The 10,000 hour-rule by Malcolm Gladwell (the rule that it takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to achieve mastery of complex skills and materials), is very true with these men and women who make the parts of the watches — there’s an expertise that you can’t help but appreciate the beauty of,” Rodgers admits, before getting philosophical about it (‘the Rodgers perspective,’ I like to think of it). “In life, in general, when you meet someone who is super passionate about something and they tell you about it, it draws you into that passion, and you feel connected because someone cares about something so much.”

He also feels connected to the history of watchmaking. As a history buff in college, learning the history of Zenith drew him closer to the brand.

“Knowing how it went through some tough times but persevered based on the courage of a small group of people to save the most important timemaking apparatus is pretty cool; they made the movement for another watch company for a really long time because of the expertise,” Rodgers explains, teeming with knowledge. Admittingly, at one point, we joked that he knew so much about Zenith’s complexities that he could work there.

Though he wasn’t wearing it at the time of our conversation, Rodgers’ go-to Zenith is hands down the Chronomaster Sport with the white dial — it’s the one he would pick to wear for the rest of his life if he had to choose but he also has an affinity to the 41mm limited edition Chronomaster Sport Aaron Rodgers, with the legendary green dial. “We spent several months working on that collaboration, making decisions on so many small things, so when I saw it for the first time, it was truly meaningful. I helped put that watch together.”

Rodgers actually gifted his limited edition watch to a few important people in his life, like Dr. ElAttrache and his agent, Ed Berry.

Often, we associate timepieces with major life milestones, and for Rodgers, there’s one watch that changed the course of his life forever: the blinged-out Pippo he wore to the 2005 NFL Draft. “That watch meant a lot to me; it symbolized the moment I realized, OK, I am about to be a professional. It’s funny to look back now, because I would never wear that watch today — no diamond bezels for me — but it represents a moment in time that changed my life.”

As one of the most introverted extroverts — or is it extroverted introverts — I have ever met, Rodgers has a sentiment on life that can be summed up in one word: excitement. He is excited for the season ahead, for life beyond football, and even for planning his first fall vacation as an adult once his football career ends. “I definitely have a lot of things I want to accomplish [outside of football]. I want to be a father at some point, so that will be a fun chapter,” he says with a smile.

Rodgers has dedicated over 23 years of his life to football with no regrets, but he looks forward to the new chapters ahead. Yet for him, we are all living in the same moment — past, present, and future — it’s just perspective that adjusts your mindset.

Like most, Rodgers looks at time as the most valuable commodity. “I’ve spent so much of my time stewing over things that don’t matter and which, vibrationally, are just distant with my body. I think any time you have experienced the death of a close friend, it’s a reminder of how fast time goes and how finite life is,” he reflects. “So now, I am trying to spend my time with the people who matter most.”

Over the last several decades, Louis Vuitton has become a name synonymous with victory. As just seen with the Trophy Trunks and Medals for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris designed by Louis Vuitton, the Maison continues its dedication to sporting awards with the Louis Vuitton Cup and the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona this year.

Founded only a few years apart — America’s Cup in 1851 and Louis Vuitton in 1854 — these two esteemed institutions have shared a parallel history for over 130 years. Their paths converged in 1983, when Louis Vuitton introduced a dedicated trophy for a showdown between the competition’s Defender and the Challengers. Bentley V8 motors on the rise

The end of the V12 era does not cut back on performance.

BENTLEY DOES THINGS RIGHT. ANYONE WHO’S BEEN BEHIND the wheel of a B-car knows this, but some expressed concerns that the coming of the self-driving cars (when?) and the end of the internalcombustion engine (when?) would mark the start of the “Anemic Era.” We should not have worried, at least not as far as Bentley goes.

The famed Bentley 12-cylinder motors ended production earlier this year and will not be available in any new models. With impressive horsepower and incredible torque, those 6.0-liter motors set the standard for performance. So, how would the eight-cylinder motors compare? Well, the eights certainly have better fuel economy, but will the legendary performance of the bigger motors be lamented by today’s drivers? Bently invited me to Boston to get familiar with the more-powerful V8 motors that will be the nameplate’s main motivators in the coming years, the eight-bangers. But, of course, there was no “banging” with these whisper-quiet power plants, whose silence was befitting the GTs, Flying Spurs, and Bentaygas that I was set to drive the next day to The Preserve Sporting Club, a 3,500-acre retreat near Providence, Rhode Island.

A brief overview of the Bentley family may be helpful. The Bentley GTs are two-door “grand tourers,” either convertible or hard top. The Flying Spurs are four-door cars, while the Bentaygas are Bentley’s SUVs. Each of those body styles comes with a variety of options, some focusing on luxury, others on performance, and a few even available with an extended wheelbase (the Bentley online configurator allows interested patrons a multitude of ways to create the vehicle that is the most suitable for their needs).

Over the years, I’ve driven all of Bentley’s models and have enjoyed each of them for different reasons. Want a grand touring car? Try the GT Speed, with its performance focus. Interested in a sporty cruiser for those wonderful summer days and nights driving through the countryside? Try the GT Convertible (or “GTC”) with its plush fabric top which, when up, has all of the benefits of a hardtop with an elegant roof. Need a car for up to five adults? The Flying Spur delivers, with ample leg room, power folddown tables, and TV screens in the back seats. And if you need more of a utility vehicle, which is equally at home on the ranch, at a lakeside picnic, at the gun club, or on a night on the town, then call on the Bentayga. This

time, from the offered fleet waiting for me in Boston, I chose a unique twotone Flying Spur, with gleaming silver paint and beautifully contrasting gloss black grille surround, hood, and roof.

While the drive from Boston to my stay in Rhode Island was a mere 50 miles or so — and mostly on highways — my Flying Spur was quiet, smooth, powerful, and comfortable the whole way. Yet this was no docile machine when the pedal hit the metal, which, of course, was necessary when coming on to the highway and merging. With an output of about 540 horsepower, this should not have come as a surprise, even though the Flying Spur weighs in at over 5,000 pounds.

The weight of the car, when kept in check by a supple yet confident suspension, provided me with the smooth ride of a long wheel-base 2.5ton cruiser, and yet, there was nary a wallow in sight as I navigated the curves and twisties.

And no, I did not ignore the GTs on this trip. They did wonderfully on the path to Providence too, ensconcing their drivers and passengers in quiet comfort while rocketing down the turnpike (never past the speed limit, of course).

Once we arrived at The Preserve — a 3,500-acre resort with room to roam and areas set aside for almost any outdoor event you can imagine, such as fly fishing, skeet shooting, picnicking, and even off-roading at the custom-designed mud, rock, rivulet, and puddle filled course — it was time for the Bentaygas to shine. For this Angeleno, who is used to seeing the Bentaygas’ offroad cred mostly used to conquer nothing more than dusty Starbucks’ lots, putting the highly capable Bentley utility vehicle through the paces to handle the trails with aplomb and grace was a great experience. What a brilliant move from Bentley to let potential customers experience all that the Bentayga has to offer while staying at a luxurious resort with so many activities to choose from, most of which showcased the Bentayga’s terrific functionality.

So, as Jay Leno is fond of saying, “There’s no replacement for displacement,” and I am a big fan of the Bentley W12 S (basically two V6 motors side by side). That said, the fire-breathers of yore clearly are on their way out, and Bentley has found a way to closely emulate the performance of the Bentley big-motor brethren while greatly improving the gas mileage and making room for the upcoming hybrid and then fully electric line of models. I will miss the sound of a big gas-fired motor, but the rush of acceleration produced by their V8 twin-turbos is equally thrilling; the handling improved by the reduced engine weight of the smaller motor and the impressive gas mileage are wonderful tradeoffs. (Note: At press time, Bentley just introduced the 771-horsepower GT Speed hybrid, so you don’t have to worry about your next Bentley not having enough power!).

Bentley has a way of creating cars that are at once elegant and refined, yet fast and highly responsive. Coupled with their inimitable ability to fabricate luxurious interiors with every detail thoughtfully created out of the finest materials, all Bentleys contain that excellent DNA of great design, high-quality components, excellent ergonomics, and also provide drivers and passengers alike the great satisfaction that they are in a wellthought-out machine. I remain a big fan of the brand and am pleased to report that the company’s move to the smaller-displacement motors does not require any need for lowered expectations: the V8s easily uphold Bentley’s long-term commitment to performance, coupled with luxury.

During the cocktail celebration, celebrity artist Johnathan Schultz gifted De Niro with a custom art piece entitled Evolution of Bold, featuring 80 diamonds set in 24-carat white gold, with mixed media and a gold canvas. Guests sipped Telmont Champagne while dining on lamb lollipops, chicken souvlaki, tuna tartare, tiropita, and Avra chips.
