Sagaponack. You’ve always dreamt about that expansive, 4 acre compound, awash in sea breezes, you’d buy in Sagaponack just a bike ride to ocean beaches. You’re not really a fan of all those new constructions but instead want something more like the sprawling, authentic properties that dotted the Hamptons landscape years ago. Well….I just happen to have one if you’re still in the market. Better hurry though as there aren’t any other 4 acre compounds with all this going on hanging around at the moment with an amazing new price. Ocean Avenue East Hampton. Jaffe, Fleetwood, Meier, Bates, Gwathmey....... Stern. Among a handful of renowned architects that helped to define the Hamptons in the late 20th Century, Robert A. M. Stern lent his prodigious talent to the design of a palatial receptacle for sun, site and view. Nestled on a 3-acre grassy knoll that stretches to the bucolic waters of Hook Pond with views to the ocean beyond, this sprawling 7,500 SF, 6 bedroom beach house, with its soft, subtle design, exudes a serene mood, recalling lazy, luxuriant summers. Warm rays of sunshine seep through slatted blinds in slashes that shift with the hours. The zig zag angles of the window walls orient the living level on a diagonal to the long axis of the house, designed by Stern to capture views across Hook Pond while the bleached floorboards follow the diagonal flow to the south. The main living room upstairs is light and open, free of determinate walls with bleached wood floors, moldings and columns enriching a neutral palette of white walls and natural materials. Joining that on the 2nd floor is the master wing with its sleeping chamber overlooking the grounds, pond and ocean and a sumptuous, oversized bath featuring an amorphous, meandering winter green tub contrasting with the sensuous cream color marble floor. A short staircase climbs to a roof deck, perhaps for that postprandial cigar as you soak in the views. The ground floor is home to an eat-in kitchen which is more than adequate to service the formal dining room, defined by its bay window and designed for the elegance and glamour of nighttime use. A second living room, dramatic, yet understated, resides on the southern end of the first floor also with expansive views through a series of French doors that allow access to the grounds outside. Just beyond lies a green house and studio space. A separate staff wing is found above the attached 2 car garage. Outside a kaleidoscope of color abounds with specimen trees, colorful plantings, award winning perennial gardens and a sea of lawn stretching down to Hook Pond, much of which can be enjoyed when sitting beside the 40’ heated, Gunite pool with spa. And yes, a tennis court could be sunk into this gorgeous 3 acre tableau. And if your tastes dictate a different choice, this spectacular site could accommodate a new, 8,200 SF residence, finished lower level and 1,400 SF accessory structure of your own design. With both Main Beach and village shopping just a short stroll away, plan your own personal tour soon as this eclectic offering is sure to find a new owner in time for Summer 2017. and shakers on the East End. We’re delighted to have Christie Brinkley, a longtime Hamptons resident and age-defying beauty as our cover subject. In the accompanying feature Brinkley talks about her love for the villages of the South Fork, her secrets to looking great at any age, and her new business ventures, including the Bellissima prosecco line. We talk to
Michael Kors, the great American designer—also a resident of the Hamptons—about his distinct take on American style. Our Power Players feature looks at the influential men and women who summer on the East End and give tirelessly to its various communities, supporting the area’s philanthropies and charity events and doing so with great personal style. We profile Hilaria Baldwin, who recently wrote the book The Living Clearly Method, a primer for practicing a more balanced, healthier lifestyle. For our readers who summer in the Hamptons, we have included a roundup of the galas and events not to miss, and report on all the hot new restaurant openings. Enjoy the issue, and if you are heading out East, we wish you a terrific summer in one of the most beautiful destinations on the planet.

HAMPTONS CHOICES
New York tastemakers with summer homes on the East End reveal their favorite addresses.
A designer once described as a fashion “wunderkind” by the New York Observer, Tony Melillo, who dressed Leonardo DiCaprio for the film The Beach, opened a new year-round ATM shop in East Hampton on Memorial Day weekend. The store features the easy-chic, luxury casualwear (for men and women) craved by Hamptons stylistas. There is also a new line of shoes, camo sweatsuits, T-shirt dresses, bodysuits, and hand-painted pants (20 Newtown Lane; 631-527-7271; atmcollection.com). CLOTHES Tiina the Store is great for beachy brands. They carry some that are harder to find, like The Elder Statesman. I recently picked up sweaters and DESIGN BY THE BEACH Top: Tony Melillo and Kelly Klein with Kelly’s son Lukas Rector and Tony’s son Max MiletichMelillo. blankets for the beach there (216 Main Street, Amagansett; 631-267-6200; tiinathestore.com). I get my son’s clothes at Clic General Store; they have a nice selection of baby clothes and great gifts, like caftans (60 Newtown Lane, East Hampton; 631-527-7102; ehgeneralstore@clic.com). BEACHWEAR The Sunset Beach Hotel in Shelter Island has a great beachside boutique; it doesn’t feel like a hotel gift shop at all (35 Shore Road, Shelter Island Heights; 631-749-2001; sunsetbeachli.com). I’ve been wearing Orlebar Brown bathing suits for years; the fit is wonderful, and I like that they have exclusive styles there every season (55 Newtown Lane, East Hamp-
ton; 631-324-3960; orlebar-brown.com). Pilgrim Surf & Supply has superbeachy surf wear and a great selection of hats (4 Amagansett Square, Amagansett; 631-267-3598; pilgrimsurfsupply.com). VINTAGE FURNITURE AND DECORATIVE OBJECTS Lazy Point sells a collection of interesting vintage and boho home goods and decorative items (171 Main Street, Amagansett; 631-604-1268; lazy pointvariety.com). For the best lamps, I always suggest Comerford Collection (2442 Main Street, Bridgehampton; 631-537-6200; store.comerford collection.com). I have this perfect hammock from Love Adorned (Amagansett Square, 156 Main Street, Amagansett; 631-267-7720; eastend@loveadorned.com). They also carry great little trinkets. French Presse is the place for beautiful bedding, towels, and linens (160 Main Street, Amagansett; 917-864-9711; frenchpresse.com). TABLEWARE Bloom has great handcrafted pottery, candles, and the best linen napkins from Society. Last season, they had these really beautiful water pitchers (43 Madison Street, Sag Harbor; 631-725-5940). GIFTS I like going to Aerin (83 Main Street, Southampton; 631-353-3773; aerin.com).

TASTES OF SUMMER
Summer outposts of iconic Manhattan spots, along with new bistros and new chefs, are giving East End dining a fresh dose of buzz. Each Memorial Day, the East End welcomes a host of new restaurants, but the summer of 2017 has particularly rich offerings, including two outposts of iconic Manhattan spots as well as new eateries and offerings from Hamptons favorites. If there’s anything that ties them together, it’s the emphasis on local produce—and there’s a bounty of it.

son Park comes to the Hamptons. It’s perhaps the most eagerly awaited opening of the season, now that EMP was voted number one on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. But don’t expect a duplicate of Gotham’s temple of haute cuisine. Chef Daniel Humm says that while some recipes and techniques will be incorporated from EMP, the menu will be à la carte rather than a tasting menu, and the emphasis will be on local produce and seafood. “We designed EMP Summer House [341 Pantigo Road; empsummerhouse. com] to be a more casual version of what we do at Eleven Madison Park, the type of restaurant you’d want to visit in the summertime after a day at the beach, or a place for a fun meal with friends.” Humm says they are planning to take full advantage of the locale, sourcing from local fishermen and farmer’s markets. “We’re still finetuning things, but you can expect bouillabaisse, steaks, pastas, oysters, stone fruit cobblers, and large-format experiences like a fried chicken din-

Le Bilbo, of course, is the powerhouse restaurant owned by Ron Perelman, Steven Witkoff, Eric Clapton, and Philippe Delgrange, the mastermind behind the restaurant as well as its gatekeeper, who plans to be at the restaurant four days a week. be offered in addition to summer edibles like la grande Niçoise and la salade de homard Caesar with poached lobster. The restaurant, located at 1 Long Wharf, will offer great views of the local marina and yacht harbor. Sag Harbor is going to see a lot of hot dining action this summer as LuLu Kitchen & Bar (126 Main Street; 631-7250900) comes to town. Owned by Apollo Global Management cofounder Marc Rowan, with the kitchen under the direction of Phillipe Corbet, most recently of Arbor, the restaurant will focus on what the LuLu team is calling “woodburning” cuisine.devised by Corbet with dishes created to take advantage of local produce. For example, seafood platters (available throughout the day) include Montauk pearl oysters and Bonac razor clams; the duck leg confit appetizer comes with frisee salad and Mecox blue cheese; Mecox cheddar turns up on the Lulu cheeseburger, while spicy Long Island grapes are served with the grilled heirloom cauliflower. Other offerings include wood-oven cast iron market fish and grilled prawns and smoked ratatouille The menu will also feature weekly specials each day such as Monday’s bouillabaise and Tuesday’s chef’s mussels. THE SPRINGS The Springs Tavern (15 Fort Pond; 631-5277800) will open in the space formerly known as Wolfie’s Tavern, a historic locale where guests once included abstract artists Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. Food is American pub style by chef Michael Ruggiero, an alum of Nick & Toni’s, Fresno, and the Montauk Lake Club. WATER MILL The team behind such New York favorites as Amali, Il Cantinori, and Periyali will bring the flavors of another trendster watering hole, Mykonos, to Calissa (1020 Montauk Highway) in Water Mill. In true Greek style, the kitchen will remain open until 2 a.m. (The restaurant is planning to stay open year-round.) EXPANSIONS AND UPDATES EAST HAMPTON: Dopo la Spiaggia, one of the East End’s favorite Italian eateries, opens a second larger (nearly 3,000-square-foot) location in East Hampton (31 Race Lane). Restaurateurs Maria and Larry Baum and chef owner Maurizio Marfoglia will continue offering locally sourced Southern Italian favorites like cavolini with shaved Brussels sprouts and toasted pine nuts; a seafood tagliolini with bay scallops, shrimp, and calamari; and Ippoglossion—a pan-seared halibut with faro, kale, and chanterelle mushrooms. BRIDGEHAMPTON: French bistro Almond (1 Ocean Road; 631-537-5665), a Hamptons mainstay (since 2001), has a new chef, Jeremy Blustein, formerly of Eataly, Margaux, and Trememon. MONTAUK: Arbor (240 Fort Pond Road, 631-238-5430) returns for its second season, with an outdoor dining area and an outdoor bar, overseen by The Garrett, noted for its top mixologists and popular watering holes in the East and West Village. In an effort to attract attention to listings, agents and brokers are relying on various innovative methods to entice buyers, including meditation classes instead of cocktail parties and turning properties into temporary art galleries, continuing education classes, and involving Instagram influencers with their listings. Another factor likely contributing to the soft market is economic uncertainty. Both buyers and sellers are unsure about where the economy is headed under this new administration. If tax cuts occur, some experts believe the market will rebound. Other analysts fear reduced taxes and increased spending might trigger inflation along with escalating interest rates. The New York real estate market is in a bit of a holding pattern until details of budget legislation are worked out and plans for infrastructure spending are announced. Only then will buyers and sell-

“I GREW UP ON LONG ISLAND, SO THAT IDEA OF LAID-BACK, EASY LUXURY—OF SPENDING the day at the beach, then throwing on a glamorous caftan or jeans and a light cashmere knit for cooler nights—has always been intrinsic to what I do,” says Michael Kors, one of the most successful designers in American history. A long-time resident of Southampton, Kors is also one of the Hamptons’ highest-profile residents— no small achievement in a community overflowing with mega-watt celebrities and high-powered Wall Street machers. In 2014, he became a member of a very posh East End club—billionaire fashion designers who call the South Fork home. He joined Ralph Lauren, whose estate is in Montauk, and Tory Burch, who like Kors is a Southamptonite, in that posh circle when his company was listed on the Forbes billionaires list for the first time that year.

what you’re doing, who your customer is, and how they live.” The designer believes another reason for his success was the consistent focus—regardless of the decade, year, or collection— on clean-lined designs and sumptuous fabrics, and evolving these concepts into ever-fresh iterations of sporty takes on luxury. He says he always adds “a touch of glamour” to his pieces, and adheres to a design point of view that “seeks a blend and balance between indulgent and pragmatic. My customers want it all—ease, glamour, comfort, luxury, versatility, durability. And they deserve it all.” As for fashion’s next frontier, Kors feels that post-athleisure wear, the style pendulum will swing back a bit. “People are craving pieces that are more artisanal,” he explains. “So I think we’ll see some opulence trickle back in, but in a way that works for everyday life—like a great embroidered coat or a crushable snakeskin carryall.” As for a fashion look he’d like to see vanish completely: “Pieces that leave nothing to

the imagination. Naked on a city street is not a good idea.” Kors is a designer with a broad customer reach, one whose lower-priced and wearable technology lines have connected with millennials, an elusive demographic for many established designers. There are times when walking around Manhattan you think that most women ages 25 to 34 own a Kors handbag, something that appears to be as essential to city life as an iPhone and an Uber app. Kors says being out there with social media—he has has 10.1 million followers on Instagram, and 3.5 million on Twitter—has helped his brand reach these millennials, who are “using social media as a place to get style inspiration and even do their research—they’re following brands because they want to know the story behind the label.” To keep this target group engaged, he says the plan is to continue evolving the Michael Kors Access line, to give “our fans everything they need in a smartwatch or an activity tracker, in a package that fits their personal style.” Kors’ mega success has allowed him to be a generous benefactor for such charities as God’s Love We Deliver (GLWD; the New York–based nonprofit organization that cooks and delivers meals daily to people with severe illnesses throughout New York City and the metro area) and the United Nations World Food Programme. Five years ago, he committed $5 million to GLWD for an expanded facility, which was renamed for him. When asked what remains on his bucket list to accomplish, Kors says, “Creating a world with zero hunger.” That same success has also allowed him to enjoy the city and the Hamptons at their most rarified levels; his celebrity friends are legion (Bette Midler, Debra Messing, Heidi Klum, the late Joan Rivers), but Kors says he can go about in both

Having conquered fashion and made his mark on philanthropy, what is Kors’ next move? There has been talk about producing Broadway shows (he and LePere gave $1.5 million to Manhattan’s Roundabout Theater Group for its 50th anniversary to support new musicals), but for now, Kors remains firmly committed to the fashion arena. And for his gazillions of fans around the world, that’s very good news indeed. MODERN CLASSICS From top: Michael Kors Collection (fall 2017) gold tote and chocolate Dori choked pump in calf/metal. Beyond that, I would say a slouchy boot is another must-have this fall. From what she recounts in her book, she was a go-getter from adolescence, always focused on high achievement. Her passion for dance so consumed her that she forgot the meaning of the word “downtime,” ignoring chronic muscle pain caused by rigorous workouts and performance regimens. Baldwin turned to yoga to help reduce stress, but as she had with dancing, went all in, falling in love with the discipline so much that she began her own business teaching classes. “I wanted to open up my own studio and worked seven days a week, even Christmas,” she recalls. “I got up at 4:30 a.m. and returned to my tiny apartment at 9:30 or 10 p.m., just exhausted.” Even though her on-the-go routine had resulted in chronic hip pain, she worked through it, until one day she collapsed on the ground—her leg bone had become severed from her hip. Then came surgery, crutches, wheelchairs, and a year to recuperate and to reflect on what happened. “My injury shone a glaring light on my self-sabotaging ways,” she says in the book. Baldwin knew her life needed a reboot, a new M.O., and that meant deprogramming so she could practice and refine more

In her new book, The Living Clearly Method, she chronicles how a fast-forward mind-set once cost her—big-time—and how a major physical setback led her to a

outlines her experiences traveling from frazzled to Zen in the book’s detailed, thoughtfully written chapters that suggest a level of wisdom and life smarts much more typical of someone decades older (Baldwin is 33). Most workaholic cures involve pulling back and detoxing from the tech, but Baldwin espouses a different approach for the incurably overprogrammed—in other words, most New Yorkers. She knows her audience, having taught countless yoga classes to the city’s highachievers and multitaskers who are not about to chill out at a beach on a daily basis—but who want to live a more enjoyable, less stressful, and healthy lifestyle. More important, Baldwin is her audience, with 24/7 demands on her time as a successful yoga entrepreneur, a mom to three small children, and a spouse (Alec Baldwin) with a high wattage career that has amped up even more since Donald Trump became president. (Alec, of course, is known for his searing impersonations of
of what she taught—the principles at the core of her Living Clearly method—for a more balanced lifestyle. “I had to learn my own philosophy,” she admits. Those principles, centered on connecting mind to body for a more fulfilling lifestyle, are at the core of her book. But The Living Clearly Method isn’t a manual of favorite yoga poses. Chapters focus on ways to combat negative behaviors by mastering the principles of perspective (seeing the bigger picture); learning breathing practices to help keep you in the moment and grounding methods for increased body awareness; and finding balance (the principle that Baldwin says she finds the toughest to get right) for all the things in life that compete for your attention, as well as strategies for deprogramming negative emotions. Baldwin may have learned the hard way how to slow down, but when it came to the book, she didn’t hesitate to practice what she preaches. When she started the project, she says she wanted to do it all on her own, but realized, with her third child on the way, how impractical that would be. “I can write, but I am not a writer,” she says, so she enlisted two editors to help coordinate the project and “put it in a format that readers could digest.” Writing the book was an interesting process, according to Baldwin,

like her bouts with anorexia and bulimia—went from something that was just “between me and my computer” to the public at large. “On one level, you know it’s going to be out there,” she says. “On another level, realizing people are knowing about your struggles with eating disorders was shocking. It really hit me when I went on Dr. Oz’s show [to discuss the book]. He said, ‘Thank you for talking about this. I know how hard it is.’ That’s when I thought, Oh my god, I told people about it.” Since “living clearly” is all about finding the right mind-body connection, I asked her how her principles have impacted her husband—after all, performing is the ultimate exercise in connecting thought to movement and requires a constant ability to be in the moment. “If I could have my way with him, he’d be 10 times more healthy,” she says with a laugh. But Baldwin acknowledges Alec’s role in getting her to learn to relax. When they first

She says for the first time in four years, “she won’t be pregnant” this summer and that she and Alec plan to spend the months of July and August off-the-grid on the East End. You assume that a lengthy stay by the beach also means more time to Photo courtesy of Hilaria Baldwin.

A REAL ESTATE MOGUL CHOOSES BRIDGEHAMPTON Real estate mogul R. Donahue (“Don”) Peebles is founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of the Peebles Corporation, a multibillion-dollar concern specializing in luxury condos, hotels, and commercial properties. Peebles is the former chairman of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and also served as chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation from 2015–2017. He is a frequent guest host and commentator on Fox, CNN, and CNBC. How long have you been going to the Hamptons? I have been a summer visitor to the Hamptons for over 30 years. I began coming out in the summer of 1986 and stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club. As time progressed and my income increased, I began renting homes for the summer. In 2006, we purchased our current home. Which of the Hamptons did you choose to buy a home in and why? Bridgehampton, because of the architecture of the home and the size of the grounds. We also wanted to be close to Sag Harbor; we dock our boat at the Yacht Club there. Our home is on the northern side of Bridgehampton, making Sag Harbor a nice, long brisk walk or short bike ride or drive. Most important is the fact that my daughter, an equestrian rider, has her barn within 10 minutes of our home. We are also a short drive to the Hampton Classic, where we watch our daughter Chloe compete. How have your Hamptons experiences informed your business? I have met many people my company now does business with for the first time socially or at horse shows out here. They have gone on to become significant and long-term business relationships. What events do you hope to attend in the Hamptons this summer? The Hampton Classic Horse Show; Independence Day fireworks from my boat with friends in Sag Harbor, Shelter Island, and Montauk; Art for Life—Hamptons; the Holiday House Hamptons White Party supporting Breast Cancer Research; the Lung Cancer Research Foundation’s Annual Strides for Life (East Hampton); and lots and lots of family time. A perfect day in the Hamptons would include… A day with my wife, daughter, and son, with close friends on our boat in the bay, and my daughter and her friends playing on water toys. Don Peebles, far right, with his wife, Katrina (second from left), Oren Alexander, left, and Chris Leavitt.
How do you think the Hamptons will change in the next five years? It’s my hope that the towns and the counties can control the traffic so it’s easier for younger people to enjoy this beautiful place. I am concerned that the crowded roads in the summer and ever-evolving airport curfews and restrictions will discourage people from spending their summers here.

A CELEBRITY PHILANTHROPIST WORKING TIRELESSLY FOR EAST END CHARITIES Jean Shafiroff, author of Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give, is one of the Hamptons’ (and New York City’s) most active and successful philanthropists. She has helped pave the way for a new era in philanthropy, one that encourages individuals to give gifts of time and knowledge as well as financial contributions. How long have you been going to the Hamptons and why did you choose to live in Southampton? My husband and I started going to the Hamptons a little over 20 years ago. Shortly after spending a fantastic summer on the East End, we decided to buy a home in Southampton. All of the towns in the Hamptons are beautiful, but since we had a large number of friends in Southampton, we decided to purchase there. How did you become involved with philanthropy in the Hamptons? After we bought a home in Southampton, I joined the board of the Southampton Bath and Tennis Club’s Charitable Foundation, where I remain very active. I later became involved with the Southampton Hospital and chaired their Annual Summer Party in 2010, 2011, and 2013, where we raised a total of $5.3 million. In 2012, I became active with the Southampton Animal Shelter, becoming an honorary board member. I have chaired the Shelter’s Annual Gala for five years, enabling them to raise millions of dollars. This year I will be honored by the Shelter along with Sony Schotland. My other involvement with philanthropic groups in the Hamptons includes both chairing and being honored by The Ellen Hermanson Foundation, as well as by the American Heart Association at their Hamptons Heart Ball. This year I co-chaired the Heart Ball on June 10. Why did you choose the causes you support? I am drawn to causes I believe in, where I can make a difference. There is no question that good PHOTOS: LEFT PAGE, ©PATRICK MCMULLAN/PMC INSET, ©PATRICK MCMULLAN/OWEN HOFFMANN/PMC
health care is vitally important to all Americans, and recognizing that Southampton Hospital was critically important to the community, I decided to become involved. Then, as an animal lover, I was drawn to the Southampton Animal Shelter and the work it does. In the Hamptons, my focus has been improving health care for all those living in the community and then care of unwanted animals. What do you feel are the most pressing charitable needs in the Hamptons now? Health care is always vital, so supporting Southampton Hospital is important to me and my family.
Shafiroff with Beth Stern and Jonathan McCann at the Southampton Animal Shelter’s Unconditional Love Gala in 2015.
As is animal welfare, which is why I support Southampton Animal Shelter and ARF— there are hundreds of homeless animals in the Hamptons that need attention and help. I also think the Parrish Art Museum can always use support, so we do always what we can for them. We try to support as many good causes as possible since there are so many in need. Is it easier to get people to participate in charity events in the Hamptons, most of which take place on weekends, than in New York? I would not say that it is easier. People gravitate to charities where they believe there is a fit, and if they believe in a cause they will feel more compelled to participate. How many events do you attend on weekends? Several. For me, it is important to show support for different charities, not just the ones I am involved with. It is a great privilege to be able to support so many causes. What are your favorite Hamptons spots to get away from it all? Home and then the exquisite beaches. The Hamptons have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

GENEROUS BENEFACTORS FOR HAMPTONS CAUSES Chuck Scarborough, the highly regarded NBC television journalist, and Ellen Ward Scarborough, an antiques dealer (Ellen Ward Scarborough Antiques is in Stamford, CT), are renowned for their generosity and extensive contributions to Hamptons and New York philanthropies. How long have you been going to the Hamptons? Chuck has been going to the Hamptons since he was introduced to its charming hamlets, pristine beaches, and cultural delights 36 years ago. I joined him when we began dating 23 years ago. What charity and cultural events will you be involved with this summer? We are hosting the annual Southampton Association fund-raiser in June. It is a wonderful organization devoted to preserving the unique architectural and cultural heritage of the village, a task that has never been more important. The welfare of animals is also high on our list of priorities. I serve on the boards of the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) and Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue. SASF, the municipal shelter for 22 towns, was on the brink of closing several years ago until Susan Allen and a small group of dedicated women stepped in to save it. Gimme Shelter, founded and lovingly run by Michelle Neufeld Montak, rescues animals from death row in high-kill shelters.

This vital community asset has made remarkable strides over the past two decades, thanks to the generosity of our neighbors and the superb leadership of Bob Chaloner.
We try “ to preserve as
much time as possible for close friends and family.
How many events are you asked to each weekend and how many do you go to? Aside from the charities listed above and the occasional dinner or cocktail party, we try to preserve as much time as possible for ourselves, close friends, and family—not that we are awash in invitations, mind you. As you stroll toward the water, the chaotic energy and attendant noise of the Southampton summer fade away. A plover might flit by. Egrets stand like statues eyeing the reeds. Ospreys attend their young in a towering nest. Crabs scuttle into their holes. The bay’s waters lap gently at the shore as mute swans cruise slowly by. Are you feeling thoroughly relaxed
and at peace with the world yet? Favorite beach: Cryder, primarily because of its easy proximity. We love taking the dogs for long walks along the shore. Favorite restaurant: Silver’s, hands-down. Chef-proprietor Garrett Wellins is a magician in the kitchen and a delightful host.

POWER COUPLE IN SAGAPONACK Prior to founding the William Macklowe Company, Billy Macklowe was a partner in Macklowe Properties. His wife, Julie, a philanthropist and investor, is founder of vbeauté, a Swiss botanicals skin care line. They are one of the most stylish couples on the East End. How long have you been going to the Hamptons? My whole life. When I was growing up, I lived on a sailboat. My parents bought a small sailboat the year prior to my birth and that (and subsequent boats over the ensuing years) was our home. We kept the boat in Three Mile Harbor and that served as our base. Prior to settling in Sagaponack, we had two homes in East Hampton. Why do you live in Sagaponack? For us, Sagaponack is the most beautiful Hampton, as it has the largest amount of open space. The vistas, air, light, and sunsets are unrivaled. How are the Hamptons important to your respective businesses? The Hamptons uniquely blend the worlds of commerce, culture, and fashion in a way that no other community does, and this provides for the ability to relax and be connected at the same time, whether one is at a beach, playing golf, or riding a wave. In a pinch, you are only 35 minutes or two hours from the city. What do you predict for Hamptons real estate in the next two to three years? Values should continue to firm and hold steady, as the sales market seems to be gravitating away from land to teardowns. Julie, are there any plans for Hamptons activations for vbeauté? There are exciting plans ahead that will be announced soon, so stay tuned for fall! Favorite secret spot in the Hamptons? We cannot divulge that! A hint would be that it involves beach and water. Favorite beach: Peter’s Pond. Favorite restaurant: It’s a toss-up between Nick & Toni’s and Topping Rose. Definitely Town Line BBQ for our daughter, Zoe.

is pretty incredible.
Yes, we are definitely seeing millennials flock out east. The Hamptons are the perfect setting to unwind in and meet new and interesting people you might not otherwise have a chance to meet in the city. Whether surfing in Montauk, sipping rosé at Wölffer, or honoring an important cause, our generation is embracing both the fun and the fulfilling aspects that the Hamptons have to offer. For evidence, look no further than the packed (LIRR) Cannonball train out east on Fridays. Why are the Hamptons important to your business pursuits and philanthropy? The Hamptons are first and foremost a home for us. However, the area has a high

EAST END TASTEMAKER Fashion designer Joey Wolffer ( joeywolffer.com, formerly The Styleliner) is also a winemaker and co-owner of the Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack and the Wolffer Estate restaurants in Sag Harbor and Amagansett. How long has your family been in the Hamptons? Nearly 40 years. My mother and father moved our family out east when my father, Christian, was first getting underway with the winery. I grew up with two very dynamic parents who loved to host and entertain. The kitchen was always full of guests and we were exposed to a lot of colorful personalities. Which is your favorite Hampton? Sag Harbor! It is the perfect location for my growing family, and it’s a year-round community. I am close to the office and my store, so I can easily pop home for lunch with my daughter, Nell. How has Hamptons style contributed to your design point of view? While I love a good globe-trot and pulling new ideas from various cultures, the main source of my inspiration stems from growing up in the Hamptons, where it was very carefree and very bohemian. What Hampton charity/cultural events will you be involved with this summer? I’m really excited to be on the board of the Parrish Art Museum and working with them again, as well as Madoo Conservancy—they have a beautiful garden conservatory on the site of a former artist’s residence. We always support their Much Ado About Madoo benefit. And I love CMEE (the Children’s Museum of the East End). How many events are you asked to each weekend? Well, there are so many great events and fund-raisers in the Hamptons and in the city, where we have an apartment. I wish I could go to all of them, but juggling multiple businesses and raising a young daughter means that I get pulled in many directions. I wish I could go to everything!
Where are your clothes available in the Hamptons? The Styleliner clothes are available at my new year-round store in Sag Harbor. I also just opened a pop-up in Culver City, California, with Platform! And we have a shop in Nantucket!

What’s new for summer 2017 from Wölffer winery? FASHION AND FAMILY TIME Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard are sisters-inlaw behind the eponymous brand, Veronica Beard (popular with Hamptons style mavens, among them Gwyneth Paltrow), known for its modern take on classic American sportswear. Another well-known member of the family on the East End is Peter Beard, the Montaukbased photographer and artist. How long have you been going to the Hamptons? Wow, since 1996. We had a share. Years later, we bought and rebuilt a little cottage by the bay and have since had five kids! What Hampton charity/cultural events will you be involved with this summer? The Beard family has supported Good+ for a long time, and Jessica Seinfeld is a true inspiration—she is the best mom, wife, and friend. Also, attending a Peter Beard exhibit or an afternoon exploring on his cliff. The kids love driving out to Montauk to visit Uncle Peter. They have grown up with this ritual. How many events are you asked to each weekend and how many do you go to? We are invited to a lot of events, and we try to support friends as much as we can. How has Hamptons style—easy summer glamour—contributed to your design point of view? The beauty of the Hamptons is that you can be casual or glamourous or both at the same time! I love wearing a sequined jacket with distressed jeans, or a little dress with bare feet on the beach. Anything goes, and people bring it! Where are your clothes available in the Hamptons? Veronica Beard is sold at Intermix, Tenet, Lifestyle, and Kirna Zabête. At night, with a permit, you can drive your jeep on the beach, which is our favorite thing to do, and build a campfire. Among PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter’s most compelling features is its first-of-its-kind Upper Deck, home to chic resort-style pools, private poolside bungalows and beds, a premier sports and entertainment complex and elite state-of-the-art workout facilities including a boxing studio, aerobics and yoga studio. PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter has curated a dynamic array of action-packed amenities unrivaled by any other condominium in the world. “We made sure to create the perfect yin and yang for residents. You have these state-of-the-art fitness amenities to get a good workout in, but then you also have these beautiful relaxation gardens and spas to relax and wind down with the feeling of being at a five-star spa resort,” Kodsi says. The tower will also introduce a signature new concept of 30 guest suites located on the lower levels of the building exclusively for purchase of PARAMOUNT residents. Inspired by the world’s most renowned luxury resorts in Asia and Europe, the guest suites will offer deluxe one and two-bedroom floor plans. Providing the same superb, ultra-luxurious amenities of the residential tower, guests will enjoy many of the PARAMOUNTperks in the comfort of their own space. It’s hard to resist the appeal of PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter. Nestled in the heart of Miami’s legendary downtown, with large multi-use units and luxurious resort-style amenities, owning a unit in the signature tower is almost a steal. “We have the largest units in Miami with penthouse-like amenities offered to the entire residential community, not just a select few,” Kodsi explains. “We’ve created a condominium tower that offers residents the comfort of large-living spaces—a home in the sky—where else in the city would you be able to find that?” JAM ROOM EVENT Pictured above: Dan Kodsi, Art Falcone, Peggy Fucci and Nitin Motwani attend PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter’s Jam Room Event celebrating the project’s unique karaokefriendly Jam Room amenity.

One of the spring social season’s most anticipated events, the annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon, otherwise known as the “hat luncheon,” took place in Central Park’s Conservatory Garden (105th Street and Fifth Avenue). It was hosted by the Women’s Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Central Park Conservancy. More than 1,200 guests turned out for the event, now in its 35th year, in Ascot-ready attire: a broad range of colorful hats. In honor of the anniversary, the Women’s Committee had committed to raise at least $5 million toward a $10 million initiative to restore the Conservatory Garden, Central Park’s six-acre masterwork of formal garden design and the home of the luncheon. Suzie Aijala, president of the Women’s Committee, was joined by luncheon Chairpersons Shelley Carr, Norma Dana, Beth Dozoretz, and Sima Ghadamian. This year the committee honored Angela E. Thompson, Amanda Thompson Riegel, The Thompson Family Foundation, and Karen Thornwell May. J.P. Morgan, represented by Kelly C. Coffey, CEO of the U.S. Private Bank, served as the Corporate Honoree. Michael Kors was the event sponsor. “The Women’s Committee is proud to have played an important role in the restoration and ongoing care of Central Park over the past 35 years,” said committee president Suzie Aijala. “As we celebrate the great tradition of the Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon, we reflect on how Central Park has never been more beautiful or has had a brighter future.”

Haute Living and Jason of Beverly Hills celebrated Malin Akerman, the star of the hit Showtime series Billions, who appeared on the April/May cover of Haute Living New York at the stylish Southeast Asian restaurant E.P. & L.P. in West Hollywood. The celebration kicked off with a cocktail hour, where guests mingled and sipped on handcrafted libations. Akerman arrived with boyfriend Jack Donnelly. In addition to her work on Billions, Akerman had much to celebrate, including indie film The Ticket, which debuted in April, and her recent signing for the movie Rampage with The Rock and Naomie Harris. Akerman was all smiles throughout the night and graciously engaged with all the guests at the dinner that followed cocktails. Guests who attended the intimate affair included Haute Living cofounder Seth Semilof, Editor-in-Chief Laura Schreffler, Arielle Kebbel, Peter Mensah, Jason Arasheban, Molly Fishkin, Debbie Levin, Nicol Paone, Alex Yetman, Ryan Catwright, Adam Campbell, Abbas Behbehani, and Crime by Design. The LuxuryBEAT
BY CATHERINE SABINO
A FAMOUS FIT Fitness and wellness mogul Tracy Anderson, known for her A-list celebrity clientele and her popular Tracy Anderson workout method, divides her time between the Hamptons and New York. How have the Hamptons been important to your business? I ask clients to focus on their results year-round, which means I need to know them well. Many people living in the city choose the Hamptons for a slower pace, but that doesn’t mean leaving your healthy routine behind. I wanted to make certain the very dedicated audience I have was supported in the places they truly call home. I have two Hamptons studios to mirror my two city studios, so my clients can have the consistent support their bodies need. I believe the Hamptons are one of the best places to go to for healing and taking on a new life stance.

That said, I create the perfect sweat for any red-carpet glow, but you earn it. Which sports best support or complement your workout routines? What is so great about the Hamptons is there are so many opportunities to be physical--surfing, biking, hiking, paddle boarding, tennis, or even playing a game of soccer in the yard. All professional athletes have their focused workout time and their game time. My workout supports your your ability to be physically present and available to do anything.
