hris Bridges, better known to the public as Ludacris, has been in the entertainment business almost 20 years. He has nine studio albums, the 10th due out next year, and has been an integral part of the Fast & Furious franchise, with the latest sequel slated to be released April 2020. When Bridges is not filming or performing, the focus is on his philanthropic endeavors and his family. Always choosing his family above all else and keeping his passions close to the chest, the father of three still has big dreams and encourages us to dream bigger than we can see. He claims that his secret to success is being able to seize every opportunity, which has afforded him to live his wildest dreams and continue to do so. Here, the multifaceted performer sits down with Haute Living and gives us an inside look into the values and discipline that has gotten him where he is today. It looks like 2020 will be a monster year for you. Tell us more about that. Yes, this will be a big year for me. It’s the 20-year anniversary of my music career, and I will be releasing my 10th studio album. We start filming Fast & Furious 9 in May this year, and that film is scheduled to be released May 2020. Anything you can share about the storyline? I wish I could! They give us the script two weeks before we start shooting, and we make changes while we are shooting. I wish I could share more. Are you working on any other film projects? I did two independent movies last year. One was called Ride directed by Alex Ranarivelo, and that is circulating in the film festival circuit right now. And the other movie I did―that was also independent and was screened at Sundance―was John Henry, in which I starred with Terry Crews and will be coming out next year. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 17
You can only imagine as far as you can see or a little further. Why not look way past your wildest dreams and reach for that?
Most people don’t realize how hard you work and how many shows you book. How do you balance work with family? I guess humbly speaking, having a private plane helps tremendously. If I have a show in Chicago, I leave Atlanta at 6 p.m., and I can be back in Atlanta at 2 in the morning―sometimes even quicker than that. It’s just like a regular job. When I have to travel really far, that’s a little different. I guess it’s more of a choice. I’m blessed that I have the kind of job that I can control my own schedule and do the things that I want to do. If it requires me being away from my family too long, then I consider not doing that or figure out a way to bring it home or closer to the family. And luckily, most of the things that are shot now are in Atlanta, as it has become the Hollywood of the South, so I don’t have to go too far anymore. Movies are shot here [plus] television shows, so everything I pretty much need to do is here. And if I am gone for more than two or three days—that may be an L.A. trip, or if I have to go out of the country—but for the most part it’s a balance of choice, which is me saying I don’t want to be away too long―and I can’t be away too long. How has being a father to three girls impacted you as a man and as an artist? I think having [daughters] has made me be more aware of the world, its current state and how things are shaping up. It’s made me more of a protector. I’ve always been a provider, but I want to be more in their lives, teaching them game for the time that boys do come into their lives, because I know every trick in the book, so I have to pass on the knowledge. The good thing is I am working on something that I can’t really talk about; but it will show everyone the tremendous influence that my daughters have had on my life that will be out in 2020―long story short―without giving away too much information. It’s impacted me so much to have daughters that I have created businesses centered by and around them. What are you most passionate about? Right now, the two things that I can’t talk about are influenced by my daughters. At this point, it’s giving back and trying to teach the youth the secrets to my success and the lessons that have come from my successes and failures. Giving the wisdom and the game to anyone who wants to listen and then being competitive―I always want to reinvent myself. I’m passionate about the music that I’m releasing next year, the movies―I was in an Oscar-winning movie. The love for entertainment and being able to live out my dreams in its many forms. I think so many people dream of being a Hollywood movie star or a rock star, and in some sense, I’ve been able to still be living out both of those dreams and to be able to continue pursuing them.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Cheat meals! I’ve gotten to the point where I am working out a lot and really loving the whole gym rat and healthy life. I eat really healthy. I even cook for myself these days, which is crazy because I used to never do that. So basically, the one thing that I can’t live without because I eat so clean and I’m so disciplined is when I can cheat―on Sundays I have these meals, and that can entail anything from eating pizza, pasta or chicken parmigiana, and of course you have to have your chocolate cake and your cheesecake. I mean I go all the way in. What is your idea of luxury? The simple things in life, believe it or not, because people may automatically think riches, equating luxury to monetary value. To me, it is having the basic necessities and feeling comfortable. Like luxury is having on a clean pair of underwear every day; some people can’t afford that. Or having clean water, or having food to eat and having many choices of that food. And having a loving family―that is luxury to me. What’s left on your bucket list? Winning an Oscar. That is definitely at the top of the list. I have to figure that out [laughs]. The good news is, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman and Samuel [L.] Jackson, I have about a good 40 years to figure that out. You’ve been entertaining for almost 20 years. When you look at your body of work, what do you want your legacy to be? I want my legacy to be multifaceted. Whether it was 10 albums, being in Oscar-winning movies, winning People’s Choice Awards, Grammys, hosting the Billboard Awards multiple times, producing Fear Factor on MTV… just being a multifaceted individual taking advantage of all things entertainment that I’m passionate about. If you could give 20-year-old Chris Bridges any advice, what would it be? I would say keep dreaming and dream bigger. I think when we are told to dream bigger, you may say, “I want to become a billionaire,” but what’s keeping you from saying, “I want to become a trillionaire.” You can only imagine as far as you can see or a little further. Why not look way past your wildest dreams and reach for that?

THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FOOD NETWORK
& Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) is back once again for an all-star lineup of world-renowned culinary and vintner names merging together the best that food and wine has to offer. In light of the current climate of our world, the festival has placed special emphasis this year on the industry’s greatest female powerhouses, including Tribute Dinner honorees Nancy Silverton and Rhonda Carano. Here, we chat with the master chefs and vintners to get the inside scoop on this year’s upcoming festival, what they’re most looking forward to, why female empowerment is important in the industry and more. NANCY SILVERTON & RHONDA CARANO: How does it feel to be honored at this year’s SOBEWFF Tribute Dinner? NS: Perhaps it sounds a bit corny, but it really is an honor to be acknowledged by SOBEWFF because I have long admired the work they do. RC: I am incredibly honored and humbled to be chosen, along with Nancy Silverton, as an honoree at the 18th Annual SOBEWFF. To have been selected to join past recipients whom I have long admired and respected is an enormous compliment. It’s the first time they are honoring two females at Tribute Dinner. How does that make you feel? NS: I feel honored, but I must say that I have always believed that I am a chef. Not a female chef, but simply a chef. I was extremely fortunate to come of age in kitchens that respected the talent of the cook. 22 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
RC: Celebrating women across all hospitality and tourism disciplines is inspiring for future generations. I believe it is important to recognize women’s contribution and leadership roles in an industry that for many years had a scarcity of women. Now that the glass ceiling has been broken, it is deserving for women to push forward. What does that say about the changes taking place in the industry right now? NS: Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a cockroach to force someone to clean the house. It started with Harvey Weinstein and obviously hit our industry hard, my own business included. From now on, that behavior will simply not be tolerated at any level. RC: Business in general is changing as we speak with technology, culture and, yes, equality for both women and men in today’s workplace. The competitive landscape we live in is complex with many faces at play. For years, women had to work harder to receive the same recognition as men. In today’s wine and spirits industry, I see young, energetic, bright, knowledgeable women taking their place next to men as owners, winemakers and leaders with valued respect and appreciation. It’s refreshing and exciting to see their outlooks and approach to the wine business. What are some of the toughest challenges you’ve had to face in your career? NS: I have been fortunate not to be a victim of sexual harassment, so my challenges were ones I embraced such as making the dishes I created taste better and better.
RC: Being recognized for my worth to the organization. In my particular case, I had two career paths: one in the gaming/hospitality world, and then being a winery owner since the early 1980s, both of which have been male-dominated industries. Coming from an Italian family, men were the breadwinners, so I struggled with my own feelings of inadequacy. In my heart of hearts, though, I knew I could do the same work just as well. I think this, along with my determined and ambitious personality, are why I continue to push myself to this day. What advice do you have for young women looking to follow in your path? NS: Know and, more importantly, want the path to be difficult because it will be. Once you realize that and you expect difficulties, they won’t knock you out. They might occasionally knock you down, but you’ll get right back up and keep on cooking. RC: Know your worth and go for it! Follow your dreams. Make sure your life is balanced… in health, wellness, family and friends, and never stop exploring new ideas and interacting with fellow workers and customers. This year, SOBEWFF is putting a major focus on female chefs. What does this say about the climate of the industry? NINA COMPTON, CHEF/OWNER, COMPÈRE LAPIN AND BYWATER AMERICAN BISTRO: I think the climate in the industry is shifting in a positive direction. The focus lately has been to uplift female chefs―which is great―but the focus should
really be about making it an equal playing field for all chefs. When I entered the industry, I always thought of myself as a cook or a chef, not a “female chef” because we don’t categorize chefs based on their gender. We are chefs, so let’s start recognizing chefs for their talent instead of their gender.
received. I’m sure I missed out on certain positions that men were chosen for. I even remember flying out to Los Angeles for a show that I really wanted to be part of and was told by a female producer in my ear that they really didn’t want a woman chef for the role as they looking for really strong personalities and individuals. Male chefs have most definitely dominated the workplace, but it’s exciting to see more and more woman succeeding. To be clear, we’re not looking to replace the men, we’re just looking to join them.
ALEX GUARNASCHELLI, EXECUTIVE CHEF, BUTTER RESTAURANT: I think it’s wonderful that we are giving more space for women in all areas of the conversation surrounding the topic of food. I think we should really pay less attention to gender and just let the people have exciting conversations about food do just that. That said, it’s also wonderful to hear more from women in the industry. It will likely encourage more women to believe they can join us. I also want to add that [SOBEWFF founder] Lee Schrager always has his finger on the pulse of everything! I’m not surprised that he has brought this great idea to fruition for the festival. SAMANTHA “SAM” CARROLL, CHEF/ OWNER, SAC-A-LAIT AND HOT TAILS: To me, it says that we are in a season of change and acknowledgment. A lot of restaurants and business owners are paying more attention to what is happening in their kitchens and businesses, and making the necessary changes to improve things for the better. JANINE BOOTH, CHEF/PARTNER, STILTSVILLE FISH BAR: The climate is certainly evolving, and the culture in kitchens in general is adapting, which is definitely encouraging more women to step into the industry. I am really inspired by this movement, and it is so great to see female chefs getting a chance to be celebrated for their work. Currently at Stiltsville Fish Bar alone, almost 3/4s of our cooks are female, and it is amazing! Services are smooth, egos are kept to a minimum and you see a feminine touch and finesse on every plate leaving the kitchen.
Do you think this signifies a big change in our society? ALEX GUARNASCHELLI: I think we are looking at a lot of big shifts in the industry. I am hoping for change―always. Not just with gender questions but with safety. Nurturing a culture of respect. Cooking is manual labor as much as it is art. That’s what we shouldn’t forget. Shelling a piping-hot lobster with your bare hands is just as challenging as putting it on a plate with tweezers and the right sauce! ANGIE MAR, CHEF/OWNER, THE BEATRICE INN: I think we are in a tremendously difficult time in the industry, but it’s exciting to see the change that is coming around. I have never been of the mindset that gender should be a topic of discussion in this industry. For me, that is one of the beauties of this industry. Food should be genderless; it should be raceless; it should be a great equalizer that brings everyone to the table. What struggles have women had to face in the culinary industry? NINA COMPTON: Being a woman in the industry, your skills are constantly doubted, but you have to believe in yourself and believe that failure is not an option. We have to support each other, and I truly believe in strength in numbers.
PHOTOS COURTESY OF SOBEWFF
JANINE BOOTH: The industry in general is filled with challenges. Long hours, stressful conditions, tight time constraints, the constant pressure of putting up perfectly prepared food―dish after dish. It is a tough industry for everyone, no matter how passionate you are. Women used to be heavily outnumbered in a very masculine culture, but as things progress we are seeing this culture find balance, and I believe that women are the source of this balance.
MICHELLE BERNSTEIN: I think people just need to realize that we truly are equal in intelligence, strength, emotion and finally in capability. Who have been some of your mentors/ culinary icons? NINA COMPTON: There are many great chefs I have worked with and lucky to call my mentors, like Daniel Boulud, Scott Conant and Norman Van Aken. I’ve become close to other chefs I admire like Dominique Crenn and Traci Des Jardins. What are you most looking forward to during SOBEWFF? ALEX GUARNASCHELLI: Honestly, I love what this does for the cause it supports. I love the energy of bringing so many people from all around the United States together to such a beautiful place to celebrate food and continue great conversations!
MICHELLE BERNSTEIN, CHEF/OWNER MBC CATERING/CRUMB ON PARCHMENT: We all face struggles in the culinary industry. I don’t know if women face more struggles than men, but we face different ones. One of the hardest things I ever encountered was becoming a mother and at the same time thriving in my career and continuing the workload as I did before my son came into my life. I can only account for myself and say that I was most definitely underpaid up until the last time I worked for someone else. I never received the same perks that my male counterparts @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 23

{SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL } TAO PARK CITY
TAO Group returned for its 11th year to the Sundance Film Festival with TAO Park City presented by Stella Artois at The Yard. The first of its three-night pop-up kicked off on Friday, January 25. This year, Casamigos served up cocktails and bottle service, warming guests from the inside out against Park City’s bitter winter weather. DJ Ruckus kept the party going well into the night as notable guests made their way into the exclusive nightclub experience. Gerard Butler arrived with fellow producer Alan Siegel, both at Sundance to present their film Them That Follow. Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan posted up alongside If Beale Street Could Talk actress KiKi Layne and Emmy award-winner Lena Waithe at a VIP table, where they toasted over rounds of Casamigos. Shailene Woodley arrived arm in arm with friend and Shameless star Isidora Goreshter and shared a bucket of Stella Artois as they danced the night away. Deep into the party, rapper G-Eazy showed up with a group of friends and surprised the crowd by jumping behind the DJ booth and getting on the mic. Flanked by ski-bunny go-go dancers, he performed his newest track, “My Year,” and hits including “No Limit” while grabbing fans’ phones and taking videos and selfies during his impromptu performance. Other celebrity guests at TAO Park City on Friday night included: David Arquette, Marshmello, Black Panther and Training Day star Denzel Whitaker, YouTube’s Liza on Demand star Liza Koshy, Angie Martinez, former NBA player Baron Davis, Utah Jazz’s Boris Diaw and Dallas Cowboys’ Tyron Smith.
THE IMDB STUDIO
Hilary Swank, Zac Efron, Emma Roberts, Lily Collins, Jenny Slate, Danielle Macdonald, Alex Sharp, Patty Jenkins, Zach Galifianakis and more sat down for exclusive interviews with host Kevin Smith at the IMDB Studio. Efron debuted his platinum-blond haircut while discussing his portrayal of Ted Bundy for the highly anticipated Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Macdonald recalled her hit roles in Netflix original films Bird Box and Dumplin while gushing about meeting Dolly Parton. Eiza González confirmed that Edgar Wright is doing a
Baby Driver 2 and has already re-written the script. Meanwhile, Armie Hammer revealed that there is video somewhere of him in an epic Batman costume and begged for someone to share with him!
INDIEWIRE STUDIO
IndieWire headed to Main Street for its inaugural The IndieWire Studio at Sundance Presented by Dropbox. The festival’s top filmmakers and talent were interviewed about their upcoming films, including Anna Chlumsky (Hala), Awkwafina (The Farewell), Billy Crudup (After the Wedding), Cameron Crowe (David Crosby: Remember My Name), Demi Moore (Corporate Animals), Jon Hamm (The Report), Naomi Watts (Luce, The Wolf Hour) and more.
PIZZA HUT X LEGION M LOUNGE PARK CITY
During festival weekend, Pizza Hut and Legion M—the world’s first fan-owned entertainment company— invested in the creators of culture by giving top entertainment industry talent, on and off-screen, a place to relax and refuel in the heart of Main Street at the Pizza Hut x Legion M Lounge. Guests spent the day warming up with a hot slice by Pizza Hut while sipping signature cocktails including mulled wine and delightful Bloody Marys. Cinema’s elite including Armie Hammer, Jenny Slate, Zach Galifianakis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kyra Sedgwick, Sanaa Lathan, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Roberts, Awkwafina, Milla Jovovich, David Oyelowo, Storm Reid, Eiza González, Karan Soni, Danielle Macdonald, Ray Romano, Hilary Swank, Mark Duplass, Renée Elise Goldsberry, KiKi Layne, Richard Kind, Nick Robinson, Michael Urie, Natalia Dyer, Zazie Beetz, Chester Algernal Gordon, Elegance Bratton, Kelly Price and more enjoyed slices while taking a break from moviegoing (and movie promoting).
LYFT LOUNGE
Lyft has been ferrying the stars around Park City, and to introduce itself as the chosen mode of transportation, the company invited guests such as David Arquette, Danielle Brooks, Tony Hale, Phoebe Robinson, Alia Shawkat, Reggie Watts, Michael Urie, Ken Barnett, Darren Darnborough and Michael Hsu Rosen to a
Sundance Welcome party, where they enjoyed cocktails and a DJ set by Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem.
KAOS DAY & NIGHTCLUB BRINGS LAS VEGAS TO PARK CITY
Diplo, Marshmello and G-Eazy performed at KAOS Day & Nightclub, bringing a Las Vegas vibe to Park City for sold-out, late-night performances.
THE LAST CALL LOUNGE AT THE MUSIC IN FILM SUMMIT
The Music in Film Summit presented by Last Call at Park City Live during the Film Festival weekend was a haven for guests to enjoy Last Call Elixir beverages, complimentary crafted cocktails and Lemon Perfect cold-pressed lemon water. Topshop Topman Personal Styling experts were also on hand to get guests snow season-ready. Actors Peter Sarsgaard and Tony Revolori joined the cast and executives of their film The Sound of Silence for a panel discussion led by Ben Lyons; the film tells the story of a successful “house tuner” in New York City who calibrates the sounds in people’s homes in order to adjust their moods. The lounge also hosted a discussion of Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men with director Sacha Jenkins and executive producer Peter Scalettar. The documentary tells the story of the Wu-Tang Clan, with never-before-seen footage and interviews recounting the obstacles traversed to stay united as one Wu family. Terrence J, Jessie Williams, Angie Martinez and Gina Torres were all spotted in the COMPLEX Studio before heading to the Topshop Topman Personal Shopping Styling Studio. Shameless stars Jeremy Allen White, Steve Howey and Shanola Hampton popped into the Music in Film Summit presented by Last Call to support Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha for her film Blinded by The Light, the true story of Bruce Springsteen’s inspirational influence on a young Muslim boy growing up in Britain. The Shameless crew also enjoyed The Culture of Music Today panel with DJ Ryan Best, DJ Spider, Reggie Watts, DJ Michelle Pesce and DJ Ana Calderone. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 27

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR FOR DIOR MEN KIM JONES SHOWCASES HIS WINTER 2019-2020 COLLECTION AT PARIS FASHION WEEK. BY DEYVANSHI MASRANI
30 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
DIOR MEN ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Kim Jones has done it again, this time with his Winter 2019-2020 collection, which debuted at Paris Fashion Week. Drawing inspiration from the House of Dior’s couture heritage, Jones reimagined and reinvented some of the Maison’s most recognizable shapes, techniques, materials and ethos, blending them together with his exploration of Christian Dior himself, particularly his history as an Avant-Garde galleries. Some of those recognizable Dior symbols, materials and finishes featured in the collection include Monsieur Dior’s beloved panthère, tiger and leopard prints in knitwear and intarsia furs, silks, structured tailoring, drapery, cashmeres, lace, and even nylon, all coupled with cutting-edge technology, giving some fabrics a highgloss sheen. The color palette is signature Dior, with shades of blue, bisque, gray and of course, black. Continuing the House and Jones’ adoration for the world of art, Kim Jones partnered with world-renowned Raymond Pettibon for the collection, using some of his existing drawings and some brand new works that were specially created in various prints, knits, jacquards and hand-embroideries. The jewelry—made by Yoon Ahn—also pays homage to Christian Dior’s fascination with the world of superstition, featuring various, eyecatching charms. Accessories continue to play a big part in the Dior Men world, where the iconic Dior Saddle Bag is again translated for a more masculine finish. This time, Jones used nylon and lush, leopardpatterned mink for the new cross-body style. The show also presented backpacks, cases and even utility gloves. As usual, the show brought out a slew of the world’s most elite A-Listers, including Christina Ricci, Colton Haynes, Daniel Arsham, J Balvin, Kate Moss, Kid Cudi, Lily Allen, Miguel, Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova, Pusha T and Robert Pattinson.

HAUTE LIVING EXCLUSIVELY SHARES THE FENDI RELAUNCH OF ITS ICONIC BAGUETTE VIA A SERIES OF MINI MOVIES, WITH SEX AND THE CITY’S SARAH JESSICA PARKER MAKING A CAMEO IN THE NEW YORK EPISODE. BY DEYVANSHI MASRANI
32 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
THE BAGUETTE IS BACK! TO RE-LAUNCH its iconic Baguette bag, FENDI has debuted
a series of three movie episodes in three of its major markets—Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York—telling the tales of four fabulous friends and their quest to find their ultimate FENDI Baguette. The third episode, set in the city that never sleeps that is New York, stars four social influencers: Caro Daur, Natasha Lau, Ebonee Davis and Melissa Martinez. With the Big Apple’s bright lights serving as the backdrop, Daur comes to the realization that the vintage, purple sequined-adorned Baguette is her ultimate must-have item. As a result, the foursome speedily makes their way to the FENDI boutique, only to find that Daur’s dream bag was just sold! Not losing hope, the girls chase the buyer carrying a FENDI shopping bag down the street and stop her. When the woman turns around, it turns out to be none other than the protagonist of all protagonists, Sarah Jessica Parker herself, who—in true “Carrie Bradshaw” fashion—exclaims, “This is not a bag, it’s a Baguette!”

Q&A with social influencer Caro Daur WHAT DOES FRIENDSHIP MEAN TO YOU?
PHOTOS COURTESY OF FENDI
Friendship is a choice. It is the choice to love someone unconditionally. It’s about deciding to trust and extend yourself to be loyal in good and bad times. WHAT’S THE BEST THING YOU LIKE TO DO WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND?
Going on a road trip!
TELL US ABOUT NEW YORK. WHAT’S THE BEST HOTSPOT TO GO WITH YOUR FRIENDS?
My favorite place in New York is the Bowery hotel, it’s so cosy and it has the best vibe possible. When I travel to New York I always stay there with my friends. WHAT DOES FENDI MEAN TO YOU?
FENDI is sophisticated and timeless.
USE THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE FENDI BAGUETTE BAG?
Iconic, extraordinary and extravagant.
WOULD YOU DEFINE THE BAGUETTE AS ICONIC? WHY?
It is definitely iconic! It is artful. The baguette comes in so many different colors and fabrics. Every bag is a piece of art. It’s fun to discover all the editions—also in a cool vintage store.
ANY COOL ANECDOTE FROM THE DAY ON SET?
When we were shooting on the streets of NY there were paparazzis taking pictures everywhere. That’s also because Sarah Jessica Parker was there with us. It has been an incredible experience.

HOW TO GET A VICTORIA’S SECRET
BODY Victoria’s Secret Angels Trainer Stephen Pasterino Shares 7 Ways To Get A Victoria’s Secret Body
Secret model? Well, you’re in luck. Stephen Pasterino, the founder of New York based P.volve studio— a unique fitness method that blends physical therapy, functional science & hip-opening movements to sculpt hard-to-target areas—is sharing his secrets. We caught up with Pasterino, who trains VS Angels Devon Windsor, Blanca Padilla, and Romee Strijd, at a workout class in partnership with athleisure brand Varley, where he shared seven ways to get a Victoria’s Secret body.
1) CHEC K OUT AN INFRARED SAUNA
An infrared sauna is always on my Victoria’s Secret clients’ agenda to maintain their water weight! Whether it’s for an audition or a show, they are looking to keep water retention as low as possible. The infrared sauna is also really good for your skin, as it creates a lasting glow.
2) GET TIGHT AND TONED
The one request I get from every model is to get rid of their jiggle. It isn’t so much about size as it is about getting your muscles tight and lean, so when they walk down a runway, you see the natural contour and structure of their legs. I always focus on the thighs and arms by using my specially designed equipment – the P.band and the P.ball – that sculpts hard-to-target muscle groups, like the inner thigh and underarm.
3) FOLLOW A HEALTHY AND FILLING DIET
When it comes to diet, healthy proteins and veggies are at the top of the list with a focus on foods that are easy to digest, so there’s no bloating. My VS clients eat a lot of fish. Simple tip: blend up your veggies, so they break down easier in your body. And you don’t need to avoid carbs altogether, just be smart about the type of carbs and ingredients you put in your body – quinoa and sweet potato in moderation are great options.
46 HAUTE LIVING hauteresidence.com
4) SAY NO TO ALCOHOL
Drinking is a sure-fire way to mess with your digestive track and dehydrate your skin, so my clients give up drinking a couple weeks out from a big show.
5) INCORPORATE REST DAYS
Rest days are KEY. Sometimes my clients are working out 2 hours a day leading up to a big show, but the results really kick in (especially when it comes to getting lean) on rest days. This helps prevent their body from getting inflamed or swollen. For example, my clients will do 3 days on, 1 day off and sometimes take off the day before a casting or show.
6) ACTIV ELY LOOK AT WAYS TO RELIEV E STRESS
When it comes to looking and feeling your best, stress can be the ultimate hurdle. For many of the girls leading up to a show, eliminating stress is a high priority. Stress leads to puffiness in the skin, bloating, and unnecessary weight gain. To reduce stress, my clients try to avoid traveling, if they can, to stay in their everyday routine to ensure they are getting good quality sleep. That means avoiding going out and sticking to strict bedtimes.
7) CREATE MUSCLE DEFINITION
Thigh definition is everything when walking down the runway, so a majority of the girls come to me to create just that. My method, P.volve, provides movements that are the secret sauce to lean, strong legs and that is the main focus in every session. I love to use my heavy and light resistance bands to carve out the outer thigh, inner thigh and hips. I use a series of small, stepping patterns and legs lifts, using a high range of motion, which is the perfect formula to bring out detailed thigh and hip definition. You can check out my online streaming videos and do the same workouts I do with my VS clients at Pvolve.com.

THE COLORS AND PATTERNS TO LOOK OUT FOR “A lot of brighter colors with an earthy twist. I’m thinking mossy greens, dusty blues, ochre, and of course coral (Pantone said it first.)” – Brianna Bitton , Bitton Design Group and the designer behind Halsey’s new Los Angeles home, briannabitton.com
BEST ITEM(S) TO SPLURGE ON “Art. Every penny you spend on artwork will always yield a return. It’s one of the best investments you can make toward achieving a truly beautiful and meaningful interior design.”
WHAT WILL BE THE AESTHETIC OF 2019? “Unapologetic. People are less afraid to decorate with the things that make them happy, to defy traditional design expectations.” – Susan Rocco, The Kitchenworks, kitchenworks.com
THE NUMBER ONE DESIGN TIP “Listen to your heart, spend time filling the space and sketching around. Don’t make fast decisions, don’t rush it. Everything will come to you if you read and interact with the space. Trust yourself.” – Pepe Calderin, pepecalderin.com

THE SHAPES OF
WATER FENDI presents a gorgeous installation by Sabine Marcelis using one of its most cherished elements: water.
the Maison presented a gorgeous installation called “The Shapes of Water,” designed by Sabine Marcelis. Paying homage to one of FENDI’s most cherished and respected elements—water— Marcelis used water in all of her 10 sculptures, each drawing inspiration from a different FENDI symbol, including the recognizable FF logo, the brand’s headquarters and even its quintessential Peekaboo bag, also celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Dutch designer uses cast resin and a warm color palette to mirror the Roman skies. I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Marcelis, as she showcased her gorgeous installation at the FENDI booth at this year’s Design Miami/. Walk me through each of the pieces and explain your thought process behind the installation as a whole. FENDI approached me to do the installation this year and looking at all the past years, I had first thought that I wasn’t too keen on doing furniture and I always try to do something more different and unexpected. So when I went to the headquarters and toured the ateliers and really got to dive into the history of the brand, this theme of water kept popping up. I was trying to find something unique that would serve as a starting point for the project. Then the first ever fashion movie made was made by FENDI in the ’70s and it’s called L’Histoire D’Eau and it’s about water with the FENDI Fountains Foundation, so I though it’d be amazing to work with water as a material. So I pitched it to them thinking they’d never go for it but they were really excited and open to it, which was super nice. Then together with the FENDI team and Silvia, we sort of started thinking about how to link it to the brand even more, so we identified 10 icons. So we have the logo, which is interpreted twice, the Peekaboo bag, obviously because it’s the 10-year anniversary, and then the “Tegole”…..Also the brand is so linked to Rome, where they have amazing sunsets. That’s actually why I placed that piece there so you can really see the headquarters as a building with the sky behind it. What does it mean for you, as a young artist, to partner with such an iconic brand on this project, seeing as how it is also its 10-year anniversary with Design Miami/? It’s a total honor, of course. I think the great thing about it is that for me, it allows me an opportunity to do something that for one, I never would’ve done out of my own free initiative because it’s so linked to the brand. I used to think that if you were working for a brand it’d 58 HAUTE LIVING hauteresidence.com
be a compromise from your own ideas. but in a project like this, it’s a sum of all parts, which just adds to the project. It’s not a compromise, it’s like two worlds coming together to create something new. For me, it was a really super opportunity to try something that I would otherwise not be able to just do on my own. How, if at all, has social media impacted your art world? Was that part of your thought process at all in your creations? I realize that Instagram has been quite an important part of why I am able to do what I do. It’s easy now for people to find me if they see me on Instagram. So now there’s a quicker link between the client and the artist than there was before. But I find it problematic that there are museums that are actually made to be “Instagrammable.” For me it was about creating a space to have an experience and light is extremely important to experience these objects. The reason we put these light boxes in the background is because it’s how we did the photoshoot and that’s how each came to its best abilities. For me it’s purely to present the world in the most optimal, physical way. What I always try to create is for someone to come and look a little bit longer, to take their time and look around each. They’re designed in a threedimensional way because they look a bit different from each angle. What about the music? Can you tell me about it? I worked with one of my good friends, a photographer, Carl Kleiner. We set up all the fountains in my house and for a week he stayed on my couch and we did the photoshoot and the film all within that week. He created the music with it as well, always knowing it was going to be presented here as part of the whole experience. It’s got a bit of a water-dripping effect but it doesn’t compete with the sound of the actual water from each fountain, it’s more of a calming experience. Why is cast resin your material of choice? It’s a material I’ve been working with for quite a long time. The beauty with working with one material for a long time is that in every project you can challenge yourself and the material a bit more. Every project is a new opportunity to go a step further. For me my fascination with this material from the beginning is that you can so readily play with the interaction of light. You can completely manipulate it to have so many different characteristics. Now it has all these reflective qualities because it’s super polished. And another material I work a lot with is glass, which has a lot of the same qualities. You can really play with it and layer it. And it’s also the perfect material to make these complicated shapes.

DESIGN
Where did you draw inspiration from for this particular project? The idea of using the FENDI icons was the initial thought and then understanding the engineering of how everything works, the objects kind of shaped themselves. I like to work very freely and let the restrictions of an object shape it itself. I also looked at a lot of sculptural works but also machinery, marine objects…a lot of random satellites of inspiration that came together to shape them. What do you hope that visitors who come to see the exhibit take away from it? I think it’s just to appreciate subtle moments of beauty, which is also why I thought it was very important to do the video. If you are not here physically, at least online or even now, if you’re not looking at the “right” things, you might actually miss these nice little moments happening. This fair is very busy and very big. I think it’s nice to slow down and zoom in a bit on some subtleties like this as well. What is your favorite piece here and why? My opinion is completely biased because my favorite piece is the one that was most difficult! It’s the one with the three boxes stacked on top of each other with the water doing a 270-degree turn. It was very difficult to put together and get it work properly so it’s like the piece that I respect the most. I’m really happy with it. It’s also the piece that I imagine can be scaled up. I would love to create that as a big public installation with a big water feature.
PHOTOS COURTESY OF CARL KLEINER
How did you decide to incorporate the water into each piece? I think it was more a matter of what different effects can be created with water. So it can be disrupted by a pattern or bubbles can go through it. Some of them were very easy. Like “Selleria,” I thought to use water for the stitching. And the “Roman Sunset” is a large piece, so we can make the water fall down the front. And of course just trying different things. So for instance, the bubbles in one piece are much bigger than another. It’s because they have a lot more space to be bigger and faster and with the other, you can see the side is only a few millimeters thick. So when the air gets pushed through, the bubbles get squished flat. What can we expect from you moving forward, both individually and with FENDI? I know that we’ll be traveling to Hong Kong for the Art Basel there, which is super nice. For me, my aim is always that with every project is a new challenge, a new scale. I hope this will evolve into bigger fountains. And aside from this project I’m doing a lot more architecturally-scaled things now, which is a different challenge with different things to take into consideration. And for the Salone [del Mobile] in Milan in April it’ll be two big installation as well. I am just upscaling a bit but still more focused on temporary special installations.

INSIDE REAL ESTATE
Three real estate market trends for 2019. I N T HE LU XU RY R EA L ES TAT E M A R K E T, W H AT ’ S H O T IS constantly changing.
Here, we take a look at three of the industry’s latest trends including cutting-edge high technology infused throughout multi-million-dollar homes and wellness amenities in some of the world’s most stunning vertical residences.
WELLNESS IS THE NEW LUXURY
Major cities like New York, Singapore, Miami, London and Los Angeles are home to some of the most stunning and state-of-the-art residence towers in the world. As residents around the world embark on their new year resolutions, health and wellness have become the most highly requested amenity features in luxury skyscrapers. Coined as the ‘new luxury,’ developers are taking wellness to the next level by creating like-minded health enthusiast living communities and incorporating immersive wellness amenities and spaces into the stunning sky homes.
VERTICAL LIVING IS AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH DEMAND
Sky homes are at an all-time high. While single homes are still being in demand across the world, more homebuyers are opting to buy homes in luxurious residence towers across the globe. The shift towards vertical living is a result of two things: major cities are running out of prime luxury land to build on horizontally and sky homes are now offering the latest in cutting-edge technologies, sophisticated design and finishes, resort-like amenities and exceptional service.
THE INFUSION OF HIGH TECHNOLOGY
There is an increase in amenities that seamlessly mix the virtual world and real world for tech-savvy residents. Golf simulators, virtual meditation and gaming are some of the top most requested high-tech amenities. High-tech homes with the latest in cutting-edge technology and security systems, while not a new concept in the market, are continuing to be requested by homebuyers in every major market. In the era of smart phones and the digital world at our finger tips, developers are beginning to come up with new innovative ideas of implementing the latest in smart-home technologies in today’s horizontal and vertical homes.

+SIHH 2019 Day 1 The Sweet Taste of a Thriving Industry BY MARTIN GREEN
WE HAD SUSPECTED IT FROM THE QUALITY OF THE
pre-releases this year, but all of our doubts were further taken away at the first day of SIHH 2019: The watch industry is thriving. There were many exciting new creations as well as beautiful interpretations of familiar models. HYT offered stunning varieties of its famous watches with its unique liquid technology. The brand paid even more attention this year than it normally already does to the finishing of its pieces. The result was an expansion of its collection that was more captivating than ever. IWC focused this year on its collection of Pilot’s Watches. Celebrating the brand’s rich history with the collection, its booth was turned into an airplane hangar, complete with a real Spitfire. One of the stars of the show was the Pilot’s

Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “Mojave Desert” with an eye-catching sand-colored ceramic case. Priced at $8,200, it shows the sensibility and strength that IWC put into its new collection, especially since this model is fitted with an automatic manufacture movement. Things got really sweet at Richard Mille, literally, since the brand focused on its ladies’ collection with themed fruit and candy. Its creations were a mixture of old-school craftsmanship combined with high-tech materials in the most attractive colors available. Each piece is crafted with an incredible eye for detail and embodies the fun element without taking away from the fact that they are truly Haute Horlogerie creations. It is further proof that the industry in general, and Richard Mille especially, are thriving.

Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Complete Calendar
+SIHH 2019 Day 2 To the Moon and Back BY MARTIN GREEN
DAY ONE OF SIHH DISPLAYED THE BALANCED ADDITIONS
Hermès Arceau L’Heure De La Lune
of the IWC Pilot collection, the super-sweet Richard Milles and HYT showing its prowess once again. On the second day, things continued at a very high level. Vacheron Constantin dazzled this year with the complex and refined Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar, but it also expanded its current collection with a wide range of blue dial varieties. The beauty of them is that each hue is tailored to the watch that they are fitted in. With the FiftySix, this gives the watch another dimension, while Vacheron Constantin also used a blue dial to introduce the very first tourbillon in the steel Overseas. This was not the only news regarding this collection―the Perpetual Calendar is now also available with a pink gold bracelet, making it even more precious than it already was. With a name like Arceau L’Heure De La Lune, a watch has to be beautiful, and this Hermès timepiece does not disappoint. The brand once again shows that beauty and technical complexity can go hand in hand. The dial shows two realistic and large moons, over which two subdials travel. These subdials indicate both the time as well as the date while at the same time doing their part in displaying the current moon phase in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. There are two choices in dials: aventurine with white subdials or meteorite with black subdials, both equally stunning yet with subtle differences in character. Ulysse Nardin also had something big in store, or actually, something smaller. With the new Freak X, one of its signature models shrank from 45 mm to 43 mm. Thanks to a revised movement, it now features a crown. This makes the watch more accessible in every way, since these changes result in the titanium model being available now for U.S. $21,000. The watch is also offered in a newly designed case in carbonium and rose gold. These changes allow a whole new customer group to enjoy one of Ulysse Nardin’s landmark pieces. It was the perfect ending of our second day at SIHH 2019.

Passion is What Drives the Industry
Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpagraphe Chronomètre Titanium
BY MARTIN GREEN
FROM EVERY ASPECT, THE MECHANICAL WATCH IS AN
obsolete instrument, yet we continue to have a love affair with it. It is, therefore, a passion that drives the industry, and that is also clear when you look at many of the exhibitors’ creations at SIHH. Due to that passion, they went above and beyond to create movements, complications, finishes and decorations that were not possible before, continuing a tradition that is almost forgotten. This passion becomes especially clear when looking at the creations of Bovet. The Tourbillon Amadeo Fleurier Virtuoso IX not only combines some of the most exquisite complications, but it also unites them in a stunning way. It almost seems like this watch is sculpted and not crafted. The beautiful dial forms a backdrop to a double time zone, big date and flying tourbillon, while Bovet was able to give the movement that makes it all possible with a 10-day power reserve. Parmigiani Fleurier is another brand that shares the same passion. With the Kalpagraphe Chronomètre Titanium, it adds another sportive watch to its collection and the very first one in a Kalpa case. The brand paid a lot of attention to
detail, which resulted in a rich and legible watch with a lot of character. The Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Enamel is truly a showcase of the capabilities of Jaeger-LeCoultre. It features a stunning petrol blue enamel dial, while the dial is perfectly balanced with the date in a subdial at 12 o’clock and the tourbillon placed at 6. At the back, we find a beautiful gold rotor that is visible through the see-through caseback of the watch. This also allows you to admire the fine finish of the different components. Passion also fuels the creativity at Urwerk. This becomes especially clear when you look at the UR-105 CT Maverick. Like this model, many of the brand’s watches feature the satellite disk time indication, but the case is now crafted from bronze, which gives it a completely new look. Urwerk also reworked the decorations, giving this watch a distinct character of its own. The brand has also announced that this will be the last version of the UR-105 that it will launch, so we can expect a new model replacing it soon.

A World of Wonders Comes to an End Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Edition
BY MARTIN GREEN
WITH THE FOURTH DAY, THE SIHH WAS SLOWLY WINDING
Cartier Privé Tonneau Skeleton Dual Time
down, but it went out with a bang. It was the only day that the fair was open to the public, who joined journalists and retailers from around the world to admire all of the marvelous watches. For us, we were delighted by what we got to see. Montblanc is expanding its 1858 collection with a few new models, including the 1858 Geosphere Limited Edition. This watch, of which Montblanc will only make 1858 pieces, features a bronze case and bezel combined with a handsome green dial. While the features haven’t changed, it is a very welcomed edition and shows that this model continues to captivate attention. While it has a lot to offer, the case is only 42 mm in diameter and 12.8 mm thick, making it very wearable. It is also perfect timepiece for an explorer because it has a water resistance of 100 meters. Cartier started off very strong this year. It introduced numerous new models, including the Tonneau Skeleton Dual Time. This handsome watch displays two time zones with only one movement. Thanks to two crowns, each time zone can be set easily. The case is slightly curved, which ensures a perfect fit on the wrist. While the watch itself is among the first that Cartier ever made, dating back to over a century ago, with this movement it looks quite modern without taking it too far. For Panerai, SIHH 2019 was all about the Submersible. This model now has its own collection within the Panerai family, and many new models joined the lineup. Among them is a limited edition that was created in collaboration with its ambassador, Mike Horn, who is dedicated to preserving nature’s beauty on Earth. The result is a case made out of recycled titanium, and the strap is made of recycled materials. In addition, Panerai now offers certain limited editions with an experience. For example, the first 19 people who buy this Submersible will join Mike Horn on an expedition. This edition of SIHH was also the last one in its current form, since Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille will not attend the fair next year. In 2020, it will also take place later in the year.

+Hublot Gives a Very Tasty Appetizer for Baselworld Proof that its passion for innovation is far from fading BY MARTIN GREEN
Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 days Red Sapphire
Hublot Big Bang Unico Golf Blue Carbon
FOR HUBLOT, BASELWORLD IS ITS MAIN SHOW, BUT THAT
doesn’t stop the brand from already giving a little appetizer in January. As a serial innovator, Hublot thrives on pushing the envelope and introducing new novelties, so don’t be surprised if there are some very serious novelties unveiled soon. The first one is commercially important since Hublot is expanding its Big Bang collection with additional 42 mm models. These versions offer white details, in either titanium or King gold, and are available with different diamond settings. It’s another tour de force by Hublot, since titanium is a challenging material to set stones in. Another novelty is the Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 days, which is now available in red sapphire. This gives the watch a completely different look because the bridges and main plate are crafted from this material. Complemented by a rubber strap in the same color, it turns the watch into a true technical eye-catcher. Hublot is the only brand capable of creating a sapphire crystal-cased watch in this color. 84 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com
The new Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 days isn’t the only Hublot watch available in sapphire: It is also in yellow. Highlighted by the tonneau case of the Spirit of Big Bang, it has an undeniable summer vibe to it. Hublot amplifies the vibe even further by giving the watch yellow hands and markers on the dial, as well as a matching rubber strap. By opting for a black crown, the pushers and screws on the bezel are united visibly with the movement to create a very harmonious piece in which the yellow sapphire shines. Hublot also introduced a new version of the Big Bang Unico Golf. It now features a case made from blue Texalium. This ultralight and very strong material is proprietary to Hublot, along with a mixture of carbon fiber with aluminum. Combined with a blue strap, it gives the timepiece a new look. With these new watches, Hublot kicks off the new year once again with a full and innovative force. Those familiar with the brand also know that this is only a mere promise of things to come in 2019.

Zenith Defy El Primero 21
A Special Celebration for an Icon Turning 50 BY MARTIN GREEN
WHEN THE ZENITH EL PRIMERO HIT THE MARKET 50 YEARS AGO IT
immediately gained the status of being a benchmark. This was not only because it was the first automatic chronograph, but it also combined an integrated column wheel and a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour. This made it possible for the watch to measure time with an accuracy of 1/10th of a second. Over the years, the movement has powered not only Zeniths―it was adopted by Rolex for its famed Daytona. However, this hasn’t stopped Zenith for improving it, and a wide variety of complications have been integrated during its illustrious career, with perhaps the most important one being the creation of the caliber El Primero 9004. Thanks to a double escapement, the movement runs at 36,000 vibrations, yet the chronograph at 360,000 vibrations. This makes it possible to measure time up to 1/100th of a second. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the El Primero, Zenith has created a special box that can hold four watches. The top part is shaped like a miniature watchmaker’s bench and comes complete with a die of the coupling-wheel bridge of the chronograph. Buyers are invited to visit the Zenith manufacture and use it to stamp two coupling-wheel bridges. One will become part of their box set, while the other one will be engraved with the name of the buyer and become part of Zenith’s historical archives. In addition, the box contains three Zenith El Primeros, starting with the A386 Revival, which was made to honor the first of this iconic chronograph from 1969. There is also the Chronomaster 2 El Primero, which features a newly designed movement, as well as a modern-design interpretation of the original model. The third watch in the box, the Defy El Primero 21, is the amazing 1/100th of a second version of the El Primero. The fourth spot for a watch is empty, but it is reserved for a new El Primero that is currently under development, which will be able to measure 1/1,000th of a second. All of the 50 owners of this limitededition anniversary box will have the option to be the first to purchase this watch when it is released. This shows that while the El Primero has five decades of history behind it, the legend is still moving forward. Zenith Chronomaster 2 El Primero

+Elite Mobility Haute Living’s Exclusive Look at How a Bombardier Comes Together BY DELLVIN ROSHON WILLIAMS
BOMBARDIER BUSINESS AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURES THE
world’s most luxurious business jets that have the largest, longest range. We know that. As a premium brand, it boasts the best product portfolio and the largest backlog in business aviation to date. We also know that. Here’s what we don’t know: how a Bombardier aircraft actually comes together. With the flagship Global 7500’s first 2018 delivery and entry-into-service firmly in the books, Haute Living takes a look at what it means to literally create world-class flight experiences out of proverbial thin air. Perhaps the secret to its success lies in a process that— until now, few have been aware of: For the Ultra-high-networth (UHNW), a Bombardier must be an extension of their personality. It masterfully weaves comfort, connectivity, innovation and expert engineering into a seamless, ultra-longrange experience. Bombardier Business Aircraft’s Industrial Design Manager Tim Fagan explains, “The specification process for personalizing a Bombardier business aircraft to completion typically takes place over several meetings.” First, the Bombardier Business Aircraft team focuses primarily on gathering information about the customer: their plans for the aircraft, frequent missions, city pairings and how many passengers would typically be aboard.
“This helps guide the overall layout of the aircraft cabin, including the number and location of seats, sofas, entertainment suites, monitors, entertainment equipment and possibly communications antennas for cabin connectivity and other optional features,” Fagan adds. “The aircraft team also proposes variations that might meet customer requirements, including bespoke features. So, these requests can also be discussed.” At this stage, the aircraft team also discusses color and material preference with the client to help guide interior design vis-à-vis personal tastes. From exotic leathers and woods, to carpets and metal finishes, the designer builds various material boards that are refined throughout the process. From here, a digital “first impression” of the future aircraft emerges. Fagan continues, “From this, the engineering team in Montreal develops a formal proposal of both the technical elements of the aircraft as well as photorealistic renderings of the design proposals. Depending on customer availability, the requirements of the design proposal and the timeline of custom material samples, multiple meetings may lead to the final aircraft configuration. And a final aircraft definition, including technical specification, visuals and material samples is presented to the customer for approval.”

Haute
JETS
LIST
As for the importance of the process, there’s a saying: ‘‘People don’t buy products; they buy meaning.’’ Fagan’s insights shed enormous light on what a Bombardier design scenario is all about. For example, the progressive development of a Global 7500 aircraft cabin from a blank sheet (with seating for up to 19 passengers) allows, on one hand, the aircraft owner to envision the aircraft and express him or herself through the poetics of product design while soaking up unparalleled access to the brand—which is what luxury is all about. On the other hand, brand-customer collaboration takes us beyond features and functions, and deeper into the dynamics between buyer motivations and the complementary technological and design-driven push for innovation. In addition, there is Bombardier’s Nuage seat, the first new seat design in business aviation in 30 years. “Seating ranks as the single-most important factor in passenger well-being on longer flights,’’ Fagan says. ‘’Unlike other aircraft seats, where only the back pivots and pushes the body forward, Nuage dips the seat as the back is reclined. This fully cradles the body and ensures optimal comfort.’’
What emerges is a spectacularly innovative approach to the business jet experience. Bombardier has focused on a process that is as holistic as it is design-driven. From distinct living areas, cabin management systems, OLED displays and extra-large windows for optimized natural light, the buyer is empowered to create an exceptionally spacious home in the sky. What’s more, the Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft families allow customers to grow her or his experience within the Bombardier Business Aircraft family. And if current trends are any indication, then we’ve only scratched the surface of what next-generation business jets can become.

builder Turquoise Yachts, formerly known as Proteksan Turquoise—the same shipyard that produced last year’s 77m M/Y GO from world-famous Ken Freivokh (of Maltese Falcon and Black Pearl fame)―introduces the shipyard’s most dramatic design to date, the 77m concept Quantum. As contemporary as it is luxurious, Quantum’s standout feature is its drive-in tender bay that doubles as a saltwater pool within a beach club, allowing guests direct sea access. The 7m fresh-water pool on the main deck, strategically positioned over the float-in lower deck pool, was designed with a hexagonalshaped glass grid, allowing sunlight to shine directly onto the beach club below. Drive-in tender garage aside, there is a starboard garage amidships that can house a large limousine tender, a 10-meter beach-landing tender and space for either a 6m watersports tender or a selection of Jet Skis. The lower deck beach club and gymnasium also have opening terraces port and starboard, as well as aft, and are accessible internally from the main saloon as well as externally via the stern platform. Lesson: Quantum opens on three sides, giving unfettered access to the sea. On the main deck, a saloon offers vast open space with a rotating seating group that can be arranged as a cinema. Haute all 14 guests—who, by the way, have optimal living quarters on the main deck in six double or twin staterooms. The pièce de résistance of the yacht is a central atrium spanning three decks, where transparent floor sections add to the feeling of total integration between decks and provides access to a central lift, which serves four decks. Two of the staterooms can be totally opened to the spacious, adjoining VIP suite, each with a private saloon and access to his and hers bathrooms. Owners have exclusive accommodations that include a semicircular family saloon on the upper deck that opens out into a panoramic terrace overlooking the pool area, as well as the sea. There is also a pantry, nanny’s cabin and a private office with direct access to the atrium, a balcony, a master stateroom with stunning 180-degree panoramic views: forward, on the sides, and a private Jacuzzi adjoining the wide touch-and-go helipad. Quantum’s profile is what makes the yacht both powerful and practical; her physics and physicality, fluid. The slightly flared bow and swoop of the hull give a certain air of sporty timelessness. Quantum is named so because she is a “quantum leap” ahead of any other yacht delivered by Turquoise Yachts. By the looks of its 2013 50.4m M/Y Ileria, 2012 47m 7 M/Y Vicky or its 2012 33m sailing yacht Simba, Quantum will not only live up to its name, but take the yachting world by storm in the process.

With two-electric motors, the Jaguar I-PACE combines impressive handling with a 234mile range, all-wheel drive and an interior design that reimagines classic Jaguar luxury craftsmanship. An impressive 0-80% charge in 85 minutes and acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds is ambitious for a car of this caliber with only 394 horsepower. The hood scoop and flowing waistline allow the car to slice through the air, while the rear diffuser minimizes drag for optimized range and stability. Equipped with everything you need for everyday life, from generous cargo space to the activity feature, a waterproof wristband that unlocks and locks the car—no need to carry keys when on the run anymore—the I-PACE is a true drivers’ car. Starting at $70,000, this eco-friendly head-turner is capable of handling any task you throw at it.
BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT CONVERTIBLE The king of grand tourers, Bentley, blew the roof off its Continental GT to create a hand-crafted masterpiece that is longer, sleeker and sexier than ever. To ensure every journey is a joy, Bentley incorporated a new range of driving technology including active all-wheel drive and driver assistance as well as a wealth of enhanced intuitive digital features including a rotating display and driving modes, which allow you to adjust the car’s performance to suit your journey, with a simple, smooth turn of a dial. At a starting price of $236,100, the new Bentley Continental GT Convertible is the luxury and comfort you seek with all the power you need in a grand tourer. 96 HAUTE LIVING hauteauto.com
LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR SVJ COUPÉ While the future of automobiles is unknown, Lamborghini continues to combine cutting-edge technology and superior design to create sports cars that deliver a driving experience like no other. The new Aventador SVJ Coupé is no exception. Fresh off the Nürburgring circuit, which saw a top speed of 6:44, the SVJ is turning heads both on and off the track. Ultra-lightweight materials give rise to enhanced aerodynamic profiles, while the technological look of carbon fiber—featured in the cockpit, doors, seats and console—combined with leather upholstery add a bold touch to the luxurious interior. Its 6.5 liter V12 churns out an impressive 770 horsepower, and with peak torque of 720 Nm, the SVJ is capable of a sprint from standstill to 62 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds, making it one of the most powerful road cars of all time. Costing around $517,770 and only 900 planned to be built (63 of which will become part of a special edition commemorating Lamborghini’s founding year, 1963), this incomparable machine breaks new dimensions, pushing supercars into the future.
AUDI E-TRON Having made its way to U.S. soil in September 2018, the Audi e-tron is already widely popular for its long-range capability and exhilarating performance with the quattro all-wheel drive. As the company’s first full-production modern electric vehicle, the e-tron adopts everything we love in an Audi, from sleek lines to sculptural LED taillights, but with the added bonus of being ecofriendly and fit for everyday life. The spacious interior has room for up to five passengers as well as generous cargo space and folding seats all packaged in a luxurious interior, complete with cutting-edge technology for an intuitive driving experience. A low center of gravity and torque output from two electric motors positioned on each axle distributes power efficiently for a smooth drive with a top track speed of 124 mph. Starting at $74,800, the e-tron is the first of three battery-electric vehicles Audi plans to debut by 2020. PHOTO COURTESY OF LAMBORGHINI PHOTO COURTESY OF BENTLEY MOTORS

PORSCHE TAYCAN Formerly known as Mission E, Porsche has finally announced the name of its first purely electric car as the Taycan. Translated as “lively young horse,” this four-door sports car is set to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds flat thanks to two permanently synchronous motors belching out 600 horsepower. Widely being called the Porsche of tomorrow, the Taycan is expected to have a range of 300 miles and a charging time of 80% in less than 15 minutes. In terms of build, the sedan adopts a slimline design with a classic flat hood and rear light strip. Inside, the cockpit feels more like a spaceship, with the absence of a transmission tunnel and the addition of a curved intuitive driver display that moves with you is just something to look forward to in the future. You will have to wait until its unveiling later this year to get an idea of a price tag and additional features.
ASTON MARTIN DBX No list is complete without including Aston Martin’s DBX, especially since this is the luxury brand’s first attempt at cashing in on the SUV market, long ruled by the Land Rover. Since its concept debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show, the DBX is generating buzz for its durability as it undergoes testing in the world’s harshest environments, from the frozen Arctic to scorching deserts in the Middle East, and of course the Nürburgring circuit. The DBX will feature a choice of two engines, a 4.0 liter V8 and a 5.2 liter V12, with rumors it plans to go hybrid at a later date. The DBX, which may get a new name, is set to be unveiled in the last quarter of 2019, and there’s no word on price just yet, but we can only assume that as an Aston Martin, it will be worth it. @hauteauto HAUTE LIVING 99

THE
HOLISTIC Haute Living sits down with co-founders of natural kids’ wellness line called Gryph & IvyRose—supermodel Karolina Kurkova and entrepreneur Rachel Finger. BY DEYVANSHI MASRANI
NEEDLESS TO SAY, BECOMING A PARENT IS A LIFE-CHANGING
experience. Co-founders of brand new, natural and herbal-based wellness product company for children called Gryph & IvyRose, supermodel Karolina Kurkova and Rachel Finger, witnessed this first-hand when they became mothers themselves. What they also uncovered, however, is that they were unable to find a natural product line that they felt really benefitted their children’s overall wellness and health, whilst also being more contemporary and luxurious. That’s when their venture, Gryph & IvyRose was born. Haute Living had the opportunity to sit down with the duo of supermoms to discuss the company, its background, what it provides and what we can expect from them in the future.
How did parenthood affect your desire to create this company/ product line? RF: In absolutely every way. Alternative wellness wasn’t necessarily even on my radar until I had my twins nearly three months early. They had some delays common to prematurity but I thought that there must be better and safer ways to deal with the issues we were having at the time and sought out acupuncture and herbs for the girls. After seeing incredible results in just a week, I knew that I wanted to create something to share with other parents and children and being able to partner with experts like Orion [Nevel] (the team’s co-founder/in-house herbalist), Dan [Atchison-Nevel] (the team’s in-house acupuncturist) and Stephen [Cowen] (the team’s in-house pediatrician) made it a no-brainer. 108 HAUTE LIVING totliving.com
PHOTOS COURTESY OF GRYPH & IVYROSE
Tell us a little bit about Gryph & IvyRose. Gryph & IvyRose was developed by parents who experienced life-changing results with herbal applications. We created a comprehensive and preventative wellness regimen for children that focused on supporting the immune function, both inside and out. Our proprietary herbal blends include functional ingredients that have been used over thousands of years, but with a twist to meet the demands of our modern children. The bath and body products focus on supporting the skin’s natural biome, the probiotics on the gut biome and our elixirs address specific challenges like sleep, mood, digestion and overall immune support.
KK: For me it was really my upbringing that influenced my desire to create a company like Gryph & IvyRose. I grew up in the Czech Republic surrounded by nature and beautiful ingredients from my grandmother’s garden. That is where I learned to appreciate the importance of quality ingredients. I then integrated those values into my boys’ wellness regimens and wanted to help create a way for other families to include quality ingredients that deliver wellness into their routines. Who is Gryph & IvyRose for? It is formulated specifically for children, so it’s for any and all that want to create healthy rituals early on in life. But the products are really effective and are a great tool for parents too, who need an immune boost, sleep or digestive support. Why do you think it is important for us to adopt more natural and holistic everyday practices and get our children involved at an early age? RF: I love the way that our pediatrician describes this necessity. He notes that while western medicine and science are incredible and often life-saving tools, it’s not a good option for daily health maintenance and non-emergency situations. We want to create lifelong tools for parents and for children to address different situations and introducing them early and teaching them about the effectiveness of natural ingredients gives them an open mind about using these safe, non-harmful tools throughout their lives. KK: I think it is important to empower and educate children so that they do not lose their touch with nature and ancient practices, especially insect a fast-paced world. To create a sense of harmony in your child’s routine is a great way to set them up for a lifetime of well-being. Tell me a bit more about who is behind the company and why each decided to come on board. RF: Orion, his father Dan (the acupuncturist) and Stephen (the pediatrician) have been connected and collaborating in their respective professions for decades. They are equally passionate and pioneers in their fields. Being able to spread education and create products to help parents and children has always been a dream of theirs. When I met them and saw the results with my children personally, I was so inspired and motivated to help share this message. Karolina and I were friends and she had also come to meet Dan and Orion and having always been exposed to natural and alternative methods, was already practicing a lot of these traditions with her boys. It’s a really dynamic and well-rounded team and I am so grateful and humbled to be a part of it. What are some of your favorite products that you offer? RF: My favorites are the “Call it a Night Sleep” elixir and the “Belly Works” elixir because of the personal successes I have had with my children, but I also love the “Daily Embrace” shampoo because it’s a convenient two-in-one and the performance is amazing. KK: I am a big fan of the chocolate hearts because they are my 4 p.m. chocolate fix but with benefits! Noah definitely loves the probiotics, both vanilla and chocolate, and he asks for them like candy. Tobin’s favorite is the “Call it a Night Sleep” elixir and even gives it to himself before bed as part of his nighttime routine. What can we expect from the brand, moving forward? We are committed to producing safe, high quality and performance-based products that address common challenges in a natural way. I’m really excited about some of the launches we have coming up this year like focus elixirs and an eczema balm. Eventually, maybe the line will expand to include adults more specifically, but our focus for now is children. @totliving HAUTE LIVING 109

CAIRO, EGYPT Although Egyptian travel hasn’t always been a go-to tourism
destination in the past due to its political instability, that’s going
to change this year in a big way thanks to the much-buzzed-about opening of Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum. GEM as it’s best
known is a $1 billion marble shrine to the country’s history that
will display—among other treasures—King Tutankhamun’s entire
5,000-piece burial collection, including his jewel-encrusted sandals and a 3,300-year-old chariot. Stay at the St. Regis Cairo, which will finally interject some buzz into Cairo’s vintage hotel scene when it opens this February on the Nile. Opulence is everywhere on
the 36-story property, such as in its hand-crafted mother-of-pearl
inlaid nightstands, sumptuous signature beds topped by exquisite Egyptian linens, bathrooms clad in light Emperador marble and a dramatic Swarovski chandelier dangling from a three-story
vaulted ceiling in the Astor Grand Ballroom. Bespoke experiences await in no less than seven food and beverage outlets, while
the two-story Iridium Spa with its vitality pools, ice rooms and adventure showers, almost demand relaxation. The traditional

MATERA, ITALY Forget Florence, the Amalfi Coast or even Rome: This year, Matera is going to be the most
buzz-worthy destination in Italy thanks to its recent accolade as the 2019 European Capital of Culture. This Southern Italian city’s pleasures aren’t as immediately as obvious as those of the aforementioned locales, though travelers looking for a unique, immersive stay will love this little city that’s built into the rock of a ravine. Matera is known for its sassi, or
cave dwellings, which had been written off as uninhabitable until savvy hoteliers began
transforming them into luxury properties. If you missed the Culture celebratory festivities in January at this UNESCO World Heritage site—which included 2,000 musicians and
dozens of brass bands performing through the city’s candlelit streets—you’ll have time to book a reservation at Palazzo Gattini, a former 17th century home modeled after
Rupestrian churches that oozes Old-World elegance. The old and the new live in perfect
harmony at Palazzo Gattini: A wide staircase encircles a glass lift, while a fully modern spa that resembles a Roman bath of the past resides in one of the cavernous spaces Matera will quickly become known for by all.

The Turkish Riviera is this year’s answer to the French Riviera for the discerning traveler.
THE TURKISH RIVIERA has seen a flurry of upscale activity in recent years, with rapid-fire openings from some of the world’s top-tier tourism brands, including Mandarin Oriental, Aman and Nikki Beach. The latest kid on the block to join the glam pack is Bodrum EDITION, which reopens for the season in May on the Aegean Sea within the Yalikavak Bay. Ian Schrager’s haute spot features a 330-
foot white beach made from local marble that’s been transformed into sand; a spa with a Turkish hammam (naturally); two restaurants from pioneering Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz, formerly of the world’s most celebrated restaurants El Bulli and
Mugaritz; 102 guest rooms, suites and villas, some of which include private pools, balconies or gardens; and an exclusive beach club with a jetty that houses private cabanas. Take your time exploring Bodrum in style (it is known to be one of the seven
wonders of the ancient world, after all), but make sure not to miss out on the relatively unspoiled wonders of beach towns like Datça, Kaş and Çıralı—because at the rate the Riviera is developing, they won’t be staying unspoiled for long.
It’s been over a year since Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria devastated the Caribbean in rapid succession, and in that time, there’s been a flurry of rehabilitation on many of the islands, including—most prominently—in St. Barth. The island’s five-star properties have been revamped so extensively that they’re like new again, but better. Hôtel Le Toiny reopened in October with eight new, stellar private suites, while the LVMH-owned Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France finally remerged in December with a new design by Jacques Grange, as well as 19 new rooms and suites and a tropical garden courtesy of world-renowned landscaper Madison Cox, adding a little je ne sais quoi to already existing luxuries in the Guerlain-specific spa La Case de l’Isle and the White Bar eateries, and the personalized Art de Recevoir service. As for the island’s OG—the Eden Rock St. Barth—this haute hotel owned by Pippa Middleton’s in-laws isn’t anticipated to reopen until November 2019, but when it does, expect extensive fanfare. 114 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

Notably, this 19,970 square foot home situated on a 30,000 square foot lot with 100 linear feet of waterfront is one of the largest residences currently on the market in Miami Beach. Due to the location, legacy, size, price and unique features, Brown Harris Stevens Miami is confident the property will trade quickly. “This residence is truly a rare find in Miami Beach,” says Brown Harris Stevens Miami listing agent Jeff Miller. Palm Island is one of the most desirable places in Miami Beach to own a home and this property is the perfect opportunity for anyone a seeking a luxurious waterfront estate.” Built in 2004, the property underwent a multi-million dollar renovation by Birdman in 2011 that included combining three bedrooms into a 3,500 square foot Master Suite. In total the residence includes 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, 4 half baths and two private guest suites. One of the suites was used as a recording studio by Cash Money Records artists. Other property highlights include a beach volley-ball court, stunning pool and summer kitchen equipped with a pizza oven, two separate garages for up to four cars, two wine cellars, movie theater and chef’s kitchen. Most importantly are the unparalleled views of Miami Beach, downtown and surrounding areas.

EASTERN +MIDDLE Masterpiece Haute eatery Bavel opens, bringing authentic Middle Eastern cuisine to Downtown Los Angeles’ Art District. BY PAIGE MASTRANDREA
DREAM TEAM ORI MENASHE, GENEVIEVE GERGIS
and Leah Bunch, from the beloved Los Angeles eatery Bestia, have just opened their second culinary destination, Bavel, located in Downtown Los Angeles. The Middle Eastern-inspired establishment pays homage to its roots in the Mediterranean with its name Bavel, stemming from the story of Babel in the Old Testament. Representing a time when everything was one and there was no designation, owners Menashe and Gergis found it the perfect representation of the restaurant— not pinned down to any one region but representing a handful of the best flavors of the Middle East. Blending together the flavors and dishes that the owners grew up eating and adding their own signature, modern flair to each dish, the menu is a diverse and powerful compilation of aromatic herbs, spices and smoke paired with clean and fresh ingredients. Transport yourself to the Mediterranean sea as you munch on 124 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
fresh, signature dishes like the homemade Hummus made with creamy and chunky garbanzo bean puree, green and red chili paste with perfectly toasted pita; Baba Ghanoush—smoked eggplant with charred bell peppers, red walnuts, lemon chili salt and a crunchy, fried pita; Marinated Beets with whipped feta and turmeric pickled cauliflower; or the Fried Quail with cardamom date sauce, pickled celery and smoked yogurt. Make your way down the menu to the mouthwatering flatbread selection where guests can choose from meat or veggie-based breads including the Lamb Flatbread with spicy fermented sausage, grated tomato, red onion, pine nuts and sumac, or the colorful Butternut Squash flatbread highlighted with feta, Baharat, pepitas, fried sage and wildflower honey. On the mains, guests will find large-format meat and fish dishes highlighted with spices and flavorful Mediterranean ingredients including the Braised

Pork Tagine with prunes, serrano chile, couscous and cashews, or the whole-grilled, herb-stuffed Dorade with red chermoula, preserved orange and smoked anchovy. For those looking to satisfy their sweet tooth, treats like the Strawberry Sumac & Sweet Cheese Pastry, authentic Paglava or the Rose Clove Chocolate Donuts decorate the dessert menu. To complete the entire experience, the interior design is just as awe-inspiring as the decadent flavors of the menu. Contrasting with the typical Middle Eastern interior design one may find in other restaurants with dark, heavily patterned accents, Bavel leans toward bright, natural light, soaring skylights, interior brick walls treated with a whitewash and delicate greenery falling from the ceiling area. The colors were drawn from Casa Blanca, featuring vibrant turquoise, saffron and turmeric as well as brass highlights. The space expertly merges its Middle Eastern roots with the history of its location in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, where the cuisine is just as beautiful and expertly perfected as the restaurant itself.
Bavel is open Sundway-Thursday, 5 p.m.-11 p.m., and Friday-Saturday, 5 p.m.-12 a.m., located at 500 Mateo St. Los Angeles, CA 90013. For more information, please head to www.baveldtla.com

LAST YEAR, I ANNOUNCED MY PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL
Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) to form the Maria Sharapova Women’s Entrepreneur Program. From the inception of this program, it was about women helping other women, and I couldn’t have been more inspired to help fellow female business owners, who were just starting out, gain momentum and traction with their companies. Starting out as an entrepreneur is an adventure, and no one gives you a road map. I launched Sugarpova back in 2012, not having an in-depth knowledge about running my own business. I relied heavily on intuition and surrounding myself with industry experts to learn the ins and outs. After seven years, the company continues to thrive, launching new products and securing strategic retail partnerships. It’s highly rewarding for me to be able to pay forward what I’ve learned and achieved in my on- and off-court business pursuits with women just beginning their own. We’re just about halfway through the 12-month-long mentorship program with NAWBO, and I’ve had the chance to interact with the “Sensational 7” participants. Back in November, they met me in New York (during a terrible snowstorm!) for a two-day consortium, where I had the chance to introduce them to Veronica Miele Beard, co-founder of Veronica Beard―another powerhouse female-run business. I’ve teamed up with Veronica Beard for its charitable initiative, Veronica Beard Gives Back. I was really inspired by its monthly blog feature that highlights a prominent woman in business and her social cause, and thought, “Wait―this is the perfect fit for my NAWBO program!” So, for the month of March, which happens to coincide with International Woman’s Day and Women’s History Month, Veronica Beard will donate $10 for every online sale toward the NAWBO/Sharapova Entrepreneur Program, which will directly benefit the seven budding entrepreneurs in the program. It’s truly all about women for women for women. I want to encourage women of all races, creeds, income levels, etc. to be emboldened and empowered in what they do. And to embrace the opportunities that come their way―and have a voice that can be heard.
Top to bottom: Me, chatting with the women from my Entrepreneur Program at sbe Hudson Hotel in New York City; posing with the program’s “Sensational 7,” including Lynda Bishop, NAWBO Institute National Program Director; and Veronica Beard founders Veronica Swanson Beard and Veronica Miele Beard.
