AMERICAN ATP PLAYER TOMMY PAUL IS HEADED TO THE OLYMPICS, AND NOW, HE’S SHARING THE ONE MAJOR SECRET TO HIS SUCCESS. BY LAURA SCHREFFLER PHOTOGRAPHY ALBERTO GONZÁLEZ PHOTOGRAPHY ASSISTANT DANIELA MARTIN SHOT ON LOCATION AT THE BOCA RATON IN BOCA RATON, FL.

@hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 15

ommy Paul is feeling powerful. The unlikely source of his Superman-like force: his watch. The 26-year-old American tennis pro, currently ranked 15th in the world, has just settled down to chat at his Floridian home after a grueling day of practice post-Australian Open. He looks damp, but not exhausted — and in his opinion, it’s because his De Bethune timepiece is bringing him life. Or energy, at the very least. “This is the one I was wearing during last year’s U.S. Open and this year’s Australian Open,” he says of the DB28xs Starry Seas, a silverplated timepiece with a mechanical hand-wound movement and the world’s first random guilloché blue titanium dial, emblazoned with a starry sky and white gold stars. “There’s great energy in this watch, which is why I love playing in it.” Paul wasn’t always so in tune with his mystical side, but that all changed last year, when the brand sought him out after seeing him play in the Mexican Open in Acapulco. They sent him their signature DB28, a surprisingly light piece identified by the presence of “floating lugs,” a patented system that easily adjusts to the size of the wrist and its various movements. “[When I first started working with De Bethune], they told me about the energy the watches bring, but I couldn’t believe it… until I started wearing them,” he admits. Now, he can’t go without what he refers to as “the perfect watch for playing tennis” — especially a one-off piece the brand made just for him at grass court season last year, in the Wimbledon colors of purple and green. “I’d never played a match with a watch in my life, but I got this one, and I just had to play in it. I ended up winning matches and making the finals with it. It has this energy that actually helps me on the court. It’s my go-to for life now,” he declares. Maybe it’s superstition — common among athletes — but belief is a powerful tool. And Paul is convinced that the DB28 Starry Seas was the driving force behind his career high, besting number two seeded player Carlos Alcaraz at the National Bank Open in Toronto last August. “I had a great time there,” he recalls. “I made it to the semis, beat Alcaraz there. I lost to [Jannik Sinner] in the semifinals, but I played a great match there, too.” Although collecting timepieces is a newer passion, it’s one he’s fully immersed himself in. He says he started to take active notice around age 20, but it wasn’t until he began working with coach Brad Stine that he became a serious collector. “Brad is a watch freak,” Paul says with a laugh. “He loves it more than anything, and he got me all the way in and out. Our group chat is just tennis and watches; that’s what we’re sending each other back and forth.” Currently, his collection consists entirely of De Bethune pieces, save for an incredibly rare Hamilton watch engraved with USA 2020 — a watch entirely reserved for Olympic competitors. “I imagine I’ll be getting another one when we play in the Olympics this summer,” he says, and smiles. “Hopefully, the rest of my watches, other than De Bethune, are just a bunch of Olympic watches.” Paul confidently states that he’ll be playing in the Olympic Summer Games Paris 2024 this summer, where he’ll likely be joined by Taylor 16 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Frances Tiafoe on the men’s side, all of whom hold spots within the ATP’s top 20 worldwide rankings. And when I say confident, I mean confident. He’s laid-back about what most would consider to be the be-all, end-all pinnacle of athleticism — and much more enthusiastic about having a true Olympic experience — which makes sense, given that he was undeniably robbed of this his first time playing in the Games during the height of the pandemic. “I played three years ago in Tokyo, and that was a strange experience because of Covid-19. We stayed in a hotel along with the USA Basketball team — not in the village — so we didn’t get any of the true Olympic experience. That’s what I’m looking forward to in Paris: getting to play without all the Covid protocols.” Still, he allows, “I’m super excited to play, and hopefully take home a medal for our country. That’s always been the dream.” And just because Paul isn’t doing anything additional to prepare doesn’t mean he isn’t taking the Games seriously. [Also, he’ll be wearing his lucky charm — which he did not yet have at his first go at Olympic glory — so why worry?] On this front, he has an entirely logical explanation. “In a lot of other sports, you train and peak at the Olympics, and train harder to get there. Our season is constant throughout the year, so there isn’t a dedicated ramp up; you always have to be consistent in your game. It’s an interesting sport in that respect. I’m not treating it differently than any other tournaments. I want to do as well as I can, but every tournament I play, I want to win just as badly.” His career high came at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai, where he became the ATP’s world No. 12. Breaking the top ten is a major focus for 2024, mostly in that he consistently strives to beat his personal best. “Winning is the most important thing to me right now,” he confesses, admitting, “I enjoy competing, and I hate losing. But tennis is unlike any other sport in that you lose almost every week of the year. You play a tournament every week, and if you make the finals, it’s a good week. But even if you lost that week, you still show up to the next tournament, and 99 percent of the players in that tournament have also lost the week before; everyone loses outside of one person. I have a lot of friends in the sport, and when they’re in a slump, I tell them, ‘You haven’t been playing well, and you’re stressed about not playing well. But the guy you’re playing tomorrow, he lost his last match, too, so he could also lose to you tomorrow.’ We do the best we can with every match we play.” In that respect, Paul, a player whose style is defined by a strong, attacking forehand, solid footwork along the baseline, and speed coming into net, doesn’t sweat his competition. Though he loves the friendly, on-court rivalry he has with Alcaraz, again, his biggest competition is himself. “Tennis is an independent, solo sport — your greatest enemy is always going to be yourself. But that’s also what pushes you to the next level. There’s so much self-doubt when you’re playing an individual sport. You don’t have a team to blame — it’s all on you. You have your support team, but you’re the only one out there playing. That, in my opinion, is the beauty of the sport — and I think it’s the most beautiful sport in the world for that reason.”

@hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 17

“TENNIS IS AN INDEPENDENT, SOLO SPORT — YOUR GREATEST ENEMY IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE YOURSELF.”

he young man sitting before me today might look virtually the same as his younger self, but Tommy Paul is a different person. Tennis is his life, and his life, tennis. When I ask him who Tommy Paul really is, his answer is revealing: “I’m a competitor and a tennis player. At heart, I feel like that’s who I am,” he says. “That,” I say, “is what you do. But who are you?” “That is who I am,” he insists. “I honestly love the sport. It’s engraved in me. Obviously, tennis is exhausting; it’s a long season. But I enjoy it even in the tough times. I love competing; that’s what I was trained for, it’s why I play. I do like to have fun, I like to hang out with my friends. I’m a normal person, but I’m also a competitor.” The New Jersey-born, North Carolina-raised, and now-Boca Raton, Florida resident hasn’t always been entirely focused on winning. When he turned pro in 2015, he was just a guy that wanted to have fun. This was brought to light on the early January episode “Friend or Foe” of the second season of Netflix’s hit tennis docuseries, Break Point, a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of top tennis players (including Fritz, Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Daniil Medvedev, Jessica Pegula, and Alexander Zverev, among others) as they travel across the globe for all four Grand Slams as well as the ATP and WTA tours. “When I turned pro, I was more in my party phase,” he says in the series. “I had a little money and I thought, ‘Let’s have fun.’ I kind of got caught up in it.” It came to a head at the 2017 US Open, of which he says in the episode, “I had a night out drinking and the next day, I was supposed to play doubles. I was not there. I couldn’t even see. I was getting alcohol tested for six months. That’s when I thought, ‘This has got to be rock bottom.’ I knew I had to turn something around. That’s when I started taking everything more seriously.” Paul has become a man of his word. Since he truly buckled down, his career has been on a slow and steady rise. He cracked the top 200 for the first time in 2016, the top 100 in 2019, and the top 50 in 2021 — the same year as his Olympics debut. He ended the year with a world rank of 43. And perhaps it was his lucky timepiece charm, or his own seriousness about the sport (or a combination of the two) but his prowess on the court — clay preferred, previously — was visible. In 2022, at the Indian Wells Masters, he reached the third round for a second time, losing to 29th seed Alex de Minaur. One week later at the Miami Open, he reached the third round for the first time. Then, seeded 30th at Wimbledon that same year, he reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. He recorded the biggest win of his career, defeating world No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the second round at the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters, his fourth top 10 victory of the year. 2023 was more of the same impressive upward trajectory. Paul reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2023 Australian Open, becoming the first American male player to reach the semifinals at this @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 19

“YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE PLAYING. THAT, IN MY OPINION, IS THE BEAUTY OF THE SPORT. I THINK IT’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SPORT IN THE WORLD FOR THAT REASON.”

Major since Andy Roddick in 2009. He lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic, which was enough to place him within the top 20 at world No. 19. He then reached his second and biggest career final at the ATP 500 2023 Mexican Open, and then reached the fourth round for the first time at the Masters 1000, which brings us to now, and his press-time ranking of world no. 15. Even playing at home in Florida feels different. Although this is where he’s surrounded by family and friends, it was also, traditionally, a go-to place of fun... and he is not about to go back to that time of his life. Now, the Miami Open is like any other tournament in the sense that it’s another opportunity to win — it just happens to be on familiar ground. “The fun has changed over the years,” he confides. “At one point, I was going to Miami quite a bit, and then I grew out of that and wanted to be slower paced. Now, I try to spend as much time [chilling out] as I can, whether it’s at the beach, fishing, by the ocean, or at dinner. My girlfriend [influencer Paige Lorenze] makes me homecooked meals. Tomorrow, we’ll have a bunch of the Americans over for dinner.” He shrugs. “One of the hardest parts about tennis is how much time you’re away from your family and friends, so when I’m here, I like to keep it simple.” Paul’s script has officially flipped. Even his way of prepping is different. “Before matches, I like to sit by myself. I turn off my phone. I think it’s powerful to be by yourself and alone with your thoughts before you go and play.” And there you have it. Paul is focused, he is determined, and he has goals. “I want to win tournaments,” he declares. “I want to go home as a champion. I know that’s probably a corny goal, but there it is. I want to end tournaments on a win. Last year, every week that I played, I lost my last match. I got number 12 in the world, so I did pretty well, but I didn’t break the top 10 — and that’s another goal. But I guess if I win tournaments, that’ll help me get to the top 10, so my goals go hand in hand.” He wants more big wins, certainly, including standouts like his maiden ATP title at the 2021 Stockholm Open, and that huge upset at the 2023 National Bank Open against Alcaraz. “All my matches felt super electric after that,” he reminisces. 20 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

But given that he’s referenced this particular on-court match-up several times throughout our chat, enquiring minds want to know how he celebrated one of the most pivotal moments of his career. Paul remembers it perfectly and says that it serves as an exact reminder of what he’s been preaching all along: win or lose, tomorrow is another day. After beating Alcaraz in Toronto, he went to dinner with his team, inclusive of coach Stine, fitness coach Franco Herrero, and physiotherapist Sebastian Cozzarin, knowing that he must defeat Jannik Sinner (who has just won the Australian Open) the following day. He could not just let his hair down and enjoy himself — he had a battle ahead. “We finished late that day, but the tournament kept a restaurant open so we could get a latenight meal. And it was funny — Alcaraz also showed up at the restaurant 20 minutes later. He was waving at us, and smiling as he went upstairs. I remember thinking he probably had much more fun than I did, because I had to play the next day. But also, there was no animosity from him either way: guys at the top of their game are that way.” Willfully forgetting losses requires Groundhog Day syndrome to be sure, and Paul has it — but he believes it’s just the way life must be; it’s the only way to move forward. And that’s what he’s doing now, leaving the Australian Open behind and focusing on the tournaments to come — Delray Beach, Dallas, Miami, and Indian Wells (which he calls the “most special tournament outside of Wimbledon”) included. “Playing those tournaments as an American is super important,” he says, explaining, “American tennis players haven’t always had the fan base they do now. And for us [inclusive of players like Fritz, Pegula, Gauff, and Shelton], we love playing in front of the US fans; that’s what we live for. It’s all about inspiring kids to play more tennis and having them love the sport like we do. It’s cool to see people getting into tennis in the States again. I think that’s been missing — we haven’t had players [this great] for a while, and now I feel like we have a good group that is moving step by step, spot by spot, to the top of the game.” As we sign off, I wonder if I should wish him luck — or if it’s bad luck to do so. Paul smiles, and says, “We take all the luck we can get over here.” He might take it, but does he need it? Likely not... he has all that BWE (otherwise known as “Big Watch Energy”), after all.

In dentistry, appointments remain dreaded, especially after the collapse of SmileDirectClub. There’s confusion about what the dental profession offers. Quality of care varies, impacting oral health and overall well-being. We resolve to educate the public on diverse care levels and affordable options. Good oral care doesn’t need to be expensive; early decisions lead to a lasting smile.

I consider my career to be a blessing and a privilege, and I want to prioritize giving back in 2024. I am looking forward to doing a medical mission trip this year. I love being a plastic surgeon, but my most important job is being a father to my children and a husband to my wife. A career in medicine often presents unique challenges about how you allocate your time. In 2024, I want to prioritize being present and making as many memories as possible with my family.

DR. NATALIA VIDAL LAUREANO | FACE | CORAL GABLES, FL

Despite not favoring resolutions, I believe in setting plans and working towards goals. Having achieved milestones as a plastic surgeon, gaining board certifications, and becoming a mother, I’m ready for new objectives. Professionally, I aim to contribute more to practice management and growth, and publishing work in scientific journals for community benefit. Personally, I prioritize health, fitness, quality time with my husband, and ongoing growth as a mother for my baby’s well-being.

DR. JEFFREY LEE | BREAST | BOSTON

In 2024, my focus is on finding a non-surgical solution for undereye bags. Despite intriguing treatments in the esthetic world, I aim to invest energy in thorough research to identify an effective and reliable solution, ensuring it meets our practice’s standards and benefits our patients.

HEATHER MERLO, SEI TU BELLA ESTHETICS | MEDICAL SPA | TAMPA, FL

In the new year, my key professional resolution is to secure a dedicated building, solidifying our leadership in women’s wellness in the Tampa Bay area. Emphasizing the Inmodes Empower RF platform, this strategic move aims to enhance our services and accessibility for clients. On a personal level, I aim to speak at my first conference, focusing on promoting women’s wellness and sharing our inspiring story of entrepreneurship. This resolution reflects my commitment to empowering women globally and making a meaningful impact in the esthetics industry.

DR. PETER ANDRADE, BEAUTIQUE CONCIERGE | MEDICAL SPA | BROOKLYN, NY

I aim to expand my plastic surgery practice and Beautique Concierge in NYC, enhancing the in-home Botox, fillers, and IV experience. Introducing customizable wellness subscriptions and concierge treatments is a key focus. I’m dedicated to building my path to wellness and vitality, maximizing each day with a positive mentality and a healthy life.

DR. AMIR MAHAN GHAZNAVI, AMG PLASTIC SURGERY | BODY | DMV

Professionally, I aim to make AMG Plastic Surgery the leading center for plastic and cosmetic surgery in the DMV region. After relocating from South Florida, I am dedicated to understanding local esthetic needs, specializing in breast and body surgeries, including reconstructions for breast and body cancers. Personally, mindfulness is a priority for optimizing stress management and being present in both personal and professional spheres. With proven benefits like enhanced cognitive function and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, applying these techniques aims to improve overall wellbeing and achieve greater success. hauteliving.com/hautebeauty HAUTE LIVING 33

Welcome to the Dark Side In a nod to history and the epic Apollo 8 mission of 1968, Omega unveils its latest masterpiece, the Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

PHOTOS COURTESY OF OMEGA

THE APOLLO 8 MISSION MARKED A PIVOTAL MOMENT AS THE FIRST

human flight to orbit the Moon, and Omega watches were a crucial part of this historic journey. Now, in 2024, Omega pays tribute to this remarkable story with the new Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon, a timepiece crafted with cutting-edge technology and intricate dial detailing. Omega first introduced the Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Apollo 8 edition in 2018 to commemorate the mission’s 50th anniversary. For its latest rendition, the brand has elevated the design to new heights, focusing on intricate details and ultimate refinement. The watch features the Caliber 3869 movement and is adorned with a laser-ablated Moon relief on the blackened main plate and bridges. This movement beautifully captures the dual nature of the Moon, with one side representing the lunar surface as seen from the Earth and the other showcasing the enigmatic dark side — a view reserved exclusively for astronauts. Omega’s latest update enhances the Moon’s definition, achieved through laser engraving and contrasting surfaces. Impressively, the manual-winding Caliber 3869 has achieved the Co-Axial Master

Chronometer standard, setting a new benchmark in Swiss precision, chronometric performance, and magnetic resistance. The Moon-themed movement is visible through the watch’s skeletonized black anodized aluminum dial. Omega’s attention to detail extends to the 44.25 mm case, the polished bezel, and the caseback, which are all crafted from separate pieces of black ceramic. The tachymeter scale is meticulously filled with bright white “Grand Feu” enamel. Adding a touch of vibrancy, the central chronograph seconds hand is varnished yellow, a theme echoed in the watch’s perforated strap made from black rubber with a yellow interior. A novel addition is the patent-pending small-seconds hand at nine o’clock, expertly engineered from Titanium Grade 5 and shaped like the NASA’s iconic Saturn V rocket. This 3D structure is created through laser turning and enriched with white varnish, ablation, and laser blackening techniques — a small yet inspiring tribute to the triumph of the Apollo program. The caseback bears a series of poignant engravings, including “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE,” the final words spoken to ground control by command module pilot Jim Lovell, just before Apollo 8 ventured to the far side of the Moon, entering radio silence for the very first time. The enigmatic surface of the Moon has always fascinated and intrigued humanity, positioning itself as a key inspiration within the Omega brand and its unwavering dedication to space exploration. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 35

Sports Supremo A Haute look at the F.P.Journe Chronographe Rattrapante in titanium. BY ADRIENNE FAUROT

PHOTOS COURTESY OF F.P.JOURNE

THE F.P.JOURNE LINESPORT COLLECTION IS ONE OF THE ULTIMATE

sports watch collections in the industry. It blends a sporty esthetic with the premium craftsmanship of the brand’s haute horology into a collection that is modern and cool. A Haute Time favorite from the collection, the Chronographe Rattrapante in titanium grade 5 (though available in three other models as well: one other titanium grade 5, one in 18-karat 6N gold, and one platinum PT950), is the epitome of F.P.Journe’s mastery of sports watches. At the heart of the Chronographe Rattrapante lies a meticulously crafted 44 mm diameter case, with a slim profile of just 12.1 mm. Within this case, the monopoussoir split-second chronograph movement takes center stage. This movement features a very large date display, an innovation that enhances both functionality and readability. In the titanium version, the date mechanism is crafted from aluminum alloy, while the 18-karat 6N gold and platinum versions boast a date mechanism made from 18-karat rose gold, adding a luxurious touch. One of the standout features of the Chronographe Rattrapante is its power reserve, which lasts a staggering 80 hours. This extended power reserve ensures that the chronograph remains operational even after two full days, allowing you to make the most of its rattrapante function. The date window itself measures 5.20 x 2.80 mm, providing increased legibility, optimal for sports timepieces.

For this titanium timepiece, the dial features an aluminum alloy in either yellow or slate grey, adorned with luminescent applied numerals. The two chronograph counters are meticulously engraved in sapphire, enhancing both the watch’s overall sophisticated design and its functionality. Luminescent hour and minute hands ensure optimal readability. The tachymetric bezel, inlaid with ceramic, adds a sporty touch, while the new typographic numeral pays homage to the exquisite 2017 Only Watch timepiece. Despite its complexity and craftsmanship, the F.P.Journe Chronographe Rattrapante is incredibly lightweight and comfortable to sport. At the heart of the timepiece lies the Caliber 1518 with manual winding, conceived by F.P.Journe. This new movement features a direct gearing chronograph with a rocking pinion, eliminating the jump of the hand at the start — a notable advancement in precision timekeeping. The integration of the very large date, a signature of the F.P.Journe brand, required meticulous engineering to maintain a total height of only 6.80 mm. The movement’s finishings are on full display through a transparent sapphire back, showcasing the undeniable qualities of F.P.Journe haute horology. With the Chronographe Rattrapante, the brand continues to push the boundaries of watchmaking, asserting itself as the leader in the industry. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 37

Haute Spotting The sleekest timepieces spotted on this awards season’s red carpets. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

THE 2024 AWARDS SEASON HAS OFFICIALLY COMMENCED, AND OUR EYES HAVE BEEN

on one thing only: watches. Each year, red carpets set the tone for the horological year ahead, revealing the new, renewed, and steady relationships between Maisons and actors. Here, we reveal some of our favorite timepieces spotted at the Golden Globe Awards, from Vacheron Constantin to Cartier, and more.

SIMU LIU IN VACHERON CONSTANTIN

Barbie star Simu Liu was seen wearing the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Retrograde Day-Date in pink gold. The timepiece showcases a unique blend of retrograde hand-type day and date display, drawing inspiration from 1950s design esthetics. The dial’s hour markers and hands gracefully follow its contours, while the sunburst satin finish of the blue-colored dial adds a touch of elegance. Additionally, a “circular-pearl” minute-track on the dial enhances its light-reflecting qualities.

TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET IN CARTIER

Wonka lead — and global obsession — Timothée Chalamet wore the Cartier Crash in 18-karat white gold, adorned with 149 brilliant-cut diamonds, featuring a beaded crown set with another brilliant-cut diamond, with a combined weight of 2.15 carats. The bracelet, also in rhodium-finish 18-karat white gold, is embellished with 321 brilliant-cut diamonds, totaling 2.12 carats, and designed for a wrist size of 170 mm. The timepiece showcases a silvered opaline dial with a sunray effect, complemented by sword-shaped hands in blued steel and protected by a mineral crystal. To add a sporty touch and complement his white tuxedo jacket, Barbie star Will Ferrell opted for the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 42 mm, Titanium on Titanium. Mirroring 007’s watch in No Time To Die, the model features a Titanium Grade 2 construction, a brown tropical aluminum bezel ring and dial, and is driven by OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8806. Its slim profile and Titanium Grade 2 mesh bracelet enhance its distinguished design.

KIERAN CULKIN IN TAG HEUER

It is no surprise Succession winner Kieren Culkin was sporting a TAG Heuer timepiece — he was spotted attending the brand’s intimate flagship dinner in New York City a few weeks prior to the event. For his Golden Globe Awards appearance, he chose to wear the 39 mm TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox in an elegant navy color.

Barry Keoghan, who recently starred in Saltburn, was rocking in the Seamaster Aqua Terra 34 mm, which sparkled with hour markers rubies that perfectly matched his Louis Vuitton suiting. MOVES

2023 Maserati MC20 The return of the Trident’s Edge MASERATI WAS FOUNDED IN 1914 — LONG BEFORE MANY OF ITS

eventual competitors, such as Jaguar, Ferrari, Porsche, and certainly Lamborghini — and its roots are with great racing machines and sports cars released through the 1960s. In fact, their “Tipo 61,” which became known as the “Maserati Birdcage” due to its beautiful tubular space frame, was one of the most desirable cars from that era (1959-1961), and the few remaining (less than 25 were constructed) are worth millions of dollars. I had the pleasure of seeing one, with the body off, and it’s truly a magnificent work of art. However, apart from the very capable Gran Turismo (GT), which was manufactured from 2007 to 2019, most Masers offered in the United States in recent years have been two- and four-door sedans. And when SUVs arrived, there wasn’t a sports car in the lineup for many years. Maserati did create a cousin of the Enzo in 2004, called the MC12, but that model was only made for a few years, and a total of just 62 were built. Its main purpose was to qualify a racing variant of the car for the FIA GT Championship (the racing league required a certain number of road-going variants to be produced in order for the model to be able to participate). 40 HAUTE LIVING hauteauto.com

From 1997 to 2005, Maserati and Ferrari had common ownership, and one of Maserati’s selling points was that its vehicles were powered by Ferrari engines. And while the Quattroporte luxury sedan was a big seller, especially starting with the 2014 Quattroporte VI, it seemed like the Maserati spirit of racing cars was lost in a world of sedans. But then, in 2020, the MC20 debuted. Maserati hailed the model as its “Super Sports Car” — and I, like many car aficionados, couldn’t have been more pleased. (The name came from “Maserati Corse” [Racing Maserati] and the “20” was for the year 2020.) I first saw that beautiful sports car at Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week that same year, at the Maserati House, and though it was on static display, the car looked to be in motion. With a gorgeous, light-blue body, the MC20 looked amazing. It would be another several months before I was lucky enough to borrow one for a multi-day loan, and it certainly was worth the wait! This two-seater coupe with a rear midengine is a race car for the street and was built to combine gorgeous Italian looks with an engine that was designed after those in Formula 1 cars. “My” MC20 was liveried in an optional misty color called “Bianco Audace” — an off-white exterior with a black and gray interior. The base

car was $212,000, but someone with good (and expensive) taste ordered it with a boatload (or shall I say “barchetta load”) of add-ons, such as the custom matte paint ($14,000); carbon ceramic brakes ($10,000); a black roof ($4,000); carbon fiber here, there, and everywhere (more than $50,000); a racing interior ($2,500); racing seats ($7,000); and more — bringing the total (before tax and license) to over $315,000. I liked all the choices and didn’t find one that I would have excluded. Driving the car was a real treat, too. Maserati created the engine this time (code-named “Nettuno”) rather than sourcing a Ferrari option. The MC20 sports a V6 twin turbo engine with 3,000 cubic inches, producing 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, which is enough oomph to rocket this 3,306-pound car from zero to 60 mph in under three seconds, on the way to a top speed north of 200 mph. And did I mention the 8,000 RPM redline, which emits a wonderful scream at full throttle? I liked driving the MC20 as it was a great blend of performance and comfort. Entry and exit were effortless (which is not always the case with butterfly dihedral doors like these), with no compromise to the ergonomics of driving to achieve great looks and performance. The handling was exact as well and had both the tightness of a sports car in the twisties and a supple, compliant ride on the straights. Although the engine sounded amazing at full honk, there was ample power to move with alacrity at less than full throttle so that the car could easily be driven at normal (that is, legal) speeds with much less sound and fury. The seats in mine were the monocoque racing seats, but I still found them both comfortable and supportive. The eight-speed transmission was sharp and smooth-shifting but also shifted swiftly upon hard acceleration. The MC20 only is available with a paddle shift; like many modern performance cars, it’s not available with a stick shift transmission. Rearward visibility is terrific, thanks to a video monitor fed by a camera at the rear — a nice touch as the camera’s wide angle is far more effective than a traditional rear-view mirror, especially when a car (as is the case with the MC20) has a constrained “natural” view. In the calmest of the three driving modes (GT), the MC20 seems somewhat sedate, but jump up to Sport or Corsa (the latter being my preferred modus operandi), and you get the Italian aria befitting a car of its stature. I love its song! My time with the MC20 was too short, but I will be borrowing the MC20 Cielo (convertible version), and who knows, I might be among the first to experience the all-electric version of the MC20, which Maserati has promised soon, or even the MCXtreme, the full-race, track-only variant of the MC20, which I saw unveiled at The Quail in August (all 62 units have been sold). Whatever top or motor your MC20 has, you’re sure to have an enjoyable time. @hauteauto HAUTE LIVING 41

AMAZING ASIA From Hong Kong to Singapore and beyond, here are the places to stay and play in Asia BY LAURA SCHREFFLER

HONG KONG

REGENT HONG KONG

The Regent Hong Kong, a former icon in Kowloon, has returned to its former glory in a major way following a two-year, top-to-tails renovation. This haute hotel, with the glittering and glorious Victoria Harbour as its backdrop, is guaranteed to be a must-visit destination for the jet set amidst landmarks like K11 MUSEA, Avenue of Stars, City Art Square, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Native designer Chi Wing Lo has managed to seamlessly blend the city’s historical past with its innovative present via a rich tapestry of 368 rooms and 129 suites, as well as gentle references throughout the property, balancing tactile natural materials. An iconic white marble staircase, resembling a miniature waterfall, and the grandeur of the classic design set the stage for a magnificent experience, transforming even the smallest of details into a study of the city’s past. And while guests may appreciate this insight into the past, they’ll fully love its modern, endlessly epicurean present. One of the world’s finest Chinese restaurants specializing in Cantonese cuisine, Lai Ching Heen (previously known as Yan Toh Heen), brings black pearl diamonds and two Michelin star fare back to the hotel. The Steak House presents curated selections of the finest meats from pristine farms around the world, while Harbourside’s immersive buffet experience of global cuisine transports guests to the world’s best local markets. There’s even a Nobu here, which says it all: proprietor Nobu Matsuhisa’s name is synonymous with cutting edge Japanese cuisine and a sexy party vibe worldwide. Which means, of course, like everything else on site, Regent Hong Kong defines ‘best of the best.’ Additionally, the hotel’s Regent Club opened in September, offering guests an exclusive, light-filled private sanctuary, designed in an elevated way, like the bridge of a cruise ship. Here, afternoon tea and evening cocktails are offered quietly and discreetly, with postcard perfect views of the harbor, underneath a dazzling array of lights meant to simulate those which dance around and reflect the vibrant waterfront every evening set to “A Symphony of Lights,” focusing the viewer’s eye on the iconic cityscape. Speaking of iconic views, well, there isn’t one better than from the property’s crowning jewel: the presidential suite. This state-of-the-art, 7,000-square-foot duplex has its own private terrace and infinity swimming pool, five bedrooms, a dining room, tearoom, private gym, rainforest shower and whirlpool bathtub, private sauna, and steam room. The reopening of the rest of the reimagined hotel’s new hallmarks, such as the spa and additional rooms, will continue to be rolled out in the coming months. 18 Salisbury Road Regent, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

JAPAN

There are very few places in the world that are more traditional or distinctive than Kyoto, and at HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa, those traditional elements are adhered to respectfully and perfectly, creating an incredibly authentic experience. The Mitsui Fudosan Group’s flagship is located right in the heart of Kyoto, directly opposite UNESCO World Heritage site Nijō Castle, the Kyoto residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period, across Horikawa-dori. This 75,000-square-foot property was the former home of the Mitsui family for over 250 years, which is reflected in its current reincarnation of 160 guest rooms — because what makes this hotel such a standout is its sense of history. There are quiet Japanese gardens set among lily ponds, tiny wooden bridges, and water features, visible from many of the guest rooms, as well as a subterranean natural hot spring in the THERMAL SPRING SPA. There are even two private onsens for a decadent experience (best enjoyed whilst nibbling on caviar and sipping champagne, in my humble opinion). The culinary concepts echo the wonders found throughout the property. At TOKI, a mix of Japanese and French cuisine is perfectly prepared item by item on a long, teppan-brushed steel counter. That the highest-quality Matsusaka wagyu beef found anywhere in Japan is served here is no accident: Mie Prefecture — the current home of the Mitsui family — is the source of said meat. At Italian eatery FORNI, guests can experience all the 24 distinct terms of the solar calendar through flavorful dishes made from the freshest Italian and locally-sourced Kyoto ingredients (many of which are prepared on an okudo-san — a traditional Japanese kamado-style cooking range — reimagined as an oven for pizzas and oven-roasted dishes). Visible from all seating locations, the garden at FORNI reflects the seasons. There is also THE GARDEN BAR, which serves up both local and global liquor-forward libations, as well as SHIKI-NO-MA, a private space created from reconstructed Japanese cypress, a private dining space where — among other experiences — some of the last remaining Kyoto geisha or geikos (traditional Japanese female entertainers) treat guests to a dance, a lingering look at an ancient art form of yesteryear. AMAN TOKYO

Aman Tokyo doesn’t have to shout how great it is: this stunner need only whisper, and it will catch the wind. Aman’s first urban concept hotel is a true oasis, set high above the Japanese capital, offering dramatic panoramic views of the Imperial Palace Gardens and neighboring Ginza shopping district. The Otemachi Forest, a meticulously created natural oasis at the foot of the hotel, is brought inside through natural materials, earthy bamboo, and traditional Japanese design elements like washi paper, stone, and large ofuro soaking tubs, found in all 84 suites. This design aesthetic is most visibly apparent in the property’s masterpiece of a lobby, where an engawa — a wooden detail seen in traditional Japanese residences that divides the inside and out — impressively soars nearly 100 feet high. It’s a city hotel to be sure, a beautiful respite for business travelers that offers a plethora of quiet and calm experiences throughout the stay, from an ethereally elegant afternoon tea at the beautiful Japanese-style garden Lounge by Aman to the lovely spa. There’s also enough on-site dining to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters, from Aman’s Italian staple Arva, which offers views of Mt. Fuji and houses a two-story, glass-fronted wine cellar; and Musashi by Aman, a fine dining experience where traditional Edomae-style sushi is served. PAN PACIFIC ORCHARD

Pan Pacific Orchard is one of the most majestic new hotels in Asia due in part to its dramatic foliage that brings the outside in. In fact, over 300 percent of the hotel’s land area is comprised of greenery, thanks to the stylings of award-winning designers WOHA Architects, with four interconnected, nature-driven sky terraces: Forest, Beach, Garden, and Cloud. Dramatic, nearly 400-foot green columns tower through the terraces, creating a spectacle of thriving flora. Mirrored ceilings reflect each unique landscape, from the sparkling pools of Beach Terrace to the manicured lawns of Garden Terrace, while open-air spaces welcome abundant fresh breeze and natural daylight for exquisite alfresco experiences. It’s no surprise that this 347-room hotel is as green as they come, with a slew of sustainability features inclusive of renewable solar panel technology, an in-room filtered water system, and a bio-digester system that transforms food waste into cleaning water. But make no mistake: this is still a luxury hotel, and one that’s complemented by the crème de la crème of concepts to boot. These include Mediterranean-meets-Peruvian eatery Mosella, which overlooks the greenery of Forest Terrace, and Garden Terrace hot spot Florette, which features one of the city’s best champagne lists — from growers to rare vintages and the classics — perfectly paired with the season’s freshest oysters; as well as The Chairman’s Lounge, which is overseen by famed Chinese chef Leung Wing Cheung. The property has also joined forces with Singapore’s Orchard Gin to create their own, supremely elegant libation. Soon, the property will launch Atelier-in-Residence, a program developed to welcome limitededition, made-in-Singapore brands. 10 Claymore Rd, Singapore 229540

SOUTH KOREA

Gangnam-style is a thing, and there isn’t one hotel in Seoul, the K-Beauty capital of the world, that embodies this more so than the Signiel Seoul. Located atop the 1,821-foot LOTTE World Tower, the sixth tallest building in the world and Korea’s largest, this stunner can literally be likened to the very height of extreme luxury. The hotel feels different from other luxury properties. While many of America’s wealthiest get away with lowslung baseball caps and artfully disheveled, unbuttoned designer coats, the guests here look like they’d be right at home on a runway (or at least sitting front row). Signiel (a composite of the words “signature” and “LOTTE”) is the group’s most premium offering, clearly, even winning the Grand Prix of the Best Grand Hotel in the World at the 2022 Villegiature Awards. This is obvious in every possible way, from its signatures restaurants, STAY by Michelin three-star chef Yannick Alléno, and 1 Michelin star Korean eatery, Bicena (becoming the only hotel in Korea to have two Michelin starred restaurants at the same time), to its Rolls-Royce house car and upscale sky bar, Bar 81, which, with 80 different brands, hosts the largest champagne collection in South Korea. The hotel also has its very own wine, La Tour D’Arche Signiel Margaux, from Bordeaux, and a collection of 235 rooms and suites, the largest of which, the Royal Suite, at over 3,800 square feet, has its own jacuzzi and secretary room. There’s also a pool, sauna, and fitness center with panoramic sky views, and the Retreat Signiel, a top-notch K-Spa, which has its own tea and oil ateliers. Can you see now why it was named the very best? 300 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea

VIETNAM

Regent Phu Quoc, one of the newest hotels in the tony Regent portfolio, is one of the most self-contained of the group’s properties. Located off the southwest coast of Vietnam and set alongside a UNESCO-designated World Biosphere Reserve in the country’s largest island of Phú Quốc, this all-suites-and-villas resort takes barefoot luxury to an entirely new level. Its thoughtful, carefree, home-awayfrom-home (but better) aesthetic was brought to life by BLINK Design Group, which created a resort experience, highlighted by unobstructed views of sparkling sea from every angle via expansive windows and verandas that invite natural light. Here, there are 302 suites and villas, our favorite type of which features private infinity pools that soar above the sultry skyline. There are some incredible dining options throughout, and an equally impressive spa, all surrounded by vast schools of Koi fish (as well as daily complimentary yoga on the rooftop and indoor and outdoor yoga pavilions or, for a bonus, a personal holistic wellness coach). But it’s the extras here that make this jungle-like resort the one to beat. There’s ‘Bath Hour’ on offer from the privacy of the Oasis bathrooms; access to Serenity, the resort’s personal yacht (as a side note, it is the only resort in the area to offer this kind of upscale amenity); and the totally wild, private dining experience that is Taste Gallery, where the resort’s six restaurants and bars converge to create a totally unique, art-focused, creative, immersive experience that is spearheaded by the property’s head chef, Bruno Anon. It’s truly unmissable. Bai Truong, Dương Tơ, Phú Quốc, Kiên Giang 92509, Vietnam

ANANTARA KOH YAO YAI RESORT

Luxury-based hotel group Anantara, responsible for creating high-end luxury hideaways across Asia, has opened one of its latest and greatest efforts in Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas, a secluded oasis located on an untouched island in the middle of Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay. Once a coconut palm plantation, the 27-acre site is situated between a wooded hill and a turquoise bay dotted with jungle-clad limestone islets that dot the horizon. Unfolding over a mile of golden beach, this new luxury resort is the height of tranquility, spaciousness, and luxury, just a 35-minute boat ride from Phuket and 20 minutes from Krabi. From the moment travelers arrive at the resort’s private jetty, they are immersed in the atmosphere of exclusivity and luxury, highlighted by a sprawling green lawn, a shaded swimming pool, and a golden beach. Here, there are 148 classically designed suites, villas, and penthouses, our favorite of which are the eight butler-attended sea view pool penthouses. At 3,939 square feet, these behemoths feature living and dining rooms, kitchens, master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms featuring two skylight-lit rain showers, infinityedge pools, sundecks with daybeds, and covered cabanas for alfresco dining. [However, there is only one that comes with a glass bottom infinity pool, seen from the living space below.] This is a true getaway, where every accommodation is made, and every possible convenience is offered. This means a slew of culinary concepts, inclusive of surf and turf eatery Beach Restaurant, traditional Thai spot Pakarang, and the appropriately named Japanese Restaurant. Plus, via Dining by Design, with only a private chef and butler present, guests can enjoy a gourmet picnic on an island sandbank, a romantic dinner cruise, or a champagne celebration in complete privacy. This is a common theme here indeed, given that Koh Yao Yai is still wonderfully undeveloped and devoid of mass tourism, offering an enriching journey for foodies, nature lovers, yogis, and marine enthusiasts alike. Inspirational and immersive excursions are also offered, such as vintage sidecar tours to a rubber plantation; batik-making, tie-dye classes; mountain climbing;scuba diving;and off-the-beaten-track adventures to tranquil Hong Island, where one can drift along mangrove canals in a kayak as native Hornbill birds soar above. On property, guests can also indulge via spa time at one of the several hydropools and hammams. 88, 8, Koh Yao Yai, Ko Yao District, Phang-nga 82160, Thailand

When Pharrell Williams was appointed creative director after Virgil Abloh, the fashion industry knew he would have large shoes to fill. But if anyone could do it, it would be Williams. With three Louis Vuitton Men’s collections now under his belt, Williams has established a clear vision for the brand. Just like Abloh, he is mixing different cultures and traditions with the original Vuitton spirit while dipping into the brand’s incredible archives and history to create contemporary masterpieces — the Pharrell way, of course. Williams’ first collection — for Spring-Summer 2024 — was a key moment for the Maison. He transformed the brand’s LV initials to introduce “LVERS,” a state of mind founded in warmth, wellbeing, and welcomeness that became the collection’s motto, and is set to define Williams as creative director. The designer shut down the iconic Pont Neuf in Paris on a June summer night last year to release Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2024 Men’s Collection, attracting a global crowd. With the collection now hitting stores, the brand has unveiled a unique global retail experience with a series of captivating store concepts and activations. Spanning over 50 locations worldwide over the next few months, the installations embody the evolution of Williams’ vision and are all inspired by the “LVERS” philosophy that celebrates Louis Vuitton as a diverse global community united by a shared love for creativity and craftsmanship. From London to New York, the brand is introducing pop-ins, pop-ups, “residencies,” and special events featuring DJs and more. Raising the bar higher, guests who visit the spaces will also receive limited-edition carrier bags with every purchase, adorned with the collection’s pixelated “Damoflage” motif and “LVERS” logo. Expect to see stores and temporary spaces across the globe embody the expressions of the golden Damier checkers. They will pay homage to the architecture of each location and welcome two concepts around the idea of the sun being a universal source of opportunity and energy. From miniatures to on-screen life-sized holograms, guests will be immersed in a world of proportions and perspectives. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 63

In London, Selfridges has undergone a striking transformation as it welcomes a takeover of 16 windows dedicated to Williams’ thought-provoking question: “What will you do when the sun shines on you?” The Louis Vuitton “LVERS” experience at Selfridges introduces a reimagined Pont Neuf bridge constructed from 3D cubes, artfully echoing the “Damoflage” pattern. Mannequins dressed in show-stopping looks grace the floor, which is adorned with golden “Damier” checkers, effectively transporting visitors to the iconic Pont Neuf. Meanwhile, the Louis Vuitton Champs-Élysées residency, dubbed “Ephemère,” stands as another exceptional testament to the Pharrell phenom, immersing guests in the wonderful world of Vuitton from the moment they step in, with the entrance encircled in golden “Damier” pixels mimicking the rays of the sun. With interactive experiences and a dedicated “dandy club” celebrating the collection’s devotion to dandy dressing, the space immerses guests in a world where fashion meets art. And in true Parisian fashion, the residency is home to a secret Speedy Room for clients to discover Williams’ new release of the Maison’s iconic bag.

Stateside, Louis Vuitton welcomes two ephemeral boutiques in SoHo, New York, and West Hollywood, Los Angeles. In the heart of SoHo, you’ll find an exclusive pop-up store with two distinct storefronts. Inside, it showcases the entire Louis Vuitton Men’s universe, offering a curated assortment inclusive of accessories, jewelry, leather goods, luggage, ready-to-wear, shoes, and trunks from Williams’ debut collection. Open now through mid-March, and with a second drop on February 8, this pop-up store serves as the exclusive East Coast destination for the Men’s Spring/ Summer 2024 collection. The space draws inspiration from the inaugural Pont Neuf show, featuring opulent interiors adorned with shimmering gold accents, Parisian-style streetlamps, and architectural details reminiscent of the historic bridge. A checkered floor pays homage to the Maison’s classic 19th-century “Damier” pattern. A second location — accessible by appointment only — offers a oneof-a-kind experience, where a miniaturized Paris conceals a secret room displaying brilliantly colored leather Speedy bags. Similar to SoHo, West Hollywood will also be home to a brand-new pop-up haven that will host two different drops before unveiling the complete Louis Vuitton Men’s collections mid-March. For an exclusive touch, the pop-up features a hidden room concealed behind a colossal bookcase accessible only through the pull of the correct volume, and showcases the same Speedy bags as in New York, this time seemingly suspended in the darkness and illuminated by spotlights. The pop-up presents bespoke pieces like the Palace slipper and the Footprint low boot, curated specifically for the space. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 67

There’s no doubt the focal point of Williams’ debut collection is the reintroduction of the Speedy bag — and it’s now the hero of these new ephemeral spaces. A brief history: the Speedy, originally conceived by Gaston-Louis Vuitton in 1930 as the “Express,” paying homage to the era’s fascination with speed and automobiles, has a storied history of evolution. In 1959, it underwent a transformative journey when introduced in a supple Monogram canvas, solidifying its status as a must-have fashion accessory. With the addition of a safety lock, the travel bag seamlessly transitioned into the realm of city fashion. However, it was Audrey Hepburn who catapulted the Speedy to “It” bag fame in 1965, personally requesting a smaller version to suit her petite frame. Since then, the Speedy has remained a timeless Louis Vuitton signature, continuously reimagined by various creatives. Williams has breathed new life into the Speedy, infusing it with the spirit of lower Manhattan’s Canal Street. Offered in a vibrant primary color palette, the Speedy is bound to become (again) the it bag to have.

EMERSON FITTIPALDI CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE KEY BISCAYNE DAZZLED WITH AUTOMOTIVE LUXURY

1

FORMERLY RECOGNIZED AS KEY BISCAYNE CAR WEEK, THIS

three-day event transformed Key Biscayne into a global hub of luxury automobiles with the legendary Emerson Fittipaldi, a two-time Formula 1 World Champion, two-time Indianapolis 500 Champion, and CART Champion. The event welcomed cars and drivers from across the globe and, despite some stormy weather, its third year was a success. Fittipaldi, renowned for his racing prowess, expressed his deep-rooted affection for the Key Biscayne community, affirming the presentation of Concours d’Elegance Key Biscayne as a testament to his enduring love for this locale. Beyond a worldclass showcase of luxury cars, the event served as a platform to honor automotive heritage and raise funds for charities like Eternity & Grace and the Miami Project, which are dedicated to curing paralysis. Celebrating a longstanding collaboration spanning over half a century, Lotus and Emerson once again united on the occasion. This union spotlighted the championship-winning Lotus Type 72, alongside the debut of the Lotus Evija Fittipaldi and the introduction of the reincarnated Lotus Type 66. The latter, a manifestation of a “lost Lotus” design from 1970, merges contemporary racing technology with classic Lotus aesthetics, paying homage to an era of racing heritage. 3

Juan Estefan – Entrepreneur, CEO, and Wine Aficionado BY MARY GIBSON

How did you get your start in the wine & spirits business? I’ve been in the liquor industry pretty much my entire adult life. I started up at Bacardi Rum, in the marketing department, when I was 17 years old and worked with them for 15 years. When I left Bacardi I worked for Dana Imports helping them to build the brands in their portfolio. But what happens sometimes — often — is that brands run out of money. So, I left and managed some other rum and vodka brands before opening my own company and brand, JE Wine & Spirits, in 2018. My brand is something that nobody can take away from me, something that I can have and build on my own. Long story short, today I handle 11 liquor brands like Avorza Vodka, etc., and three years ago, I launched 7 y Michi wines. What inspired the name? The name 7 y Michi Wines comes from my grandfather; it’s actually a family story. My grandfather was a professional gambler, and he used to play a game very similar to Blackjack, called “Siete Media” 102 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

in Spanish, or “seven and a half.” When he put down the last card to get seven and a half, Siete Media, he would say “Siete Michi” because it brought him good luck. He said he won like this 60 or 70 percent of the time by saying this. When I was born, he was one of the luckiest gamblers ever — he even bought a house gambling. So, when I was born as Juan Emilio Estefan, he gave me the nickname Michi. I got lucky in life, like he did, because of that nickname; he was an extremely fortunate and very humble person. Where are the wines from? They’re from Chile, including from the country’s Central Valley. Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Rosé, and Sauvignon Blanc so far. They’re in 23 restaurants and about 80 percent of the liquor stores in the Miami-Dade area, distributed by Mexcor Distributor. What have you learned as an entrepreneur? It’s all about marketing. I don’t have any investors. I own the brand 100 percent. And with my company, we represent several liquor brands for others that come from another industry. People think that they’re going to launch a vodka or a rum, and it’s going to be easy. But there’s a lot of competition, and you can run out of money quickly in this industry. See, it’s all about the marketing, really.

Lupo Yacht Club: A New Way To Enjoy Luxury On The Water BY MARY GIBSON

MICHAEL LUPOLOVER IS THE FOUNDER AND CEO OF LUPO YACHT CLUB, AN INNOVATIVE AND NOVEL FRACTIONAL

How did you get your start in the yachting business? I’ve been yachting since 2010 through a fractional ownership program. In 2015, I purchased my first yacht, a 52-foot Sea Ray, and I was using it between Miami and New York — I had it docked in Chelsea Piers in the Hudson River for the summer months — and I would bring it down to Miami for the winters. When I ended up moving down here permanently, I decided to upgrade the vessel with the intention to charter. I was also chartering when I had the smaller vessel, but I thought, “Let me upgrade, and I’ll start chartering the yacht even more.” Then Covid hit, and the chartering business was booming. People really had nowhere to go and nothing to do, and they got wind of the fact that I had a yacht and that I was chartering it. I then became extremely busy and ended up buying a second identical yacht. They are both docked in Sunny Isles Beach, and each yacht has three crew members on them: a full-time captain, a stewardess, and a deckhand. What makes your company different from other yachting companies? Well, for one, the condition of the vessels. Most companies that charter vessels in Miami don’t keep a full-time crew; they use per diem captains and stewardesses. We have a full-time crew that always maintains the yachts, which helps keep the vessels in pristine condition. We don’t spare any dollars and always make sure that everything is in tip-top shape, both mechanically and cosmetically. That’s what makes us stand out. In addition to that, this is not just a business for me, but it’s really a passion project. This is something I genuinely enjoy running and building. How did Lupo Yacht Club get started? As we were chartering, I realized that there was a more personalized approach that I wanted to take with our clients, and from that, the idea of the Lupo Yacht Club was born. Lupo Yacht Club is similar to chartering when it comes to the amount of responsibility you have. You come on, you enjoy the yacht, and you come off — you’re not responsible for thinking about any of the crew, about the repairs, the fuel… nothing. Your sole responsibility is to come on and have a good time. However, unlike chartering, you’re a fractional owner, so the experience is very different when it’s your vessel, just without the headache of having to care for it. What kind of membership is it? Lupo Yacht Club offers fractional ownership; the members become owners. But unlike other fractional companies, there’s no large initial capital outlay, such as a down payment of the vessel. We’ve already purchased the yacht. You’re just paying your share of the running costs. There’s also no long-term commitment like you’d typically see; you’re just signing up for an annual commitment. Another great way to join is with your business and have the ability to write off the cost of the membership as an expense. We have three different tiers: Gold, which is $5,000 a month and gives you 10 points; Platinum, which is $7,500 a month and gives you 16 points; and then Diamond, the highest tier, which gives you 22 points a month for $10,000. During the week, one point is equivalent to one hour of usage, and on the weekends, one hour of usage is one and a quarter points. Overnights are 10 points during the week and 12 points on the weekend. Another standout is if you are a snowbird, the points roll over for up to a year. It’s that simple. This program is really a no-brainer for anyone who wants to yacht in Miami. What do you love about Miami? I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, but I’ve been coming to Miami since I was a little kid. My parents had a place here in Sunny Isles Beach, and I have always known that I wanted to live here. Now, I live right here on the beach. I love the weather, and I love being on the water. 104 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

Passionate about the yachting world, Lupolover wanted to give others the chance to own a yacht without the headache that comes with maintaining a vessel or the heavy capital outlay. Lupolover spoke to Haute Living about his unique business and love for the Miami yachting scene.

How Range Rover’s UltraExclusive Range Rover Sport SV Edition Redefined The Relationship Between Auto and Art BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

DURING THE 2023 MIAMI ART WEEK, THE PREMIER EVENT FOR MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ARTISTIC AND DESIGN

philosophy, Range Rover made its debut with a captivating sensory installation, “FORCE OF NATURE.” This installation not only highlighted the power and dynamism of Miami’s natural environment but also introduced the exclusive Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE MIAMI. In partnership with world-renowned air master and designer Daniel Wurtzel, Range Rover created an installation that fused the automotive and art industry through a sensory journey that made visitors experience the performance, the modernity, and the reductive design that define the brand. Using specially designed lights and sound coordinated with the artful harnessing of wind power, the installation provided a powerful yet serene atmosphere, and was made complete with an elegant floating silky wave that mimicked the ocean waves of Miami Beach. Inspired by the vibrant blue of the Atlantic Ocean, the Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE MIAMI boasts an exclusive Maya Blue SV Bespoke paint. This SUV, the most powerful Range Rover ever, is equipped with a 626 hp Twin Turbo V8 mild-hybrid engine, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Its 23-inch carbon fiber wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, and unique eight-piston Brembo Optima front calipers in a carbon bronze colorway add to its exclusivity. The 6D Dynamics suspension system further enhances its performance. Only seven units of this exclusive model will be produced, with a price tag of $225,000 — becoming a work of art itself and representing the pinnacle of sporting luxury and cutting-edge performance technology. The installation expressed the key qualities of Range Rover models: serenity, control, power, and liberation. “FORCE OF NATURE” captured the essence of the Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE MIAMI and the natural elements of Miami Beach. During the day, the installation served as a place for conversation, relaxation, and inspiration, and at night, the space transformed into an electric and lively nightclub, with live musical performances, curated food, cocktails, and unique experiences. With “FORCE OF NATURE,” Range Rover’s debut at Miami Art Week was a testament to their commitment to delivering not just luxury vehicles but unforgettable experiences that celebrate the intersection of art, technology, and nature. 108 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
