Sgt Paul Schultz of the RNZAF presented Sara AstonButterfield with a Certificate in Appreciation of the support Havelock School has given to the ANZAC services held in Havelock on 25 April each year. Havelock School has actively participated in ANZAC services held in Havelock to commemorate ANZAC Day over the years. In 2014 Sara co-presented with Mr B some of the research completed by students studying the outbreak of World War I and the links with those young men who left the Pelorus District to serve overseas.

Today is mufti day at school. We got to dress up as anything that begins with the first letter of our name. We had to bring food for those who do not have much food. There were prizes for the best costume. Ben won and he got a kid blow up chair. It was as fun as yesterday. Emma
I like mufti day because you wear things that start with the first letter of your name.

Mufti day was really fun. I liked it because I dressed up as a cowboy. My cowboy hat has a boar on the front. Conrad On mufti day we all had to bring cans of food and we got to dress up as something that begins with the first letter of our name. It was fun and I was a ladybird. GROUP DAY RESULTS
Thanks to all that helped with the 73rd MBGAC Group Day. This year the event was held at the Marlborough A&P park with 7 schools attending. We were lucky with the weather (although a bit windy) and children enjoyed a great day out with their animals. Stock were beautifully presented and in excellent condition which meant a tough job for judges!

SWIMMING & SEASON POOL KEYS With the pool water temp now climbing to 22o and with longer sunshine hours the time is rapidly approaching for the issuing of Season Pool Keys. Students will be swimming at school (depending on weather and water temperature) from now on so they will need to be prepared with their swimming gear (togs, towel, etc). Having all items named is very much appreciated as it makes life so much easier. Students will be working on water safety understandings, knowledge and skills over Term 4 and will get an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and progress early in Term 1 next year at the cluster swimming events. The 2016-17 Season Pool Key-holder’s Application/Agreement will be available from the school office or may be downloaded from the Documents section on the school website in pdf format from 21 November. The completed application form should be lodged with the school along with $70. At the close of season $20 will be refunded if the key is returned on or before the date stated in the agreement.
WATER SAFETY Being safe in the water does not mean that you can’t have fun but thinking about some very basic messages may save lives. • Supervision without any distractions is the single most important factor in protecting children in and around water. • Children under 8 years must be ACTIVELY SUPERVISED by a caregiver 16years or over. Actively supervised means : Watching your child at all times and be able to provide immediate assistance. • At the beach: Watch out for rips. ALWAYS SWIM BETWEEN THE FLAGS. • At the river: Watch out for strong currents and submerged objects. Pick your swimming spot carefully and check it out each time. • At the pool: Always walk around the pool and remember to check for others before entering the water. • Swimming is not just exercise for the body, it is a core-life skill which all New Zealanders need to possess no matter what their age. Sounds SeniorNet - “End of Year Get Together” Linkwater Community Hall on Friday the 9th of December. We will meet at The Linkwater Hall at 10am for a cuppa before an all-day function with three subjects of interest in the morning, a BYO buffet lunch followed by a session on Windows 10 in the afternoon. Given the limited catering facilities at the hall we suggest that finger food would be the ideal food to bring. The whole day is free for members and a mere $5 for guests. The timetable will be something like this. Times will vary and questions are welcome. 1015 - Donald McIver: Virtual Reality Power Point presentation and an inexpensive way to view it. 1045 - Marie Joyce will show just how smart a smart TV really is. 1115 - Bryan Strong will show what can be done with Chromecast. 1200 - A buffet style shared lunch, coffee and tea. 1300 - Brian Cameron and Robert Boren will demonstrate many of the hidden corners of Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. Alzheimers Marlborough assists people with Alzheimers or a related Dementia and their families. Living with dementia can be very stressful but you need not struggle on alone. Alzheimers Marlborough is now available in Havelock to provide practical information, support and education to anyone in the local community whose life is being affected by dementia.
