BRIEFLY…
As can be seen, the calendar is very full and classrooms too have been busy setting routines and putting programmes in place. Assessment is virtually complete and the Learning Conferences from 28 Feb will provide an opportunity for confirming or adjusting goals so that our learners get the best of both home and school. Very shortly information re booking a time will come home via the Boomerang Book. Please book a time to suit. Not all classes will run simultaneously but we will try to coordinate as much as possible. The url and code will allow you to do this online. For those without internet service, please respond as soon as possible with a message and “red flag” it.
KIWI CAN TAKES FLIGHT!
After completing a tandem jump at Skydive Abel Tasman Jordan says, “I would like to thank Kiwi Can for choosing me to do the skydive. It was an awesome experience to take part in. The skydive was absolutely amazing. I felt excited and nervous on the way up in the plane. The free-fall was the best part, and yes I’d do it again!”

Ted Culley from Sanford Limited personally sponsored a tandem jump at Skydive Abel Tasman for the successful ‘Flying Dolphin’ nominee. Jordan was awarded the 'Flying Dolphin' award at Havelock School in December 2016 in recognition of his consistent rolemodelling of the Kiwi Can themes of 'positive relationships, respect, integrity and resilience' throughout the year. Well done Jordan!
16 February 2017 Dear Parents As you will be aware, I was recently appointed to work with the Havelock School Board of Trustees as a Limited Statutory Manager (LSM). My appointment was made by the Ministry of Education following a request for support from the Board of Trustees. I thought it would be useful to provide you with some information about my background and experience, as well as outline what my role as LSM involves. Since 1989 I have been a school trustee on both secondary and primary school boards and was President of the New Zealand School Trustees Assn from 1996 -1998. I was also a ministerial appointee on the Special Education Board and the Teachers Council. I have had experience working in many schools throughout New Zealand as a specialist adviser, LSM and commissioner. I have project managed the school trustee elections at a national level for four elections, and was on the taskforce on Regulations Affecting School Performance. I am currently commissioner at Barrytown School on the West Coast and LSM employment at Karamea Area School. I am also an accredited NZSTA provider for Board of Trustees professional development. At Havelock School I have been given full responsibility for all matters relating to employment and curriculum management including teaching and assessment practice. I will work alongside the Board of Trustees who retain full statutory powers for every other aspect of the school. My focus will be on addressing any employment and curriculum concerns so that these do not impact on teaching and learning, as this is the core role of Havelock School. I will keep you updated as I work through my processes. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you would like to provide any feedback, discuss any concerns or ask any questions. I can be contacted on 027 229 6260 or email: janet.kelly@xtra.co.nz I will be in the school either each week or fortnight so don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like a meeting. I’m looking forward to working with the Board of Trustees and School to resolve any concerns. Yours sincerely
