IRRIGATION

WARWEG & COMPANY:

Getting Your Lawn Ready for Spring by Courtney Walker

Spring is knocking at our doorstep and the preparation of irrigating lawns for lush green grass and beautiful foliage is more than likely on your mind. Whether you are considering a new irrigation system installation or service to an existing system, Warweg & Company is the experienced and reliable full-service irrigation firm ready for your call. One of the most important topics of residential and commercial irrigation is water conservation and efficient water practices. “Manufacturers have really focused on introducing water efficient products to their contractors, and we are passing those along to our clients with the intention of saving water and saving money, said owner Chad Warweg. As technology is rapidly expanding, irrigation technology is too. Along with sprinkler heads that are both water efficient and effective, there are

now smart controllers that monitor the amount of water output to the lawn by sensing solar radiation and temperature. The system automatically makes daily adjustments based off those two factors. Have an older irrigation system? Warweg and his team can upgrade existing systems with this new technology. Home and business owners operate the AC, furnace, security systems and window treatments digitally. Why not simplify life by adding the irrigation system to the list? Another tech-savvy, money-saving feature Warweg offers is the Hunter HC Wi-Fi controller, allowing both the install contractor and homeowner to monitor the system. Warweg believes this new technology has the opportunity to revolutionize the industry. Give Warweg & Company a call today at 317-885-8983 or visit them online at wewatergrass.com.

CUSTOM HOME BUILDER

G&G HOMES’ CHATHAM HILLS ESTATE:

The Ultimate Home Builder’s Dream by Christy Heitger-Ewing

When the G&G Custom Homes decided to participate in the 2016 Home-A-Rama in Westfield’s newest custom community called Chatham Hills, they determined it was a risk worth taking because of the growth potential of the area. With the completion of U.S. 31 and the growth in the area, G&G Custom Homes, a full-service custom home builder, became the first builder to break ground and complete a home in the community. “We typically build homes on contract, but we recognized the opportunity to be a part of this unique community in Westfield,” says Joe Garcia, owner of G&G Custom Homes. More than 15,000 people toured the home in three weeks and voted it the “Best of Show”. The exterior of the 6,500 square-foot home is described as the American

Craftsman Style or American Arts and Crafts movement, which offers a wide variety of related but conceptually distinct European design movements that were developed out of the British Arts and Crafts movement going on since the 1860s. This inspired the interior design elements of the home that reflects a modern meets rustic look. The home certainly provides that wow factor with unique design elements throughout. Wood beams used in the main floor ceiling and fireplace as well as the sliding barn doors and booth in the brew house-themed basement were salvaged from a 149-year-old barn that helped create the rustic theme throughout the awardwinning home. The 4-car garage is heated and includes a basketball hoop and a climbing wall to extend the theme that this home is about

a big family that loves to entertain. The covered patio offers additional living space with a grill, sink, refrigerator, TV and plenty of space to relax. “This house essentially has a full menu of options offered by G&G that clients can select and pick the elements that work best in their budget,” Garcia says. Garcia noted the community is still taking shape and only about 15 percent complete with many more amenities being planned. G&G focuses on unique design elements that complement the needs and dreams of each homeowner, and they are ready to assist you in the design of your custom home. For a free consultation or more information about working with G&G Custom, contact Joe Garcia at 317-418-7665 or visit their website at ggcustomhomes. com to view photos of this home or others designed by G&G.

Whether remodeling an entire room or looking to add a single upgrade, it’s important to select the best products that will last for years to come. One of the best investments you can make is in your appliances. With a vast array of choices on the market today, it is important to consider your options and select appliances that provide the features and style you want at a price that fits your budget. TREND WATCH Today’s homes are open, high-tech and all about convenience. Consider the following appliances for your next upgrade. INDUCTION COOKING: Induction cooking relies on magnetic technology to heat the cookware and uses far less electricity than standard cooktops and ranges. The heating response isn't just fast – it's instant! You can boil a pot of water in three minutes. And because induction cooking only heats the pot and the area directly under it, the surrounding area is safe to the touch even when in use.

PROFESSIONAL RANGE: Professional ranges complement today’s larger, more open kitchen plans. Noted for expanded areas of multi-tasking power, gas and dual fuel ranges offer commercial-grade design and high-performance features used by professional chefs. MICROWAVE DRAWERS: For most homeowners, microwaves are the second most commonly used appliance in the kitchen (after the refrigerator). Yet for some reason, they tend to be the last item incorporated into kitchen designs. An alternative to countertop or over-range models is a microwave that opens and closes like a drawer, allowing you to place your unit in a convenient spot and out of sight.

From removing tough stains to cooking up culinary creations, appliance purchases are an investment in productivity. Don’t simply replace an appliance, select an option that is larger, faster and efficient enough to meet your needs for years to come. TO LEARN MORE about how to incorporate these top appliance trends into your kitchen, visit one of three area showrooms or go to FergusonShowrooms.com.

KITCHENS & BATHS

THE AFFORDABLE COMPANIES:

A Modernization Kitchen Transformation by Christy Heitger-Ewing

Before and after of the Sea Star kitchen remodel on Geist Reservoir.

1 4 H AV E N

From the inside looking out, the view of sparkling Geist Reservoir was gorgeous. From the outside looking in, however, it was quite a different story. The owner of this dated and dreary lakeside fixerupper recognized the potential in the space and opted for a complete renovation, though the project was challenging for a number of reasons. First, the multi-level floors disrupted the flow of the room, making it feel small and choppy. The layout of the cook top, the sink and the refrigerator was configured inefficiently so that there was no work triangle. Also, due to the number of windows and limited wall space, upper cabinet installation was difficult, as was the ability to fit a 48” range and refrigerator. “Basically, every direction we turned, our vision hit a roadblock,” says David Decker, owner of The Affordable Companies, a Carmel company that specializes in kitchen and bathroom remodels, flooring and cabinetry. “So, we had to get creative.”

The homeowner opted for large painted glass upper cabinets with interior LED lighting. To fashion modern, clean lines throughout the kitchen, his company also installed custom drawers within drawers for the lower cabinets — ideal for storing pots, pans and silverware. “Custom is great because you can essentially do anything you want in terms of dimensions,” Decker says. “If you can imagine it, we can build it.” Such choices enabled Decker to craft the desired aesthetic without compromising function. Decker kept the sink that overlooked the lake so as to not lose the dynamite view. But for the purpose of functionality, he added another full sink and dishwasher in the island to make the work triangle. “It’s important to have all the necessary pieces in all the necessary places because the kitchen is the heart of the home,” Decker says. “This is where family and friends gather to cook, eat and talk. We wanted to open it up to create a spacious, airy, inviting area that is welcoming.” Decker had fun mixing multiple metals in the room, including gold cabinet hardware, chrome plumbing fixtures, a riveted aircraft metal countertop and brass inside the rings of the teardrop pendant lights that hang above the island. Decker says he loves nothing more than to experience the rush of satisfaction that comes from seeing a major renovation project come to fruition. “When a customer calls or emails to express how happy they are with what we’ve done, that feels great,” Decker says. “Knowing we had a hand in a gorgeous transformation is what makes our jobs so satisfying.” For more designs and ideas visit their showroom in Carmel or to set up an appointment with one of The Affordable Companies’ knowledgeable designers, visit the-affordablecompanies.com or call them today at 317-575-9540.

ARDENT DESIGN:

B EG I N AT T H E EN D by Kristen Moorehouse

So, you have decided to take on a home improvement project and with hundreds of different ideas pinned and saved, you are now faced with the question… “How do I start?” Pick a paint color? Find the perfect flooring? Pick the sofa first? Then, where do I shop? How much will the project cost? With an overwhelming amount of questions and options in this modern, selfhelp, DIY world we live in, the pressure of solving all your home issues yourself may be daunting and seem rather impossible to know where to begin. Not to mention, being afraid of making a costly mistake.

Well, the answer to all the questions above is to start with a design professional. Working towards the big picture or what I like to call “buying to a plan” is the best way to go about any project. You can’t know where to start unless you know where you are going. The best way to know where you are going is by allowing a designer to get to know you, your family, your likes and dislikes and to bring all the personal elements you love into one cohesive and functional design that fits you and your lifestyle. Think of a designer as a dietitian or life coach for your home, putting together a step-by-step plan

for you to get to your desired result. No matter your project, it is always done best with help. From picking paint colors, to purchasing new furniture or renovating your kitchen, take the stress and guess work out of the process and let a professional guide you from the beginning. Give Ardent Design a call today at 317-850-6145.

HOME DESIGN

GOLDBERG DESIGN GROUP:

Designing Your Dream Home by Lynda Hedberg Thies

There are plenty of theories and ideas about what goes into building your dream home, but few provide a realistic perspective. Watching an hour-long HGTV program where an entire house renovation or re-build is complete in a mere seven weeks can create unrealistic expectations for what the process involves. Building a custom home is one of the largest investments you will make in your lifetime. Stephen Goldberg, President of Goldberg Design Group in Carmel, has 28 plus years of designing high-end, custom homes constructed in Central Indiana and throughout the country. Goldberg has the tips you need to build your dream home: 1. Find a designer that specializes only in high-end homes. 2. Ask to see their portfolio. Do you like the designs showcased? 3. Have a look at their finished drawings and the amount of detail they will be providing. How do they compare with others in their field? 4. Look for longevity. How long has the designer or builder been in the business? What is their reputation? Look for claims filed under the Better Business Bureau. 5. Education in the field. Do they have formal education and training in the field of architectural home design, or are they simply a self-taught draftsman? 6. Get references and check out their reviews online (i.e. Houzz and Google). Ask what services are included. Will they provide home design, interior design elements and property assessment, or will they only provide the home design requiring you to manage the process? 7. Ask how many projects they are currently working on. It speaks volumes if they are not busy in this market.

1 8 H AV E N

“Ultimately, the right designer can save you money, help put vision to your dreams and give you the home you always wanted.” – STEPHEN GOLDBERG Owner, Goldberg Design Group

Answering these questions and doing your due diligence will ensure that you find the right architect/designer to assist you with your project. Your designer will help you come up with the most important elements of your plan, keep costs reasonable and deliver the details to your builder. Once you’ve selected a designer, Goldberg says there are steps you can take to prepare for the initial meeting, but it is the designer’s job from that point to: 1. Establish a design that meets your needs and help you understand the timeline. 2. Provide a detailed plan and be committed to meeting your needs and solving any issues.

3. Make certain the plan embodies a creative, elegant solution, yet that the details add value to the home, not just add cost. Goldberg’s philosophy is customer-focused, and his business is referral driven. “We take our clients wants and needs and make that the primary driver,” Goldberg says. “Ultimately, the right designer can save you money, help put vision to your dreams and give you the home you always wanted.” Ready to design your dream home? GET LIGHT UNDER CONTROL with these room darkening and blackout window treatments.

2 0 H AV E N

The last thing left to do in decorating or updating your room is to select window treatments. Should be a cinch, right? Before you go full speed ahead on shutting the blinds or draperies, consider some important factors to help you select the best window treatment solution for your lifestyle. Caryn O’Sullivan, Owner of Drapery Street, recommends assessing your needs first, because basic privacy is not the only factor. Many homeowners sleep better having their bedroom totally blacked out, however, many people find it difficult to obtain a truly dark bedroom. Street lights and headlights from passing cars can penetrate through many window treatments. When choosing room darkening and blackout window treatments, the first thing to do is determine the level of blackout necessary. Are you trying to sleep during the day or do you simply want a few extra minutes in the morning? Draperies that are dark-colored and have a true

blackout lining offer the best room-darkening solution. “This is great for you, a baby’s nursery and even a theater room,” O’Sullivan says. Not only will it absorb the light, but it will absorb sound as well. You can maximize the darkness by hanging your drapes near the ceiling under a cornice board and make sure they touch the ground. For the truest blackout solution, O’Sullivan also suggests considering opaque Duette honeycomb shades. If your room only needs casual darkening, shutters or semi-opaque fabric shades might work for you. Your kitchen or family room may be rooms for which shutters work perfectly. Whatever your window treatment needs may be, consult a Drapery Street designer today to find the best solution for you. Visit draperystreet.com or call them at 317-816-9774 to schedule a free consultation.

Temperatures are on the rise, that means spring is around the corner. We all love the warmer days, but is your house ready for spring? Have you thought about spring cleaning? Our friends at Bin There Dump That – Indianapolis have a few ideas to get your home ready for spring. Lori Spink, owner of Bin There Dump That suggests starting in the garage. What items did you accumulate over the holidays and winter that need to be disposed of? Can you get to your lawn mower or does a path need to be made? Don’t forget, your grass will need to be cut soon. Our garages tend to be a gathering place for junk and unwanted items. Start by purging there then make your way inside your home. Spare bedrooms seem to gather and collect the

most stuff. Start in the closet and then check under the bed. Both places gather unwanted items very quickly. If you store old clothes or clothes that no longer fit in spare rooms, this is a great time to start a collection to give to your local church or charity. While spring cleaning ask yourself these three questions: 1. When is the last time I used that? 2. Can the item be donated? 3. Do I have multiples of the same piece?

Take this opportunity to open your windows, let the fresh air in and send the unwanted items out. Bin There Dump That is a family-owned and operated business. Give them them a call at 317590-1973 to help your decluttering process with one of their residential-friendly dumpsters.

A SIGNATURE HOME BUILDING PROCESS Old Town Design Group wants you to relax and enjoy the experience of building your new home. That’s why their team keeps the focus on you and guides you through their organized, well-coordinated building process, giving them the flexibility to minimize stress, maximize creativity, and bring the details together for a breathtaking result. When you’re home is complete, they’ll even throw you a celebration to welcome you to your new home.

2 4 H AV E N

OTDG’s building process starts with a personal consultation and ends just as personally with a celebration welcoming you to your new home at move-in. During the initial consultation, experts get to know you, finding out about your lifestyle, needs, likes and dislikes and how they can make your home special to you. Once your wants, needs and budget are established, a specialist recommends which neighborhood is the right fit for you. At that point, they will take the time to walk lots with you and choose one on which you can make your dream home a reality. The process gets exciting at this point because it’s time to design your home. The design team, led by Nate Weis, will listen to your requirements and wishes. They will then create an innovative floor plan for your family’s needs and lifestyle. Before you move on to the next step, OTDG’s internal estimating team will prepare a preliminary estimate to ensure your budget is met. A final design follows, where you’ll see comprehensive plans including exterior elevations, creative details and a timeline for your project. You’ll also receive a firm price so you’ll have no surprises at the end. OTDG’s interior design partner, Everything Home, will then help you

navigate through the selections process. They’ll help you sort through the many choices of cabinetry, appliances, faucets, paint colors, trim and more. Your personal interior designer will hold three design meetings with you to ensure your home exceeds your expectations from the inside out. The building process gets underway next, and you’ll be able to see the progress on your home every step of the way. Thanks to BuilderTREND, a new cloud-based software program, you can go online and find out at any given time what has been completed and what is next. From personal electrical walks to hands on trim discussions with the lead carpenter, the building team is in constant communication with you. They work with you and each other to ensure each task is being completed on deadline and is exactly what you ordered. When your home is complete, in an ongoing tradition, OTDG throws a celebration to welcome you to your new home and the Old Town family. Now, you too are a part of this exceptional group of people. HOME AUTOMATION

GET AUTOMATED There are plenty of advanced, integrated automation systems that allow you to control all of your home devices from one app or one voice recognition device.

DIGITAL SIGHT & SOUND:

Easy, Inexpensive Automation Ideas by Matt Keating & Ray Rice

Ray Rice, of Digital Sight and Sound, offered some simple and easy home automation recommendations in some fun formats. Here’s what he had to say: “It’s 2017, why would you not automate? It’s easy, inexpensive, effective and fun. Why wait? It’s time. Everyone reading this already has automation in their home. When you pull in your driveway, and you push a button, the garage door opens. That’s automation. It’s reliable, and we all like it.

2 8 H AV E N

If you had to get out of your car and manually open the garage door, how often do you suppose you would leave your car in the driveway? When you automate, you will likely use those home features more often. My family has had whole-home audio for 20 years. When the system was new and we wanted to turn the system on, we had to do everything manually and we didn’t use it often because it was cumbersome. When

we were tired of listening to the CDs that were in the player, we turned the system off rather than change the CDs. Today, we have a system that is controlled by our iPhones and an iPad built into the wall in our kitchen. All of the music comes from the Internet. All the music we could want is available instantly and in incredible quality. We use the system daily, and it was not expensive. You can buy it at a store and you can install it yourself.

If you’re looking for safety automation features, one way to improve safety is by installing Internet-enabled deadbolts in your doors. It’s safer to unlock a deadbolt from your office, with your smart phone, to allow the plumber or cleaning person to get in, than it is to give out your garage door code. Want to control the room temperature? Get up off the couch and get an automated thermostat. If you’re not super handy, pay a handyman or your HVAC guy to put it in. The thermostat will cost somewhere between $150 and $350, but you’ll get that money back with how much you’ll save on energy costs. There are plenty of advanced, integrated automation systems that allow you to control all of your home devices from one app or one voice recognition device. If that’s what you’re interested in, give Digital Sight and Sound a call at 317- 848-0101. If you want to try home automation, go walk around the home improvement stores. The end caps are full of devices that automate and are Internet enabled. Pick one and get in the game!”

COUNTERTOPS

STONE ARTISANS:

Countertop Choices:

Quartz vs. Granite vs. Marble by Christy Heitger-Ewing

When it comes to countertop selections, it all boils down to customer preference and application. While some love the look and uniformness of quartz, granite is “one of a kind” as no two slabs are alike. Folks seem to have a “love” or “hate” relationship with Marble.

and discoloration if exposed to extreme heat. “The mix-and-match color options of quartz make modern kitchens easy to coordinate and add personal touches,” says Cory Kroger, owner of Stone Artisans LLC in Indianapolis.

QUARTZ Quartz, a semi-gloss surface, offers a neat, clean look. With lots of colors from which to choose, it can fit almost any application. Extremely durable, quartz can handle everyday wear with ease. Since quartz is resin based, it has a lower heat tolerance, making it susceptible to warping

GRANITE What’s nice about granite is that it can take a beating and still look great. Given granite’s high heat tolerance, one can set a hot pot directly on the surface without incurring any damage. Small cuts from knives can be polished out. And if the surface begins to dull over time, it can be re-

3 0 H AV E N

polished back to a shiny near mirror finish. “Granite is for ‘the cookers,’ who use their kitchen to its full potential,” explains Cole Wallace, an employee at Stone Artisans. MARBLE Some customers shy away from marble because it’s porous and tends to absorb things that can cause damage and discoloration, including heat, harsh cleaning chemicals, acid juices, and, lest we forget, wine. Nevertheless, despite its notoriety for being the “stainable top,” Kroger insists that with the proper maintenance, the surface can last a long time.

Stone Artisans will help direct customers toward the countertop that’s right for their usage and lifestyle. They also take into account the chosen flooring and cabinet styles to find the perfect fit.

Plus, marble gains “character” in cut marks, etching, and staining. COST Although size of the slab and availability of the material play the biggest role in determining the overall price of a counter, calculating the cost is not as easy as a + b = c, according to Kroger. For instance, purchasing something from a quarry in a remote part of Brazil will obviously cost substantially more than something that comes from a manufacturing quarry that is housing excess materials. And then there’s the question of availability. “You may fall in love with a gorgeous piece

of quartzite, but if there is only one bundle of it left in the entire world, it’s going to cost a pretty penny to get it into your kitchen,” Wallace says. To help direct customers toward the countertop selection that’s right for them, Kroger asks about usage and color preferences. If they’re heavy cookers, he suggests granite. If they’re looking for a pure or solid color, he’ll introduce quartz. He’ll also ask to see their chosen floor and cabinet samples to help grasp their vision. “It’s a lot of mental visualization and artistic freedom on our end,” Kroger says. “I never try to ‘sell’ a customer on a countertop but rather help them see the end results from the stone they’re drawn to.”

It will give the space a clean, fresh look.” 2. CLEAN AND CLEAR OUT ALL THE CLUTTER. “It makes the rooms appear bigger and brighter. Nothing drives away a potential buyer more than clutter, grime and a messy home. Let more light in.”

MAINTENANCE & RESTORATION

WATERGATE ROOFING:

R O O F - S AV I N G T I P S for Spring by Stephanie Duncan

With spring comes warmer weather, storms and, unfortunately, roof damage signs you should be on the lookout for. The professionals at Watergate Roofing have roof-saving tips to get you ready.

2. PIPE BOOTS One of the common water leaks will be found in your bathroom and are caused by failing pipe boots. Pipe boots need to be changed every 5 to 7 years. So, be sure these are checked consistently to avoid leaks before they happen.

1. SHINGLES Look for curling in the shingles or blisters, both are signs that a roof doesn’t have proper ventilation. Laminate or dimensional shingles are continually becoming a more common choice on newer homes, and Watergate recommends them because of their durability. These shingles are almost twice as heavy as traditional shingles, which provides more wind resistance, and they are more aesthetically pleasing. Issues with black streaks on your roof? The black streaks you commonly see on older roofs are algae growth – a result of moisture remaining on certain areas that do not get as much sun as others.

3. ICE AND WATER SHIELD

With spring storms and severe weather, be on the lookout for roof damage.

Getting your roof treated with ice and water shield can add years to your roof. Installing ice and water shield in any roof valleys, low sloped areas or around chimneys can also help deter leaks.

Watergate Roofing offers free inspections. Their knowledgeable field reps will document any potential issues and let you know if everything is in good condition. Get your free roof inspection today. Contact Watergate Roofing at watergateroofing.com or give them a call at 317-771-5489.

FLOORING

THE AFFORDABLE COMPANIES:

So, You’re Looking for New Flooring? by Christy Heitger-Ewing

3 4 H AV E N

When customers come to The Affordable Companies in search of flooring options, the first thing the design team does is pose several lifestyle questions to help guide the selection process. They learn which room needs new flooring, the planned use for the space, who will be using it and whether or not kids or pets fit into the equation. “From there, we start going down a path of what will work best for the customer,” says David Decker, owner of The Affordable Companies in Carmel. CARPET OPTIONS INCLUDE: - Two-toned cut pile: Soft and dense, ideal for families with little ones who play a great deal on the floor. - Nylon loop: Durable but can snag, so not the best choice for families with pets. - Low cut pile and loop: Come in multiple patterns and wears well, so a smart choice for high-traffic areas. - Multi-tone patterns: Come in bold, vibrant selections that transform floors into lovely works of art. Flooring selections these days are not what they were, even just a few years ago. For instance, a hugely popular choice that has only been on the market for about a year is waterproof carpet. Liquid will never penetrate the carpet backing. This means spills and liquids will not get trapped and absorbed into your carpet pad. “Customers are surprised by the waterproof abilities,” Decker says. “It’s one thing to read about it and another to experience it firsthand.” Hardwood flooring is gaining popularity due to expanded aesthetic choices, product enhancements and longevity. Plus, hardwoods have a warm, elegant feel. You really can’t go wrong with installing hardwood flooring in your home. Customers who love the look of hardwood flooring but would prefer something that costs less, is more resilient, and holds up well to pets, often choose Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) flooring. Perfectly suited for kitchens, dining rooms, bathrooms and bars, WPC flooring is easier to install, less susceptible to dents and scratches, and less likely to expand and contract due to changes in humidity. There are also 100 percent waterproof versions that make cleanup a breeze and prevent water damage to your subfloor.

“If you want the wood look without the cost or hassle of maintenance, LVP is the way to go.”

Take your lifestyle into conderation when choosing flooring. Working with a professional can help you find the best option for you and your family.

– DAVID DECKER Owner, The Affordable Companies

“The technology has changed through the years. Engineered vinyl wood flooring looks crazy real now,” Decker says. “If you want the wood or tile look without the cost or hassle of maintenance, WCP is the way to go.” Decker suggests that anyone who is looking for new flooring should consult with a flooring professional. STEG PLUMBING:

Protecting Your Home During Spring Storms by Matt Roberts

Springtime in Indiana means the end of basketball season, school breaks and spring rains. Unfortunately, those rains often come with storms and power outages. Steg Plumbing owner and president, Cathy Stegemoller, has seen those spring storms cause flooded basements and property loss when sump pumps fail due to age, debris, or power outages. In addition to ruined photos, antiques and furniture, several feet of water can destroy drywall, carpet and even the mechanicals in your basement. Started in her kitchen more than 20 years ago, Steg Plumbing has grown to employ more than 38 people

and provide a full range of plumbing services. Steg Plumbing can replace your existing sump pump with a combo unit that includes a new main pump, a battery back-up pump and maintenance free battery. If you don’t want to replace your existing sump pump, Steg can install a battery back-up pump system with maintenance free battery to your existing sump pump system. “All sump pumps will fail at some point,” Stegemoller says. “To mitigate basement flooding risks, installing a battery back-up pump system can provide protection for your furniture and property, including your irreplaceable

ELECTRICAL

BURTNER ELECTRIC:

LED Lighting Options by Courtney Walker

There always seems to be something new in the world of lighting. Noblesville-based Burtner Electric, Inc. has more than 30 years of commercial and residential experience and can handle any of your lighting questions or needs. Remember the negative stigma that once went along with LED lighting? Think blue and white light, noticeable installation and high prices. The times have changed, and LED lighting, specifically LED cabinet lighting, has become the new expectation for homeowners. Not only has the manufacture and sales of inefficient incandescent bulbs decreased, Burtner Electric says, but LED is proving to be cost effective, energy efficient and offers different bulb color options through Kelvin units. Whether for ambient, direct or accent lighting, the

placement of LED fixtures in the kitchen is limitless and will depend on the user’s preference. Aside from the usual under-cabinet lighting, a unique kitchen lighting trend is installing LED strips in drawer banks to properly light deep or wide drawers. No longer will you be shuffling through the drawer to find your favorite spatula. According to Burtner Electric, open shelving is also a common kitchen feature installed today. They recommend adding LED strips under each shelf to highlight items displayed in your kitchen. Thinking about installing or updating your cabinet lighting to LED fixtures? Burtner Electric, Inc. has the knowledge and professional staff to help make those changes in your home. Give them a call today at 317773-7663 or online at BurtnerElectric.com.

eight months of opening their doors, Chris and Emily were both able to transition and focus their time and effort making Service Plus a full-service, residential heating, cooling and plumbing business. Fast forward 14 years, Service Plus now operates with 35 employees and a 22-truck
