Breaking the Cycle of Violence and Trauma

• The majority of women we serve have a history of trauma. 80% of our clients report trauma as a significant factor in their lives, often tied to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

• Our holistic, trauma-informed approach helps women and their children heal and thrive, breaking these cycles of violence and despair.

Addressing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Head-On

• In 2022, 78% of the 117,093 victims of police-reported intimate partner violence were women and girls. However, these figures likely underestimate the true scope of IPV, as many women are unable or too afraid to report the violence they experience. Women are often trapped in cycles of abuse, particularly when housing and economic stability are at risk. 75% of women experiencing homelessness have also faced violence, with some turning to substances like amphetamines as a means of staying awake to protect themselves and their children from violence, including physical and sexual abuse.

Supporting Women and Children Beyond Recovery

• The Jean Tweed Centre offers a continuum of care, from the initial stages of recovery to long-term support, housing, and after-care. These services give women the time and resources they need to rebuild their lives and make lasting changes for themselves and their children.

Reuniting Families

• Many of the women we serve have been separated from their children due to violence, addiction, or housing instability. At The Jean Tweed Centre, we work to reunite mothers and children in safe environments, helping to rebuild their lives and relationships.
