We had a fantastic start to the 2017-2018 school year as we opened with the annual Havre Board of Trustee Welcome Back Kick-Off on August 28th. Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Heather Haney, and Board Chair, Aileen Couch, provided very positive messages and focused attention on the importance of relationships in the education profession. This school year we welcomed 12 new certified staff members. These folks have hit the ground running and it is great having them on board.

Havre Public Schools is in the process of implementing a new Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for communicating situations in our buildings. We have started the process of training all staff members and will be working with students in the days to come. As a parent or guardian you should be hearing about the SRP at open houses and in newsletters. It is our intent to make sure that all stakeholders are well informed and are able to assist us in helping maintain the safety of our students and staff.

The Havre Board of Trustees have been looking at two major infrastructure projects. At Havre High School we are considering renovations to our Science rooms, reconditioning/upgrading all restroom facilities and addressing ventilation issues in the second floor area. At the elementary level the conversations are focused on how to move forward with either an upgrade to Lincoln McKinley or additions to one of our other existing elementary buildings. We are hopeful to engage our community in this very important discussion over the course of the school year.

Havre Public Schools’ Community Education is excited to coordinate many successful previously offered classes and several new classes for this fall session. All payments for classes are due within one week of registration. Payments may be mailed or dropped off in person at the Community Education office in the Robins Administration Building. We are now accepting credit/debit cards for payments of classes. Early registration and payment will help ensure the class is offered and is not overcrowded. Late registrations will be accepted only if class space is available and the class has not been cancelled. A $30.00 fee will be added for all returned checks recovered by Credit Bureau of Havre.

Students MUST be at least 18 years of age to participate in classes.

No exceptions!

Refunds will be made only if you notify the Community Education office five days prior to the class starting date or 10 days for classes where the instructor or Community Education purchases supplies. If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, you will be notified and refunded any payment you have made.

Community Education is always looking for instructors and classes of interest to the adult, lifelong learner. If you are interested in teaching, know someone who would be interested in teaching, or would like to suggest a class, please contact the Community Education office at 395-8550 ext. 6716.

2. Admission to fine arts activities (band concerts, vocal performances). Fundraisers not included.

3. One reduced enrollment in a multievening Community Education class. Does not include materials, rentals, bldg., or other fees.

CARDS MAY BE PICKED UP AT THE HIGH SCHOOL or ROBINS MAIN OFFICE You must present your 62+ card when registering for a multi-evening Community Education class or attending a school activity.

It is NOT necessary to renew your 62+ card each year.

This group of volunteer Board members represent the community of Havre in the governance of the entire Havre District 16 & A, which is two separate legal entities of an Elementary District and High School District. They take their responsibility and obligations as a Trustee very seriously and put in many hours of their time ensuring that the needs and desires of their constituency are addressed within the laws of the federal government, the State of Montana, their own policy, and guidance as ligated in courts of law that apply to public education. The Board of Trustees are always concerned and attuned to what happens in our schools and at the school and classroom levels as well.

Mrs. Heather Haney Havre Public School's Teacher of the Year

2017

Each year Havre Public School employees have the privilege of nominating one of their own to receive the Teacher of the Year Award. Many outstanding individuals are nominated each year and this year’s list included Heather Haney, Havre High, Marie Deegan, Havre High, and Cathy Bradbury, Havre Middle School.

During the Employee Recognition Celebration in May of 2017, Rebecca Reno, Teacher of the Year 2016, presented Heather Haney as the 2017 Teacher of the Year.

During the introduction, Mrs. Reno cited the many reasons that Mrs. Haney was so deserving of this award. Students describe her as considerate, energetic, organized, fantastic and committed. She is always available before and after school to help her students with a “sun-shiney” attitude and wants everyone to succeed. One student said, “If she could marry math, she would”.

Heather’s coworkers also shared that her students respond to her compassionate and positive guidance. She routinely challenges her students with her seemingly endless enthusiasm for learning. She is respected and works well with her colleagues. She has a welcoming spirit noted by students and coworkers alike, as referenced in her nomination letter. “When I first came to training back in August, she made me feel welcome and included. Heather has compassion for her students and is an extraordinary educator who is easy to learn from and look up to”.

Her interest in teaching began with her oldest daughter’s preschool teacher. She saw how much her daughter enjoyed school and thought to herself, “I think I’d like to be a teacher”. Heather attended kindergarten in Malta, Montana and then continued her education through grade 12 in Chinook, Montana. After high school, she received an Associate’s Degree in Business, a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Secondary Math Degree from Montana State University-Northern and a Business Education endorsement from the University of Montana-Western followed by her Masters of Science in Mathematics from Montana State University-Bozeman. Heather is a math teacher at Havre High and currently teaches Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Calculus. She has been teaching at Havre High for 7 years.

When not at school, Heather can be found escorting her children ages 14, 12 and 8 to their many activities. Summers are reserved for camping and at least one family trip. She can also be found teaching Sunday school and helping out with youth in her church.

During her address to returning educators at the annual Havre Board of Trustee Welcome Back Kick-Off, welcoming staff to the 2017-2018 school year, Mrs. Haney discussed the reason she works in education. “Our kiddos are the true reason we work in education. No matter what happens, they are and always will be our kids. In the year we spend with them, they are no longer students on a roster, they truly become a part of our lives and our hearts. I once had a former student, home from college, leave a note and some cookies in my school mailbox. The note was simple, thanking me for being a great teacher and mentor, for welcoming this student into my class, and for making math enjoyable. I tell you this story to remind you that what we do matters, every day, to every student, no matter how little we think it does. Your influence, your guidance, and most importantly, your love lives on in your kids and because of you, their lives have been enriched”. Heather ended her speech thanking her fellow educators for believing in kids and never giving up on them, taking the time to plan, grade, teach and help them. To be flexible and motivating while understanding their needs and appreciating the uniqueness of every child.

Mrs. Heather Haney Havre Public School's Teacher of the Year

2017

Each year Havre Public School employees have the privilege of nominating one of their own to receive the Teacher of the Year Award. Many outstanding individuals are nominated each year and this year’s list included Heather Haney, Havre High, Marie Deegan, Havre High, and Cathy Bradbury, Havre Middle School.

During the Employee Recognition Celebration in May of 2017, Rebecca Reno, Teacher of the Year 2016, presented Heather Haney as the 2017 Teacher of the Year.

During the introduction, Mrs. Reno cited the many reasons that Mrs. Haney was so deserving of this award. Students describe her as considerate, energetic, organized, fantastic and committed. She is always available before and after school to help her students with a “sun-shiney” attitude and wants everyone to succeed. One student said, “If she could marry math, she would”.

Heather’s coworkers also shared that her students respond to her compassionate and positive guidance. She routinely challenges her students with her seemingly endless enthusiasm for learning. She is respected and works well with her colleagues. She has a welcoming spirit noted by students and coworkers alike, as referenced in her nomination letter. “When I first came to training back in August, she made me feel welcome and included. Heather has compassion for her students and is an extraordinary educator who is easy to learn from and look up to”.

Her interest in teaching began with her oldest daughter’s preschool teacher. She saw how much her daughter enjoyed school and thought to herself, “I think I’d like to be a teacher”. Heather attended kindergarten in Malta, Montana and then continued her education through grade 12 in Chinook, Montana. After high school, she received an Associate’s Degree in Business, a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Secondary Math Degree from Montana State University-Northern and a Business Education endorsement from the University of Montana-Western followed by her Masters of Science in Mathematics from Montana State University-Bozeman. Heather is a math teacher at Havre High and currently teaches Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Calculus. She has been teaching at Havre High for 7 years.

When not at school, Heather can be found escorting her children ages 14, 12 and 8 to their many activities. Summers are reserved for camping and at least one family trip. She can also be found teaching Sunday school and helping out with youth in her church.

During her address to returning educators at the annual Havre Board of Trustee Welcome Back Kick-Off, welcoming staff to the 2017-2018 school year, Mrs. Haney discussed the reason she works in education. “Our kiddos are the true reason we work in education. No matter what happens, they are and always will be our kids. In the year we spend with them, they are no longer students on a roster, they truly become a part of our lives and our hearts. I once had a former student, home from college, leave a note and some cookies in my school mailbox. The note was simple, thanking me for being a great teacher and mentor, for welcoming this student into my class, and for making math enjoyable. I tell you this story to remind you that what we do matters, every day, to every student, no matter how little we think it does. Your influence, your guidance, and most importantly, your love lives on in your kids and because of you, their lives have been enriched”. Heather ended her speech thanking her fellow educators for believing in kids and never giving up on them, taking the time to plan, grade, teach and help them. To be flexible and motivating while understanding their needs and appreciating the uniqueness of every child.

We had a fantastic start to the 2017-2018 school year as we opened with the annual Havre Board of Trustee Welcome Back Kick-Off on August 28th. Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Heather Haney, and Board Chair, Aileen Couch, provided very positive messages and focused attention on the importance of relationships in the education profession. This school year we welcomed 12 new certified staff members. These folks have hit the ground running and it is great having them on board.

Havre Public Schools is in the process of implementing a new Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for communicating situations in our buildings. We have started the process of training all staff members and will be working with students in the days to come. As a parent or guardian you should be hearing about the SRP at open houses and in newsletters. It is our intent to make sure that all stakeholders are well informed and are able to assist us in helping maintain the safety of our students and staff.

The Havre Board of Trustees have been looking at two major infrastructure projects. At Havre High School we are considering renovations to our Science rooms, reconditioning/upgrading all restroom facilities and addressing ventilation issues in the second floor area. At the elementary level the conversations are focused on how to move forward with either an upgrade to Lincoln McKinley or additions to one of our other existing elementary buildings. We are hopeful to engage our community in this very important discussion over the course of the school year.

Havre Public Schools’ Community Education is excited to coordinate many successful previously offered classes and several new classes for this fall session. All payments for classes are due within one week of registration. Payments may be mailed or dropped off in person at the Community Education office in the Robins Administration Building. We are now accepting credit/debit cards for payments of classes. Early registration and payment will help ensure the class is offered and is not overcrowded. Late registrations will be accepted only if class space is available and the class has not been cancelled. A $30.00 fee will be added for all returned checks recovered by Credit Bureau of Havre.

Students MUST be at least 18 years of age to participate in classes.

No exceptions!

Refunds will be made only if you notify the Community Education office five days prior to the class starting date or 10 days for classes where the instructor or Community Education purchases supplies. If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, you will be notified and refunded any payment you have made.

HAVRE PUBLIC SCHOOLS Policies for use of 62+ Card Age Requirement: 62 years of age Residency: Havre Public School District—A Card: Non-transferable 62+ card entitles you to the following: 1. Admission to athletic events, excluding tournaments.

2. Admission to fine arts activities (band concerts, vocal performances). Fundraisers not included.

3. One reduced enrollment in a multievening Community Education class. Does not include materials, rentals, bldg., or other fees.

CARDS MAY BE PICKED UP AT THE HIGH SCHOOL or ROBINS MAIN OFFICE You must present your 62+ card when registering for a multi-evening Community Education class or attending a school activity.

It is NOT necessary to renew your 62+ card each year.

This group of volunteer Board members represent the community of Havre in the governance of the entire Havre District 16 & A, which is two separate legal entities of an Elementary District and High School District. They take their responsibility and obligations as a Trustee very seriously and put in many hours of their time ensuring that the needs and desires of their constituency are addressed within the laws of the federal government, the State of Montana, their own policy, and guidance as ligated in courts of law that apply to public education. The Board of Trustees are always concerned and attuned to what happens in our schools and at the school and classroom levels as well.

This program is designed for individuals receiving TANF cash assistance and provides intense case management services to participants . Applications for the Pathways Program are available in person at District 4 HRDC or through the Office of Public Assistance.

The ABLE program at Havre HRDC District 4 provides a means for adults and youth 16 years or older to enhance educational skills, workplace literacy, high school equivalency preparation, and college readiness. Our services are 100% free and available all year long. We offer a variety of services that are too long to list.

To enter the program participants must first take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). This is administered every Wednesday at 2:00pm in the ABLE classroom or other time can be arranged.

After this students will be enrolled, and a program will be prepared to meet each Individual’s needs.

As the Instructor and Director of the ABLE classroom, I want to encourage people that would benefit from the program themselves or know someone who would, to drop by the classroom, call, or check it out on HRDC’s website. You can also get updates on Facebook.
