Superintendent's Sup erintendent’s Message… Message... i
The printing of Havre Public Schools Winter Community Education flyer marks one of my favorite times of the year in our schools. The schools seem so alive with all of the activity across the district. Winter sports seasons are in full swing and the holiday programs showcase our vibrant Arts program. It really is a wonderful time of the year. Our Community Education program Coordinator, Robyn Lewis, works hard to put together many quality and diverse course offerings. We hope that you will find something that piques your interest and encourages you to try a new skill or perhaps take a refresher course on a hobby that you have not had time for in recent years. Either way, we would welcome you to sign up this winter and take part in or several course offerings. This school year has been rather unique as we have completed major milestones in our District’s long range building plan. Ribbon cutting ceremonies have marked the opening of renovated locker rooms at Havre High School and four new classrooms, as well as two renovated rooms at Sunnyside Intermediate School. The parking lot construction at Havre Middle School has really improved safety at pick up and drop off times for that building. It is very exciting to see these projects come to completion and equally exciting to anticipate the completion of our other projects. It is a privilege to work in a school district that has such great community support. It really is a partnership between community and school district that creates great opportunity for students. Thank you so much and Go Blue Ponies! Havre Public Schools’ Community Education is excited to offer many successful previously offered classes and several new classes for winter session. All payments for classes are due registration week (January 12—16). Payments may be mailed or dropped off, in person, at the Community Education office in the Robins Administration Building. Early registration and payment will help ensure the class is offered and is not overcrowded. Late registrations will be accepted only if class space is available and the class has not been cancelled. Students MUST be at least 18 years of age to participate in classes. No exceptions! Refunds will be made only if you notify the Community Education office five days prior to class starting or 10 days for classes where the instructor or Community Ed. purchases supplies. If class is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, you will be notified and refunded any payment you have made. Returned checks recovered by Credit Bureau of Havre. $30.00 will be added to all returned checks. Community Education is always looking for instructors and classes of interest to the adult, lifelong learner. If you are interested in teaching, know someone who would be interested in teaching, or would like to suggest a class please contact Robyn Lewis at the Community Education office at 265-4356 ext. 6716. The success of Community Education depends on your involvement as a student or as an instructor. Thanks for your support and here’s to a great winter session!

Andrea Keller Andrea Keller
Havre Public Schools’ Havre Public School's Classified employee ofof the 2014 employee theYear year 2014 Classified Havre Public Schools’ 2014 classified Employee of the Year is Andrea Keller. Andrea represents the non-teaching employees of the district involving clerical, maintenance, custodial, technology, school food service, paraprofessional, nurse and transportation workers. For the past seven years, Andrea has held the position as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Highland Park and just this current school year has taken on a new role as a paraprofessional with the Language for Learning program. Highland Park’s Principal Maureen Odegard says “With her patient, compassionate nature, Mrs. Keller is able to soothe even students with the most difficult temperaments and help them be successful. Mrs. Keller is the buildings go to graphic designer, bulletin board creator and overall creativity consultant! She has done a fabulous job creating mini masterpieces ranging from Highland Parks custom made staff bulletin board to amazing character bulletin boards in the hallways. Besides her creative edge, she is one of the most positive individuals that Highland Park School has ever encountered. Finally, if you have Mrs. Keller on your team you have a loyal friend for life. Highland Park has been blessed to have her on our team, and we all are excited she has been selected this year as the Classified Employee of the year!” Andrea grew up on a ranch in central MT and graduated from Harlowton High in 1990. She started college at MSU Bozeman, then went on to Australia to a wool school, traveling and working all over the southeastern part of the country. After returning home to Montana, Andrea held various jobs in the sheep industry of Montana until 1995 when she married her high school crush, Joe Keller. With Joe in the Navy, Andrea held jobs with Walmart in Washington and Hawaii, and has also worked as an insurance receptionist and at a ticket production company. Joe retired from the Navy in 2007 and they moved to Havre where he is currently employed at MSU Northern as a Diesel Technology Faculty Trainer. At times Andrea has been a stay-at-home mom with her two children. Cole is a junior at Havre High. He loves football and track and is planning to go to college for a diesel/automotive career when he graduates. Grace is a freshman at Havre High. She manages the freshman volleyball team and is happy to be playing on the freshman basketball team. She loves softball and is looking forward to being on the high school team. After High School, Grace wants to go to college to be a nurse. Outside of work Andrea enjoys watching her kids in their sporting activities. She calls herself a semi-professional photographer, taking senior and family photos. She likes to create works of art with her pictures and dabbles in graphic design. In her free time she enjoys sewing, crafting, cooking, traveling to see friends and family and camping with her husband and children. Andrea was looking for a job that would work well with her kids school schedules, so she feels that she actually “fell” into this position. She says, “ They (the children) have so much to share. When they move onto Lincoln McKinley, I always struggle letting them go because they each take a piece of my heart with them. I love working one on one or in small groups with the kids and watching them grow and become learners.” She loves seeing the progress they make and there is never an end to the funny things that the kids say. Sometimes her job is complicated, and every day is different Andrea strives to be adaptive to each situation. Andrea’s hope is to be a bright spot in the lives of the children and her co-workers as she comes into contact with them throughout the school day. “I’ve learned so much over the years and have really grown to love my job and my Highland Park family,” she stats.
“This award is a way of recognizing one of Havre Public Schools’ outstanding employees.” Congratulations to Andrea Keller Havre Public Schools’ Classified Employee of the Year 2014
