Artistic Advisor FROM THE
Aloha, Hawai‘i Symphony Ohana! The musicians and I are delighted to welcome you to another season of music, an escape from the world around us into the world within us.
The Finnish composer Rautavaara believed that each one of us has an enchanted island deep inside us, and that the only way we can access that magic place is by listening to music! Let the musicians of the symphony become the vessel that can transport you to that world of indescribable beauty through their passion and their commitment to excellence. You will find many of your favorites this season Beethoven Symphony No. 5, Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade, and masterpieces by Brahms, Dvořák, Bruckner and others. Two of our beloved principals will be featured as soloists our concertmaster Iggy Jang and principal cellist Mark Votapek, and we will have spectacular sonic presentations like the SaintSaëns’ Symphony No. 3 “Organ” and Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé. Old friends will return to light up our stage, and you will discover some spectacular new artists who will amaze you. And YOU is exactly what it is all about! All of our training, our lessons, our practicing, lead us to the one thing we love the most - playing for you! We hope that you can feel the love on the stage surrounding you, and the intensity as we pour all of our emotion and passion into works we hope that you will love. We certainly look forward to journeying to that Isle of Bliss together, and to celebrating the power of music to move us in a way that nothing else can. Mahalo, and welcome to the new season!
