A PET shop celebrated its relaunch with the help of two celebrity “barking blondes”. Stefano Salles took over Dr Doolittles 2 in Streatham Hill in July and wanted to mark the shop’s new era with a grand reopening. Dog lovers Joanne Good and Anna Webb, hosts of weekly BBC radio show The Barking Hour and co-authors of Barking Blondes, cut the ribbon for the occasion. Mr Salles, 50, has lived in Streatham for 10 years and was a travel agent before he took over the pet shop. He said: “My main love was always animals and I always had pets, so now I have combined my hobby with my business.” He said he was really “chuffed” that the dogloving radio hosts agreed to come and was delighted to see so many regulars – and their dogs! Ms Good said: “We love that the shop has been a pet shop for years, in what is a beautiful Victorian building. “The event was so ‘local’, we could have been in a village!” The store is one of the largest independent pet shops in South London and sells food, toys and accessories for pets.

Thug toppled 93-year-old in robbery attempt By JACK GRIFFITH A WOULD-BE robber who pushed over a 93-year-old woman who was using a walking frame is behind bars.

Monir Saleh, 27, targeted the pensioner as she walked to bins outside her home in Clapham, on October 31 last year. Saleh approached the woman from behind, pushed her back into her home and to the ground and searched through her shopping trolley. He ran off down a fire escape behind the house after he was disturbed by a neighbour who had heard the screaming. Saleh was caught on CCTV and traced after a media appeal. He was charged in April. Saleh, of Patmore Estate, Battersea, admitted attempted robbery at Inner London Crown Court last month and was jailed for three years and four months on Wednesday. Detective Constable Luke Bielby, from the Lambeth Robbery Squad, said: “This was a nasty attack that left the victim extremely shaken.”
