A DAY of family fun and community spirit was enjoyed By HAYLEY RICHARDSON at St John’s Hill Festival.
Racing goldfish, live music and a bouncy castle were among the many attractions on offer at the annual event, now in its eighth year. Bars and restaurants spilled out on to the streets and traders set up stalls offering residents a chance to sample their wares. The festival is organised by the St John’s Hill Traders’ Association and funded by shops and businesses, with money raised going to the St John’s
Hill Community Project. This year’s principal sponsor was the FishClub, whose co-founder and co-owner Steve Orme is chairman of the traders’ association. The popular restaurant was celebrating its 10th anniversary and staged its famous Great Golden Goldfish Gala. Mr Orme said: “Eight years ago we decided to do something positive and good for the community.

“We wanted to put a smile on people’s faces and make the street a nicer place to live, work and play. “The festival does just that, and it gets bigger and better every year.” He said the Great Golden Goldfish Gala was the main attraction. “It’s an institution on the hill now. “It’s great as there are three winners – the winning goldfish, the winning person who gets a free lunch from FishClub and the community, as all proceeds go towards funding this year’s Christmas lights.”
