Interior Design

Design Concept As mentioned, Ricky’s Kitchen features classic Hong Kong dishes. Costumers are served with local fusion foods enjoying unique Hong Kong styled experiences. Tong Lau integratie Chinese and western architectural expression. The dominating green color is from the green wall tiles(青磚牆) in the 1st generation of Tong Lau. For example, Lui Seng Chun, a roundcornered Tong Lau, using round corners as a character. This 20th-century modern style element inspire us to remove hard corners in the design. There are many beautiful features hidden in Tong Lau, are culturally diverse. Especially the decorations, such as the geometric lines on the railings, window grilles, and the Romanstyle pillar carvings, which are a bit out of the western flavor of the Eastern architecture, and they are very trendy in the ‘80s. The delicate wooden doors set off the twisted iron fence, showing the gentleness of old Hong Kong. These type of details are softly embedded around the restaurant.

08 In the early 1930s, the world has entered the “modern” era, and Hong Kong Tong Lau has also entered the third generation of development. The use of reinforced concrete to build houses has become a mature and economical construction technology that is widely used in countries around the world. Hong Kong’s Tong Lau also follows the technology and uses reinforced concrete widely. The shop front extracted elements from the Tong Lau, such as, neon light sign, Art Deco’s arch, window frames and frosted glass. And also with modern elements like black metal with golden edges redefining the cultural diversity experience. Bring local people ‘s common memories while promoting the local culture to the foreigners.

09 The design of the reception desk and the grab & go counter facing the mall referencing Tung Tak Pawnshop - one of Hong Kong’s built heritage. The door of the reception desk has replicated the half-height door used at the store. For the layout, the booth seats split the restaurant into two parts while taking out some of the booth seats for passages. There are Doric arches in between to keep the connection of the booth seats. Customers are possible to pass through three arches include the golden one at the shopfront.
