Interior Design

Nameless X The Food Story

Design Concept Ricky’s Kitchen features both classic Hong Kong and Chef Signature tasting dishes in comfortable surroundings familiar to all Hong Kong locals. The cultural integration of foods inspire the design. In Hong Kong, the British colonial period is a phase that best reflects Chinese and Western cultural combination. The interior design is highly involved with Hong Kong’s vintage elements. For example, the shop front and reception design are taking the facade of Tong Lau as a reference, also the Hong Kong vintage handmade ceramic mosaic-like floor tile’s pattern. In the colonial era, there are many western decorative ideas brought to Hong Kong. They help recreating the atmosphere of Hong Kong’s cultural diversity merging both local and western ideas. In terms of color, red and black are the domination. Red is reminiscent of restaurant food, black adds modern style, and golden edges as embellishment. The main dining area is forms by loose furniture and benches, which facilitates flexible table merging. As a restaurant that serves Chinese cuisine, round tables account for a certain percentage.

In the early 1930s, the world has entered the “modern” era, and Hong Kong Tong Lau has also entered the third generation of development. The use of reinforced concrete to build houses has become a mature and economical construction technology that is widely used in countries around the world. Hong Kong’s Tong Lau also follows the technology and uses reinforced concrete widely. The shop front extracted elements from the Tong Lau, such as, neon light sign, Art Deco’s arch, window frames and frosted glass. And also with modern elements like black metal with golden edges redefining the cultural diversity experience. Bring local people ‘s common memories while promoting the local culture to the foreigners.

Apart from the presentation of the cultural integration in the design element, the floor plan has also combined the cafe and Chinese restaurant layout. The floorplan was formed in two parts. The first part is round tables of loose furniture, which is a common setting in a Chinese restaurant. The second part is the bench, which creates the flexibility of table seats. Many western elements were used in the furniture to replicate a cafe environment, in strong contrast to the food visually.

Lighting Highlight

Nameless X The Food Story

In order to match with the concept theme nostalgia ceiling fan light were used as a lighting decoration combine with black shell track light for substance use. Red LED light will be installed at the false ceiling at the end of the shop, gives a little “spicy” touch in the interior design.

Lighting Effect Due to the color tone of the interior design is dark, and the style of the restaurant is more casual and daily. Compare to the high-end restaurant the lights will be brighter, mainly use warm white.
