PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Wow! There is a lot going on here at the HBA!! First I want to thank everyone for the awesome July GMM at Burkes BBQ. Thank you Don Magruder and all the Romac Lumber staff for sponsoring, promoting and helping during the event. We could not have done it without all of you. THANK YOU!! I have received a lot of positive comments from many members especially the Sumter county folks, for making it closer to them. Special thanks to Carolyn and Kelly for all of their hard work before and during the event. It was Great to see all the folks from The Villages. We had a head count of 121!! That is a great turnout!! I really want to Re-Enforce the fantastic opportunities that will avail themselves at the upcoming Fall Home Show on Nov. 9th at the Wildwood Community Center (in the Villages), White Aluminum purchased multiple booths knowing how great a show it will be. More buyers are eligible for financing, and there is still a strong presence of investors buying properties for rentals, and holding them for market appreciation. There is scarcity of inventory in certain price segments, resulting in buyers having to shop longer for a move-up or larger property. The market will be looking to homebuilders to quench the thirst of ready, willing, and able homebuyers. How do homebuyers find you? One excellent opportunity is the HBA Parade of Homes. Last years’ event was a huge success, with traffic up in new home communities and sales of new homes as a direct result of the Parade. Multiple sources of exposure to the public drew hundreds of people through the doors of the model homes, and created hits on websites. If you are in the business of building homes, you need to be a Parade of Homes participant!

Governmental Affairs (GA) Impact Fees are the hot topic with the Governmental Affairs committee. The Transportation and School impact fees are both up for discussion with the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and the Lake County School Board. The BCC has already voted to implement a 13% impact fee for ALL of Lake County, now they are considering a 70% impact fee for the newly formed South Lake Taxing District. That comes to almost $3000 for a single family home being built in South Lake. The School Board voted 3 to 2 to recommend 100% School impact fees to the Lake county BCC. That equates to $10,292 for a single family home. GET INVOLVED!! Watch your eAlerts for updates of meetings that you can attend and voice your opinion on these unfair fees. The Governmental Affairs Committee meets Monthly on the first Wednesday at 9 AM. Bill Wilburth (WC Wilburth), Remodelers Council Chair and Jim Rahman (Westmont Construction), Green Building Chair The August Remodelers Meeting was an interesting presentation by Jeremy Lipham, Ro-Mac's Design Center Manager. Jeremy described the new 3-D design tools that Ro-Mac is implementing in the design center. A sample of the documents was provided for all to view. Jeremy's wealth of knowledge was evident in his presentation of this new product. By implementing this new idea, we all will benefit from more accurate take offs in a very timely manner with products integrated into our plans. Don Magruder indicated this new product was to help Ro-Mac customers provide more efficient product estimations when building or remodeling homes. A big thank you to Ro-Mac for providing such a tasty lunch for all to enjoy. We had a great turn out and if you are not coming you are missing out on all the new products available. Thank you to all who attended and participated. In support of the Future Builder's of America, our September meeting will be on the 11th at noon at RubyTuesdays in Clermont.
