Shopify decideS to change the game
Shopify, a Canadian multi-national ecommerce platform has launched its own competitive gaming organization called ‘Shopify Rebellion.’ As per the latest tweet of Tobi Lutke, CEO of Shopify, the organization is already set to make its debut in StarCraft 2. It is no longer a secret why Rebellion had recently on-boarded some of the top players in the game including Byun Hyun the 2016 world champion, Lambo (final four of most of the top grossing events of the game earning more than USD 100K while competing) and Scarlett who took home major StarCraft 2 championship along with a USD 50,000 prize and a title of the first woman to win a major international event. This move by Shopify points towards the interests of top ecommerce players and multi-national companies (MNC) in the world of esports. Checkout the tweet here. The announcement also hinted that another tournament is being planned for the month of July which will feature top gamers and influencers. There will be a total of 16 regions participating in the FFWS including Philippines, Cambodia and Bangladesh. Check out the video here.
