Sabinal Yard-of-the-Month by Billie Franklin

The Sabinal Civic Club has selected the home of John and Diana Silva as Yard-of-the Month for December. The home is located at 401 W. Rheiner Avenue. There are 3 pecan trees that stand

as if sentries to protect the home from heat in summer and break icy winds in winter. For Christmas, they wear a wrap of white lights at the base of each tree and the bushes in front are

each decked in a coat of red. Icicles drip from the roof top in a final touch of lights. To the left are a group of reindeer and a small snowman smiles cheerily.

From left to right in the the picture it’s Sue Sanders of Camp Wood, Shaniece Hohman, Melody Salazar of Camp Wood, and Duke Hohman. They take a yearly family girls trip and this year, they went to Colorado and New Mexico. The picture is them at Coors Field in Denver Colorado. They went to watch the San Francisco Giants play the Colorado Rockies. We have Christmas ornaments, note cards and mugs still available. If you still have a Centennial picture send it in! We have had a great time with this series and have garnered a tremendous amount of media coverage for our communities!

In last week’s edition we incorrectly stated the Precinct number for Precinct 1&2 to include Precinct 6, it DOES NOT. Incumbent Dianne Rogers will run against Ricci Pendley for the position. Justice of the Peace, Chris Lacey will not seek reelection to the Real County JP Pct. 3 & 4. Mark Carlile of Camp Wood and JD Martinez, of Leakey, have filed for the position. County

The Nueces Canyon High School COTRAN (college transition) class spent several days with the staff of the Real County Nutrition Center helping spread the Christmas

spirit. They enjoyed the fellowship time as they decorated and wrapped approximately 150 presents for the Center’s clients. Participating in volunteer work is a

blessing to all involved, and this time of year is the best time for spreading that Christmas cheer. Merry Christmas to all from NCHS COTRAN!

This contest challenges the best students from across the area to practice 8 scales and two pieces of music for their instrument. The students are ranked in order based off of their performance of the material. Once the judges have the students in order the top few from each section are selected to the Symphonic “Band”, and the next few in each section are selected to the “Concert Band”. Those elite few who were selected to one of the All-region bands performed a concert on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in Lytle, TX. continued page 2

Nueces Canyon Junior Livestock Association Dates by Jan Henderson

In this busy season it is hard to remember what happened five minutes before. There are two dates I need everyone to remember. On December 21st the NC Jr Livestock will be hosting our local show, starting at 9:00 AM. Come support our kids as they show and gain experience for the Real Co. show. The girl scouts will have a concession stand to help keep you warm.

On Jan 6th, the first meeting of the year for the NC Jr Livestock Association will be held at Two Fat Boys restaurant at 6:30 PM. This meeting is important

because it is time for the election of new officers and a new board. Our youth have many activities that they are involved in. It is important that they have the opportunity to raise and show animals. This benefits their future. Both the rodeo and the NC Jr Horse Club fall under the umbrella of the NC Jr Livestock Association. As the president for the last two years, I will be retiring. We are blessed to have a great facility and arena. The club needs members interested in taking care of it for the youth and the future youth of the canyon.
