The Caddel-Smith Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, met at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the El Progresso Memorial Library in Uvalde with 17 members and 3 guests present. The meeting was called to order by President Judy Burleson at 10:30 a.m. She welcomed members and guests in attendance. Mrs. Burleson led the pledges to the United States and Texas flags, and Chaplain Cheryl Ratcliff gave the invocation. The program was given by James Brantley Hightower, author of The Courthouses of Central Texas, who had slides from his book showing the various architectural styles used in courthouses over the years. It was a most interesting presentation.

The Minutes of the October meeting were read by Secretary Karen Collins. Treasurer Ernestine Carson reported that the chapter has 105 active members and 3 emeritus members. Mrs. Burleson read a thank you note from El Progreso thanking DRT for the book presented to them last month. Billie Nast presented a copy of Old 300 by Paul N. Spellman, to El Progreso Library, which was accepted by Virginia Davis on behalf of the Library. Mrs. Burleson read the Republic of Texas History Complex report from John Ellen Becker.
