NEW FACE OF THE REAL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE by Julie Becker

Real County Sheriff Bruce Carr was appointed last year to fulfill the unexpired term of Former Sheriff James Brice. Carr and his wife, Lana, relocated to Real County in 2012 from Houston, Texas and Carr began working at the Sheriff’s office in March of that year. Carr brings with him 33 years of experience at the Harris County Sheriff’s office. He started as a Deputy and advanced to Corporal. He held several positions in his years at Harris County including Head of Bond Forfeiture Division, Vice, Narcotics, Human Trafficking, as well as being assigned to a FBI task force. Carr said in a recent interview, “Thank you to the Commission-

ers for their vote of confidence and support, it is greatly appreciated.” Carr said he enjoys working here in Real County and will maintain an open door policy. “I want to thank Sheriff James Brice for the opportunity he initially gave me to continue my law enforcement career. Carr has hired two new deputies, Steven Castro and Mark Cox. Deputy Nathan Johnson remains on the force as well. Carr’s wife, Lana works for the Real County Attorney’s Office as well as being the new Republican Party Chairperson. Look for future article introducing the new deputies.

MISS MIMI’S LAW AND THE COME AND TAKE IT FLAG By Elaine Padgett Carnegie

We are calling it “Miss MiMi’s Law”. We were inspired by her plight last year to write the three part series on Home Owner’s Associations to bring the struggle of Texas Property Owner’s, denied the most basic rights “on their own property“ into the view of the Texas public. The 82nd Legislature in 2011 acted on behalf of Property Owners to protect Texas Property Owners rights against their own POA’s or HOA’s. In 2013 there was some minor legislation accomplished, but nothing to compare to the sweeping legislation of 2011. It has come to the attention of the Republican Party that further protection

is necessary. Armed with our series of articles, Terri DuBose took the cause to Austin. There is now an Official Resolution drafted by the State Republican Executive Committee. It passed the 62 member body, unanimously! It is a real beginning to have the State Republican Executive Committee recognize the dilemma of individuals who are being deprived of their basic rights! Now, I’m going to tell you why we call it “Miss MiMi’s Law”! HB 2779 proposes to protect the rights of Property Owner’s to fly any flag that has historical significance for our Great State.

housewife, following him when she could. As a result of that union, their only child is William “Bill” Tyler of San Antonio. On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, crippling the U S Navy fleet, and war broke out once more for America. Harry was back ready for fighting with the 1st Infantry, only this time in Gainsville, Florida, he hurt his legs climbing on a ship. In spite of the accident, he made Master Sergeant and

went to Brooklyn to work with the Adjutant General at the Port of Embarkation at New York. He was then sent to Guam for 2 1/2 years as Adjutant General and made Lieutenant Colonel. He was then shipped to Fort Sam Houston and from there after almost 35 years in the military, he retired from the service in 1952. The work he did then was to tend to his roses in his yard in San Antonio. Bill lost his Dad in 1988.
