Former Real County Deputy Don Gass announced this week his candidacy for the position of Real County Sheriff. Gass was formerly a Real County Deputy for over 14 years. “Our good community deserves a sheriff who will be ready on day one, a candidate who has a proven and reliable reputation in the law enforcement area,” Gass stated. Gass said his priorities are to keep the community safe, protect victims of violent crimes, stay on budget, hold criminals accountable and support deputies and judicial officers. Gass is a long time resident of the Uvalde and Real County area, born in Uvalde, Texas. He and his wife, Carrie have called Leakey home for over 16 years. He saw all of his children graduate from Leakey ISD. Gass has been in law enforcement for over 21 years including the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Department. His positions have

My goal is to preserve the safe and lawful environment we all currently enjoy and want for our children and community. I am a very strong advocate of public service. My experience with the Real County Sheriff’s Department has prepared me for the task at hand, protecting our communities!” Gass is running on the Republican ticket. The Republican primary election will be held March 1, 2016. Gass encourages everyone to make sure they are registered to vote! and would appreciate your support.

with 1 minute into the game. Coleman Kerr added the 2-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead over the Panthers. The lead will last about 6 seconds that was all the time that Panther QB and kickoff return specialist Tony Sanchez
needed to get into the end-zone. 2 point conversion was also added on a Sanchez to Bradley Reed, the first of many more to come. continued page 4

Our Library Is Open for Business The Real County Public Library Leakey reopened on October 26, as scheduled, after closure for the Library Rejuvenation Project, which began in late August. Our renovation is almost complete, with finishing touches being made over the next few weeks. Last week, as of Friday afternoon, over 150 patrons had visited the Library, taking advantage of the many services the Library offers our community. The Library is owned and operated by the Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization which relies on memberships and donations to fund the operations. In 2014, over 21,000 visits were made to the Library, and we are on target to exceed that number in 2015. In addition to the loaning
of books, the Library and staff provide electronic reference resources, high speed WiFi for Internet access through one of our computers or a personal device, photocopies and faxes, among other services. The Library operating schedule is as follows: Monday, Wednesday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. to 5: 30 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1: 00 p.m. Please take a moment during your visit to comment in our FOL guest book. One of our past out of town visitors commented that our Library is a “local gem”. Plan to attend our grand re-opening on Friday, November 13, from 2:00 p.m. to 5: 00 p.m. Come see the wonderful updates and changes to our “local gem”!
