This past October we had our 10 year accreditation visit by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The end result was outstanding but of particular pride to me was the exemplary rating Holy Cross received regarding its Catholic identity and mission. The report stated that “The culture of Holy Cross High School lives out the philosophy of its founders and reflects a commitment to implementing the mission of the school.” In short, it affirms that we are who we say we are and we do what we say we do. While there have been many changes at Holy Cross over the years, you have my personal assurance that we are and will always be true to our Mission. After an unanticipated delay, our Take-A-Seat campaign efforts came to fruition with the Spring Concert being the first event held in our newly refurbished auditorium. The Holy Cross Fund, our annual giving campaign, is on pace to have our best year ever and we continue to reconnect with alumni not only through our CrossWords newsletter but with regional gatherings in New York and Boston. We hope to have similar events in other cities, such as Washington, DC and the west coast. Mr. Daniel Scavone, Class of 1980, will assume the position of Principal of Holy Cross on July 1, 2008. Mr. Amadeo Rinaldi, who served as Interim Principal this year, will begin a well-deserved retirement at the end of this school year. Next year will be the 40 th Anniversary of Holy Cross High School. Forty years of educating hearts and minds will be celebrated throughout the school year. All of the aforementioned and so much more are made possible only through the efforts of everyone in the Holy Cross family. I am most grateful to all of you. Our continued pursuit of excellence, with your ever present support, will insure that the Mission will always be alive and well at Holy Cross, Waterbury. Sincerely,

The Commission on Independent Schools has granted Holy Cross High School continued accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). NEASC accreditation occurs every 10 years and involves a review of an intensive self-study, as well as site visits, to assess the quality of an institution and its programs. Holy Cross has been commended throughout the accreditation process for professionalism and collegiality as well as its adherence to its mission, “to assist in the total Christian Education of young men and women.” In its final report, the NEASC Visiting Committee commended Holy
Cross for: “their collegial, well-trained faculty who are truly dedicated to their students,” a program “exemplary in fulfilling its goal of teaching the whole student through an academic program that respects diverse learning styles and abilities,” “supporting the varied and numerous student activities, including athletics, that include outreach and service to the community at large, . . .and assuring access to non-academic pursuits to further enrich the overall experience for all students,” “its commitment to having significant contact with parents, faculty, students and other constituents of the Holy Cross High School community,” and “for the creation of a technologically rich
environment.” Some of the recommendations made by the committee included: continuing with already laid plans to reduce full-time teaching loads; continuing to develop and implement strategies for an inclusive evaluation process for staff and faculty; continuing to increase resources available for scholarships and financial aid; and implementing the plan outlined in a recently completed comprehensive facilities audit. The Commission went on to say, “As a school community, Holy Cross administrators/faculty/ staff pursue daily responsibilities in a culture and context that strives to attain excellence in every aspect of their endeavors.”

Sincerely,

Cross for: “their collegial, well-trained faculty who are truly dedicated to their students,” a program “exemplary in fulfilling its goal of teaching the whole student through an academic program that respects diverse learning styles and abilities,” “supporting the varied and numerous student activities, including athletics, that include outreach and service to the community at large, . . .and assuring access to non-academic pursuits to further enrich the overall experience for all students,” “its commitment to having significant contact with parents, faculty, students and other constituents of the Holy Cross High School community,” and “for the creation of a technologically
rich environment.” Some of the recommendations made by the committee included, continuing with already laid plans to reduce full-time teaching loads; continuing to develop and implement strategies for an inclusive evaluation process for staff and faculty; continuing to increase resources available for scholarships and financial aid; and implementing the plan outlined in a recently completed comprehensive facilities audit. The Commission went on to say, “As a school community, Holy Cross administrators/faculty/ staff pursue daily responsibilities in a culture and context that strives to attain excellence in every aspect of their endeavors.”

Sincerely,
