Fall 2006

Holy Cross High School • 587 Oronoke Road Waterbury, CT 06708 • 203.574.5422

Dear Friends of Holy Cross,

We often hear the expression that change is good. How true. Change affords us an opportunity to broaden our horizons and look to the future with renewed confidence and great strength. All growth is based on our ability to acknowledge the power and potential of change. Holy Cross is no exception. Change is a powerful force for good and we are changing in so many ways. A major shift which recognizes the strength and vitality of Holy Cross has occurred in the Development Office now called the Office of Institutional Advancement. This office plays a vital role as the public face of Holy Cross High School and is specially charged with the task of securing the future and strengthening the vision and mission of the school.

I am exceedingly pleased to announce that Mr. Tim McDonald has assumed the position of Vice President for Institutional Advancement while continuing his duties as principal this year. I know that you share my excitement in making this significant appointment. Tim’s distinguished record of unparalleled service positions him perfectly for this office. I have every confidence that he will accomplish great things in the years ahead. I know that he will count on you for your continued support and care of Holy Cross High School. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the great team that will be assisting Tim. They are competent, dedicated, and strong and will be a great asset to the advancement efforts. I know that Tim will introduce them elsewhere in this Newsletter. I extend my personal thanks for all of your support and concern. We count on you to stand with us as we move forward in our efforts to bring an education in the Holy Cross Tradition to the young men and young women of the Greater Waterbury area. Be sure of my prayers for each of you. Sincerely,

Br. Jerome Donnelly, C.S.C.

Office of Institutional Advancement 13

The function of the Development Office is moving to the broader role of Institutional Advancement. In order for Holy Cross to continue to provide an outstanding educational opportunity, to pursue excellence in all aspects of school life, and to remain competitive as a school of choice, funds beyond tuition will play an increasingly important role in the life of the school. To this end, I have accepted the position of Vice President for Institutional Advancement. I will be responsible for the development and maintenance of an ongoing comprehensive program of advancement for Holy Cross High School. This program includes but is not limited to admissions and enrollment, communications and marketing, publications, fundraising, alumni affairs, capital giving and various internal support constituencies. Joining me on the Advancement team will be Cary Razza Fappiano ‘85, Jodie LaCava McGarrity ‘93, and Ellen McGaughey.

It is important to note that all of the aforementioned individuals have been on staff at Holy Cross and already carry out some of their responsibilities. There has been no staff added, rather a restructuring of the former development operation has occurred. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to meeting the challenge. With your help - parents, alumni, and friends of Holy Cross- I am confident it can be met. Sincerely,

14
