La Copa de Naciones de Polo, lanzada por la federación francesa de polo y el Polo Club de Chantilly, fue un verdadero éxito: con ocho equipos participantes y más de diez días de competición por todo lo alto. Todo ello con un cierre de cinco estrellas, gracias a una emocionante final que cayó del lado de PACA Francia, un competitivo equipo formado por cuatro jóvenes polistas, todos de formación francesa. Esta primera final enfrentó a Francia contra Corea del Sur, una joven federación de polo deseosa de desarrollar el deporte en su país y posicionarse en el mapa internacional del polo. Un primer éxito con su clasificación para esta final en Chantilly.

Corea tuvo que enfrentarse a una joven y ambiciosa selección francesa, que tomó el control de la final desde el principio. Así lo explicó el MVP (Julien Reynes): “Es una victoria del equipo, como era un torneo por equipos jugamos desde la colectividad y así conseguimos todos los triunfos. Al inicio, la final estaba muy cerrada pero logramos abrir el juego y ahí fue cuando marcamos la diferencia, el año pasado ganamos un torneo del mismo nivel con este equipo, y eso demuestra que estamos en por el buen camino. Estamos encantados de haber ganado esta primera edición, ya que la Polo Nations Cup está llamada a convertirse en un torneo de referencia en el circuito internacional”.

The Nations Cup launched by the French polo federation and Polo Club de Chantilly, was a real success: with eight teams participating and more than ten days of competition in great style. All with a five-star ending, thanks to an exciting final that was won by PACA France, a competitive team formed by four young polo players, all trained in France. This first final saw France clash against South Korea, a young polo federation hoping to develop polo in its country and position itself on the international polo map. A first success with its qualification for the final in Chantilly.

Korea had to face a young and ambitious French side that took control of the final from the outset. As the MVP (Julien Reynes) explained: “It is a team victory, as it was a team tournament we played as a group and that is how we achieved all the victories. To begin with, the final was very close, but we managed to open up pay and that was when we made the difference, last year we won a tournament of the same level with this team, and that shows that we are on the right path. We are delighted to have won this first edition, as the Polo Nations Cup is destined to become a benchmark tournament on the international circuit.”

Para David Ko, el capitán coreano (mejor jugador amateur), la clasificación para la final fue una victoria en sí misma: “Estar en la final fue una gran sensación, fue bastante inesperado, pero estuvimos aquí gracias en particular a nuestros dos jugadores profesionales, Santiago Irastorza y Tito Guiñazu. Ser MVP es una cosa, pero sobre todo es un gran comienzo para el polo coreano. Este tipo de torneos nos enseñan a jugar mejor, y volveremos el próximo año para la Polo Nations Cup y antes de eso para otros torneos importantes en Francia, como el Open de France aquí en septiembre. El polo todavía está en pañales en Corea, pero espero que podamos traer más jugadores a Francia el próximo año”.

Esta primera y “joven” Copa de Naciones está destinada a convertirse en un gran acontecimiento. Su concepto ya ha conquistado a varias naciones nuevas, que han manifestado su interés en participar el próximo año, el año olímpico. Como suele pasar estos días en el Polo Club de Chantilly, este día de la final fue hermoso... pero quedan muchos más, comenzando por el próximo torneo del mismo nivel que comienza esta semana, el Charity Cup, y sobre todo el Open de France el próximo mes de septiembre, donde se ha anunciado la participación de al menos una veintena de equipos.

For David Ko, the Korean captain (best amateur player), qualifying for the final was a victory in itself: “Being in the final was a great feeling, it was quite unexpected, but we were here thanks in particular to our two professional players, Santiago Irastorza and Tito Guiñazu. Being MVP is one thing, but above all it is a great start for Korean polo. This type of tournaments teaches us to play better, and we will return next year for the Polo Nations Cup and before that for other important tournaments in France, such as the French Open here in September. Polo is still in its infancy in Korea, but I hope that we can bring more players to France next year.”

This first and “young” Nations Cup is destined to become a great event. Its concept has already conquered several new nations, who have shown their interest in participating next year, the Olympic year. As is normally the case over these days at Polo Club de Chantilly, this final day was beautiful...but there are lots more to go, beginning with the next tournament of the same level, which is beginning this week, the Charity Cup, and especially the French Open in September, with the participation of at least twenty teams announced.
