Our part-time courses are designed to fit around students’ existing commitments, from short courses to day and evening study options. A part-time course could provide you with opportunities to improve your career prospects and earning potential, or even to develop an interest in a new career. Financial help

Remember – enrol early to secure your place You can enrol at Hull College, Queen’s Gardens.

If you are studying on a part-time course you may be eligible for help towards the cost of your course from the Learner Support Fund or the 24+ Advanced Learning Loans Bursary Fund. Application forms are available from Student Services at Queen’s Gardens or at the reception at The Learning Zone, Cannon Street or Park Street and help may be available with books, equipment and childcare. The funds are means tested and early application is advised.

Higher Education Students wishing to study a part-time Higher Education course can now apply online. Please visit www.hull-college.ac.uk and follow the instructions. Enrolment for these courses will also be completed online from August and registration will take place on the following days – Sat 5 Sep 10am-2pm, Mon 7 Sep 4pm-7pm & Tue 8 Sep 4pm-7pm. Student enquiries are welcome on these dates.

No Fees to Pay* You may not have to pay fees on funded Further Education courses if you fall into one of the following categories: You are between 19-23 years old studying up to and including a Level 2 qualification and have a maximum prior learning of a Level 1 You are between 19-23 years old studying a first full Level 2 qualification You are between 19-23 years old studying a first full Level 3 qualification You are between 19-23 years old studying a Level 4 (30 credits or more) and not attained a full Level 3 qualification You wish to study GCSE Maths/English and have not already achieved a Grade A-C in these subjects If you are aged 19+ studying up to and including a Level 2 course or aged 19-23 studying a Level 3 or 4 course and in receipt of a state benefit (the course you are enrolling on must be intended to help you obtain employment) *Subject to terms and conditions and residency


24+ Advanced Learning Loans

Study now, pay later A student loans system is available to help adults aged 24 and over pay for full and part-time courses at Level 3 and above. The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is offered in the same way as student loans for degree students, with low interest and reasonable repayment terms. Repayment will only start once you have finished the qualification and are earning more than £21,000. If you are undertaking an Access to Higher Education Diploma and then go to complete a full Higher Education (HE) qualification, the outstanding balance of your 24+ Advanced Learning Loan will be written off. To qualify for this write-off you must have fully completed both courses. The HE course does not have to relate to the Access to HE course you complete.

I previously took an evening class at Park Street and loved the facilities and the environment. I’m now in College three days per week and my employer has allowed me to work flexibly so I can fit it in alongside my job. The tutors are really friendly and push you to achieve your goals.

I was working in an office and realised I wanted to start my own business, so this course is perfect for me and is really preparing me for the future. I come to College in the evenings so it fits perfectly around my work and family commitments. I was working in a drawing office and really wanted to progress – eventually I’d like to become an architect. English, Maths & Science English and Maths skills are vital in today’s job market, as well as in everyday life. If you would like to gain a formal English or Maths qualification, or you just want to improve, we can help. We run friendly classes both at the College and in the community, with experienced tutors who will allow you to work at your own pace and encourage you to succeed. We also offer a range of courses aimed at improving students’ English language skills, including English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). These courses allow students to build their skills and confidence in the friendly environment of a small class. I was signposted to Hull College from the Hull sensory team as they were the only establishment that offered the facilities to teach me ways of communication and coping with IT now that I have been registered blind. I was able to learn at my own pace with great support both academically and socially. You’re not competing with anyone and are learning with people aged 20 to 70+. I don’t want to leave!

Motor Vehicle Our Mechanics and Vehicle repair workshops are all industry standard filled with modern and varied equipment. The Cannon Street site accommodates a range of studies and you can learn skills ranging from welding and paint spraying to working in mechanical bays. Elizabeth studies body repair and is planning a career as a panel beater. She makes the120-mile round trip from Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire, to Hull College every time she has a lesson and is renovating her own car as she learns.

I really enjoy coming to College and the body repair trade is one I definitely want to get into. I would not travel all that way, if I did not enjoy it - this course is my chosen vocation.

Higher Education Faculty of Arts When you choose to study a Higher Education course with the Faculty of Arts, you will have access to your own design or studio space depending on the specialism. HCUK Training Employment Services run a variety of different programmes aimed at helping a wide range of people. From those who are out of work receiving benefits and need help and support to find a job, to those who want to start an apprenticeship or simply continue learning, we have the facilities and skills to offer multiple avenues of support to our learners.
